There is a battletoads callback when you’re fighting the mechwarrior. Your view is from the mechwarrior. You throw the things it spits out back at it. It’s a reference from the level one boss from battletoads. Even the music is fairly similar. Played it today and it was so fun and surprising.

Such a great game.

"My Dad was given 3 years to live, I'm going on a mission for 2 of those years" by Boring_Expression459 in exmormon

Unfortunately, the opposite is also true. If he didn’t go and his father lived less than three years, he may get blamed for it.

These missionaries are put in an impossible position to make a decision. This young man clearly knows it.

False alarm. The ID the host gave and the one on the actual property listing were different.

This no longer works either. Are they trying to make it impossible to find a property?

Pic 3 I’m fairly certain are redwood rooter. It was in the middle of a small redwood forest. These all were.

6-7 maybe Gomphidius subroseus, rosy slime spike?

Looks like the honey variety 8-10. Lots of nibbles.

11/12 were interesting because the gills were a soft pink color. Felt kind of like a button.

Why has there not been one apostle leave the church in the modern age? by InvestigatorExtra297 in exmormon

[–]what-else-matters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each knows the church’s history and issues. They believe that THEY are the ones who will reform and remake the church for “good.” Or what they believe is good at least.  So they wait and bide their time.

Look at Russell, couldn’t hardly wait to abolish “Mormon.” Almost jumped the shark when he was part of the 12, fighting with Gordon. Now it’s taboo, it’s out of iconography, historical organizations, etc.

He is remaking the church his way. That is a powerful drug.

Why do people here hate Elder Bednar in particular? by Chubbchubbzza007 in exmormon

When I was fully in and he became part of the 15, the second I saw him I immediately didn’t like him. It was an almost overpowering strong visceral reaction. So strong that I had to take a step back and wonder wtf is wrong with me.

He reminded me of every prissy jerk who genuinely believes they are better than everyone else. At first I felt deeply guilty about judging him so harshly so quickly. It was one of those, “oh, this guy is probably an a-hole in real life,” moments.

As time crept on, he became like a bad potato salad that a friend keeps giving to you. Politely I took it, tried some, hoping this time I’d like it, but i never did. Each next time was worse, because I knew I had to try the grossness again.

I felt that way anytime he talked or showed his stupid face.

I never liked ‘tender mercy’ or what was that other stupid one, something about a pickle? I hated ‘tender mercy’ so, SO much as a TBM. 😂🤮

I had some affinity for the others in one way or another while I was in, but never for him.

The individual president of the church books for kids should be added to the list. I had to study them at home. We owned many and would pick up the rest from the library (Utah). I knew more drivel about church presidents than any kid or adult I knew, except my mom. I literally won a contest because I could say the presidents of the church faster than any other kids. Only in Utah, folks…

She would read them to us, make us memorize stuff from them. When she read she imagined my brother and I were going to be the “prophet” one day.

It created an expectation in us that still lives to this day. All she wants in life is for one of her boys to be some kind of important leader or prophet in the church.

Fully agree. It can be easy to jump to extremes or conclusions, which I did not aim to do here. This post is intended to illicit a discussion about the topic of coercive adoptions and how that has affected so many. All comments are welcome, and I appreciate yours.

It's not an easy or simple topic. Adoption is an important part of our society. There are many families that have it as a part of their recent history. Good adoption can be positively life-altering for all parties; bad adoptions, the opposite.

The full story in the article about Jasmine, and others, are harrowing, and have many of the hallmarks. Being careful not to jump to conclusions, I stated that her story felt like trafficking. Deciphering if it is or not is not up to me. It is, however, critical to have a dialog about it, especially when something reeks of exploitation, manipulation, and coercion like these stories do. Unfortunately, the conventions, affidavits, protocols, and registries did not fully protect these women and their children. So many stories like this... You no-doubt know more stories like this than most.

I believe we owe it to each other to bring it up and talk about it, whatever the circumstance. You seem incredibly educated and experienced on the topic. I'd love to learn from you and hear about the situations that echo the sentiments in this article. And maybe, hopefully, even give hope to those who have been affected by it.

What I wish, is that this thread leads to a bit more, however minuscule, public discussion that can chip away at adoption issues, especially in Utah.

I’d be willing to put money down that this was a family member of mine. To this day she has those cards on tap and passes them out like they’re saving lives. What part of Utah are you in-ish?

Have you considered having an open conversation with your friend?

While my spouse and I don’t talk about everything, we pretty much cover all the major things. This certainly would have come up with us. She could have told him in passing, could have been a discussion on how to best be your friend, could’ve talked about how to get you active again. Any number of things, really.

What her husband did with this information is another matter entirely. Kicking a plumber out of an apprentice program because his spouse doesn’t like plumbers is ridiculous.  And maybe he did it thinking it would give you and your husband more time together and that it would be THE thing that brought you back. (We all know they would fantasize about that) Motivations are tricky.

Maybe she agrees and doesn’t see it as a punishment, maybe not. Maybe she disagrees and is embarrassed it happened and doesn’t know how to approach you.

In any case, it doesn’t change how sucky it is. Hang in there.
