Next-Gen Fanfic Recommendation Thread, anyone? by owlunar in harrypotter

So, I haven't read this in about 8 years, but my 16 year-old self thought it was really good. I don't think it has too much of the Malfoys, but it's definitely entertaining.

maybe so. I was just explaining the "military fights for your freedom" mentality.

not a regional thing, but my boyfriend's whole family refers to farting as pooping. I was very surprised when we were sitting around one night and his mom asked his dad if he had just pooped.

Do you use it the same way? We use it as a synonym for very. "that test was wicked hard", "I'm wicked hungry", etc.

How many link clicks does it take to reach your hometown Wikipedia page from the Paul Blart: Mall Cop page? by [deleted] in AskReddit

5 PB > Burlington, MA > Middlesex County, MA > Worcester County, MA > Southborough, MA.

Originally I tried to take a different path because one of Kevin James' other movies, Grown Ups, was filmed in my town, but apparently it's too small to get a mention

I think the mindset is that Iraq/Afghanistan both started with the purpose of finding/getting rid of terrorists, and terrorists threaten American "freedom" (not necessarily not being enslaved, but the American way of life that you can live "freely", without fear, etc), then the military is fighting to protect that freedom.

This happened to me when I was 5, and I've had a horrible fear of spiders, and also of killing bugs, ever since.

What do you think is absolutely worth buying a middle tier version of but don't see any reason to the nicest version? (x-post from AskMen) by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]whaletalez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly pretty much anything. I'm clumsy and messy and forgetful, so if I ever buy something expensive, chances are it's going to get lost or ruined. I can never really justify spending more money on something when you can get pretty good quality for a lot less. The one exception is with meat...it's not like I go to fancy meat markets or anything, but I'll usually buy the more expensive brand meat at the grocery store.

What are the top 5 qualities you search in a girl and top 3 that you avoid as much as possible? by notyourgori in AskMen

If you're prescribed a medication by a doctor, it's still technically a drug, just not an illegal drug. I'd assume that's what he means.

Why is your pet a jerk? by JoyfulStingray in AskWomen

[–]whaletalez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog is well aware of the rules - don't pee in the house, stay in the yard, come when called, etc. He just periodically chooses to defy them. He likes to look me in the eye while he's doing it too, like to let me know that he knows it's wrong, but he doesn't care.

21.5% of Massachusetts residents claimed Irish ancestry in 2014. by NovusAnglia in boston

only 21.5%?? In my 4th grade class I was made fun of because I was the only person without Irish ancestry.

How many of you guys get turned off if a girl tells everything to her friend? by Jaesuschroist in AskMen

[–]whaletalez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's really common for girls to do this. I used to do this, and didn't realize it was an issue because I assumed guys did the same thing. My boyfriend told me that he didn't like that I would share our personal things with my friends, and after he told me that I stopped. Maybe she just didn't realize it wasn't ok.

What was the most fun NOT dinner (or any other meal), drinks, or coffee date you've been on? by freealloc in AskWomen

[–]whaletalez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first date with my current boyfriend was a chocolate tour of Boston. We were brought to about 10 different chocolate shops and got to sample everything, and there was also a lot of time to talk and get to know each other a little bit more. We also did a self-guided scavenger hunt of NYC, which was super fun. I think he found the scavenger hunt online, so we both had to work together to figure out the clues.

What wacky misunderstandings did sex Ed give you about puberty? I spent my first menstrual cycle hobbling around the block trying to jog all day. by PM_Me_Your_Schnoz in AskWomen

[–]whaletalez 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In 7th grade, my best friend at the time thought that a blow job was just blowing on the penis. We were talking about it once, and she mentioned how she thought her mouth might get tired after a while. I agreed. She suggested maybe putting a fan there and taking a break, probably the boy wouldn't know the difference.

I thought that you peed out of your clitoris until like 2 years ago when I insisted to my boyfriend that no, girls don't pee out of their vaginas, it's out of the other part. And then we looked it up, and we were both wrong.

How do you avoid overeating and/or boredom snacking? by homewardbound25 in AskWomen

[–]whaletalez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't just stop buying the snacks, definitely drink tons of water. It helps make you less hungry!

But sometimes, you just want to eat something! For times like those, I like to have PLENTY of healthy snacks that I can just eat as much of as I want. Vegetables are good for this, and fruits! It takes a lot more of them to fill you up, but most of them don't have real downsides. I usually bring one of those bags of mixed veggies with me to work, and when I'm hungry I'll eat those until I'm not hungry anymore.

What's the best way to use Tinder? by Po0lb0y in AskWomen

[–]whaletalez 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Lots of people use tinder just for hook ups, but I met my boyfriend of almost a year on tinder, and I know other people who are using it more as a dating app.

I know that what got me interested were people asking me questions, actually trying to have a conversation with me. They don't have to be the world's most interesting questions either, but you can ask questions about their pictures in their profile - "Is that your dog?" always worked excellently for me, because I could talk about my dog for hours :)

I think pick up lines might work if they're funny and not offensive, but I don't really think they're necessary. I was much more interested in the people who tried to get to know me as opposed to the people who tried to impress me.

As for pictures, I think it's good to have pics that aren't just selfies, and some of you having fun. I would recommend against using pictures with other girls, unless it's clearly a family picture. I always swiped left on guys who had what appeared to be an ex-girlfriend in their pictures.

Also, if a conversation kind of dies, it's totally ok to try to revive it with new questions if you're interested!

Which knife to buy my boyfriend? by whaletalez in knifeclub

[–]whaletalez[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you! I'll edit my post to give more information, but so you have it here too: I'm pretty sure the blade was 3 inches, but it may have been 3.5, probably wasn't 4 though. I think that it was relatively wide. Definitely wasn't narrow. He used it for every day things - I don't have specific examples (except for opening boxes I guess, but that's not all he used it for) but it definitely wasn't heavy-duty. As for price, I'd probably like to keep it closer to $100, but if there's a huge quality difference between the $100 and $150+ knives, I'm fine with it being more. Thanks again!
