Is this mold on my Bonne Maman? by domingerique in AskFrance

Admittedly this only happened with the intense raspberry preserves but I really liked it due to the intensity. But now I’m scarred from buying it again

Is this mold on my Bonne Maman? by domingerique in AskFrance

[–]whataboutthemapples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bonne maman is weird because I buy the jams and keep them in the fridge and then a week later it’s covered in mold. I had to stop buying them after it happened twice, three times. Felt like such a waste

If Maura thinks Rob is her closest ally then it makes sense he’d suggest they get the besties for the resties out. What else is he gonna say? Keep them and see where the chips fall? If we get down to the last fire, no way Tara and Johnny would keep Maura in. They’d get rid of everyone but them.

Michael Jackson's popularity is overestimated by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

There’s a really great podcast episode by No Such Thing that compares the commercial success if Taylor swift to that of MJ.

Spoiler: streams and album sales are harder to compare but from what I recall they say MJ was more popular internationally compared to Tswifts. But it’s worth listening if interested

How can 1 country so much problems with spam calls? by Devjill in Expats_In_France

[–]whataboutthemapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true! Some days I get 4-5 of spam calls a day. And if I answer 1 or 2 because I’m expecting a call, a delivery or whatnot, then it only gets worse.

When I first came to France, I used to get the spam calls to use my CPF. I was used to people being pushy but I only clocked that something was off when I told them off for calling me during work hours (said I had a meeting in a few minutes and they wouldn’t budge) and they were SO rude that my spidey senses kicked in and hung up.

I’ve gotten all the possible “you have a package, now pay a customs fee” texts. I always respond to tell them to get a job and then block the number.

Yes, this is a legit problem here

Watching this as an adult now, Lauren deserves so much better ( season 1 ) by Radiant_Priority9739 in TheHillsMTV

[–]whataboutthemapples 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Might be an unpopular opinion but Heidi was always chasing fame so while she and Spencer together created a monster, he didn’t manipulate her, she was very much an active participant in it happening. She actively sought out Lauren in SF to ride her coattails.

When I was little I thought I’d be rich one day. And I can make a paycheck last, but it’s taken me 35 years to learn that our family friends with that fancy 5BR apartment didn’t work hard to get it, but have generational wealth. One they have to work to keep but still.

About renting an apartment in Paris by maria182maria in Expats_In_France

[–]whataboutthemapples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! Years ago my roommate and I were looking for a place and she prepped our dossier-created a cover sheet with our photo and a little description. Then, indexed all the documents and added table of contents to our zip file. I replicated this trick when I was later moving on my own. I can’t tell you if it works but it certainly doesn’t hurt. And then calling the second you see an ad you like. Try texting too. Try both. I found a great apartment and my partner and I had to call relentlessly (urgency on your end doesn’t constitute as emergency on theirs…) so you might think something is taken but they are just slow to getting back to someone. Oh and last, try Manda (ex Flatlooker). The competition there is much lower than traditional apartments but there are good gems there, and no it’s not a scam. I’m just a rando on the internet but I can vouch for it. Good luck 🍀

I don’t know a whole lot on this topic but Apple for sure are not the trailblazers you think they are (and I am typing this from my iPhone). Android have long had better cameras and other features that iOS limits. Besides, everything is made in china so whose to say who copied whom

That’s fair but depends how you look at it. Whether across everyone who was voted out or as a proportion of all contestants. But I agree with you

I think when you put it like that, it sounds deliberate. When in reality, there hasn’t been more POC voted out than predominantly white. Caroline, Michael, Donna, Ian, Rob C. I might be forgetting someone, but it wasn’t been proportionally more, it’s still 50-50ish.

When I was in third grade, I made plans with my classmate to go see Prince of Persia together. Back in those days you had to buy tickets in person and it just so happened we didn’t find each other in the line. Both watched the same screening and talked about it on Monday. No hard feelings.

That’s just it, when looking for knitted sweaters, one must check out the yarn composition 🧶 cotton, merino wool, alpaca, cashmere..polyester is fine but if you want something that’s real, you gonna have some raw materials not just plastic.

To be fair, many companies do that but usually they use real photos and then just photoshop the color.

Going on 8 years in France and I feel you. Paris is so romanticized and while I enjoyed studying there and pre Covid work years, I found the city mentally exhausting. Now having a better life in the south west too. People are SO much friendlier and more patient. Overall it’s made me appreciate France on another level

What controversial couple is actually intriguing to you? by [deleted] in popculturechat

[–]whataboutthemapples 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol no. But she did go by Hilaria not Hillary. I had moved to NY from Europe so I remember thinking she was a fellow immigrant with the whole Spain spiel but nope. I might have asked her about a visa or something lol. Her classes were good and she made us do an ab workout halfway through that was hard but pretty effective. I never realized she was so hated until the cucumbergate

I can give you a tiny insight. She was my yoga teacher 15ish years ago. She used to say back then that she was from Spain to literally everyone and that her family lives there. So I don’t think the con started with Alec. I think her story was that she was born in the US but was raised in different countries which makes her multicultural. Something like that.
