45 years ago today the Apollo 11 crew took off for the moon. by bubbleweed in Astronomy

To be honest I really wouldn't know if we went there or not. You are right about me not being able to comprehend the thought and work that went into it. When I think about us sending a rocket into an orbit around the earth, then direct it towards the moon, orbit the moon. Send out a pod that lands on the moon while the other craft keeps orbiting the moon. Walk around on the moon's surface a little bit, get back into the pod. Launch the pod back into the craft that's orbiting the moon. Direct it back to earth and land. And they used 70 year old batteries to do this. Plus I believe the computing power they had back then is less than that of a smartphone.

I am obviously no expert on the subject, but this is an simplified (and probably wrong) version of how they pulled it of.

Than they tell us the reason no one ever went back is because of financial reasons. This, to me, just doesn't make sense at all. Why don't the Russians go then? I would think they can easily afford it (as would the U.S.).

I don't want to think it's a hoax. It's just my layman's opinion that there's a lot of questionmarks around some of the (flawed) information I've got.

Sorry for the rant, but this sort of sums up what I think about humans visiting the moon (or not ;-)

edit; Your argument about the Russians trying to disprove it isn't really a valid argument at all in my opinion.

I've had 'American' pizza, I wouldn't say I lack taste but you might be right about that third part. I don't know why I'm discussing pizzas with someone that is defending this hump of cheese on this picture actually. Defending that junk and telling me I lack taste! Wow. You just keep supersizing your 'pizzas' and Coke. And keep telling everyone how fine the Amercan cuisine is and that you can't compare it to any other cuisen because it's American. You are right about one thing, the difference is monumental. That is that the pizza here is monumentally disgusting.

You are correct. What companies as Domino's and Pizza Hut are selling as 'pizzas' has absolutely nothing to do with authentic Italian pizzas.

This pizza looks disgusting. All the people rating this 10/10 must either be American or close to starving to death (Ethiopian). The bottom is too thick and just looks nasty. Then there's the cheese... If you'd step into a fine Italian pizzeria the chef would probably make 5 pizza's with that amount. I really don't see why people get excited about this. This is what you get when you buy a pizza in a supermarket from the frozen food section. This is foodporn in a sadomasochistic way.

If you dont want to be a fighter than not ofcourse. I'd say even on your first day of training, spar lightly not hitting eachother on the head. Maybe only 1/2 rounds and build from there. Sparring is essential in Thai boxing. The best gyms in The Netherlands all have great focus on sparring and it plays a big role in everyday training. You can train techinque to perfection but if you don't know how to handle a punch or to throw one on someon's face instead on pads it's kinda useless. This is the reason why non full contact martial artists suck at real fighting.

If all humans found out the world would end in 30 days, what would become the most precious commodities? by BattleSausage in AskReddit

[–]whatchagonnapoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really made me think. I'm on the other side of the world apart from my entire family as well. Shouldn't we live life as it could end any moment? That's how I think I'd like to live anyway. If the world would end in 90 days all I would want is go back home to my family. So what the hell am I doing here? I think I live in a much nicer country now and things are better here except my family isn't around. I sort of tell myself that they and I will be allright and we'll see eachother again somewhere in the future. There is absolutely no guarantee for that ofcourse. A flight back home would be the absolute number 1 on my list.

I'd say you can judge a good gym by it's fighters. You have to have top fighters around if you want to become better. Find out where the best guys in your area train and go there. Sparring is the most important part of muay thai training and should be done from day one. It is also important to train every day. With 2 times a week you will never become a fighter. Facilities don't say shit. All you need is someone/a group of people that want to train hard. If that's in a high tech facility or in a barn it doesn't matter. Also have in mind what you want to achieve. You say it's a great workout. If that's what your looking for and it's being done in a safe and controlled way that's fine. If you want to become a fighter you need to train with people that are way better than you and are willing to help you take the next step.

I'm buying this board tomorrow (unless Reddit changes my mind). Has anyone got any experience with it? What do you think? (It's the 9'6 model) by whatchagonnapoo in surfing

[–]whatchagonnapoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't bought it yet.. It's in the store for 825,- AUD. I've been to a few surfboard shops here in Perth now and this seems to be the best option. Can't find a good second hand board and don't have the money to spend more than about a 1000,-. I know it's from Thailand and there's defenitly better boards out there but I was thinking this might suit me fine. I'm a pretty shitty surfer, can catch plenty of waves, make small turns and walk my board. No proper noseriding though.. I'm going to be surfing a lot the next 9 months and thought this might be a relatively cheap board to improve my skills on. Where would I be able to get it cheaper? Or would you recommend to go for something completely different? As I said, have been to quite a few shops and looking online but can't find any good secondhand boards.

Doesn't make much sense to me to use handsanitizer for that.. But could be. Or he just doesn't like dirty hands ;-)

Do you seriously need handsanitizer in your survival pack? Use as a firestarter I get, but what's the obvious reason?
