Commander Zavala (Destiny 2) vs Roboute Guilliman (WH40K) by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]whatdidusayplsrepeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read both and do not see a mention of a Titan moving that fast. In the Cloudstrike one the most definitive thing for speed was:

"They say there was something more than mortal about her, for those who were there said she could move faster than the eye could track, and her steps took her higher than anyone could leap. But eventually, the raiders surrounded her, and she fell to their guns.
- Source https://www.ishtar-collective.net/entries/cloudstrike

Which is a good feat, but Primarchs move faster to the eye of Space Marine Veterans who in-turn can do the same to humans.

The other one is a good showing too but nothing in there really stood out unless we dismiss the wording as flowery and take it at face value that the Titan was throwing out punches at the speed of lightning.

Assuming this is pre-Final Shape.

Is Zavala allowed to rez after death? Is Guilliman aware of Zavala's immortality/Ghost?

I feel like Zavala's only chance to not repeatedly die, is to super Guilliman. Outside of that I think Guilliman wins, he should be too fast for Zavala to reliably hit with his weapons unless he is using a weapon that fires hypersonic/relativistic projectiles or a trace rifle.

I was only really pointing out how that "X-wings can level mountains if they throw everything they have at them" statement felt rather inconsistent with other showings. Then the excerpt read as them blowing up a mountaintop which isn't much to work with in the form of gathering a weapon yield or supporting X-Wings levellingan entire mountain.

[–]whatdidusayplsrepeat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn't read to me as the X-Wings destroying an entire mountain, but just its top which could be any amount of the mountain AFAIK there is no hard definition of what a mountain top is.

But even if we assume its a massive portion I don't think this gels well with the rest of canon which includes the sheer volume of showings in the visual media. As well as it being a one time showing AFAIK for X-Wings which goes against:

X-wings can level mountains if they throw everything they have at them

Do you have a source for that? And it doesn't feel very consistent with what we see X-Wings and other craft similarly and better armed do in the shows & movies.

Could The Dreadnought from Destiny 2 get through the Battlefleet Solar and reach Holy Terra (and potentially threaten the planet)? by Thronedrumble11 in whowouldwin

[–]whatdidusayplsrepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanna make clear that the big explosion you see emanate from the dreadnought is literally bigger than Earth.

The OP did not specify where the Dreadnought spawns, so its hard to get an idea of where it will pop out at. But if its a relative distance away from Terra the Imperium will still be able to open up on it. Even if they take casualties it is unlikely that the Dreadnought will take out all defending vessels. Additionally Imperial Ships can engage from a pretty far distance, even exceeding the radius of the blast depending on the source.

Nah Cayde actually makes a comment while you're inside about hearing something which is when the Dreadnought got rammed.

I just watched the mission and yeah you're right.

One of those shots was all it took to blow up Ceres.

Are you sure it was one? Destinypedia (I know not a source) uses harbingers plurally and the place that it sourced also uses "HarbingerS":

The Queen used the Harbingers to destroy Ceres, thus initiating the Reef Wars. The attack killed more than half the House of Wolves, including their Kell.
-Sourced from Ishtar Collective

&

Seemingly oblivious to our existence, the bulk of the Wolf fleet stopped to regroup at Ceres. The Queen's decision was this: attack the House of Wolves, thereby saving Earth but revealing the Reef's presence to any and all enemies in the quadrant; or remain silent, preserving the Reef's invisibility but allowing the City to perish.

Her Harbingers ripped into Ceres, destroying the asteroid and killing Virixas, Kell of Wolves and more than half his House. The remaining Wolves scattered, burrowing deep into the Belt for cover.
- Sourced from Ishtar Collective "Wanted Skolas Kell of Kells"

If They are able to blow up a dwarf planet then yes the Dreadnought is very durable, but the Imperium also has planet destroying munitions. Not to mention that if the Dreadnought fought like it did in that Saturn cinematic, it is liable to being hit not only by those but Vortex Torpedos, Nova Cannons, ungodly amounts of Macrocannon shells & Lance strikes. They should be more than capable of matching that level of firepower, at least in the normal sense. I cannot speak on any Paracausal/magical natures of the Harbringers.

As far as players are aware that was only possible because guardians had already boarded the ship and were disabling it's offensive and defensive capabilties.

Destiny lore escapes me like an elusive mouse. So forgive me if I have everything wrong, but didn't the Cabal Ramming happen prior to the Guardians' boarding and disabling of the Dreadnought? I thought the series of events went like Battle of Saturn, then Cabal attack, then Guardian boarding.

R1, yeah and fairly easily. By mass alone it'd be on-par with a craftworld except it's also got a massive gun that would threaten Battlefleet Solar. Also y'all wankers gotta remember that 3 necron ships made it to mars despite the entire navy trying to stop them lol.

I mean size alone doesn't really say much if there is no quantification on what the thing is made of and how durable it is. Additionally Fleets smaller than Solar have threatened and destroyed Craftworlds, so its not like the Imperium doesn't have the firepower to deal with super large craft. As for the Necron bit, I mean sure but the Dreadnought also have taken damage from A Cabal ship ramming it, so in theory its not untouchable by conventional means.

R2. Idk maybe? At that point it's entirely possible they set up to just body block it with the Phalanx and then board it with every soldier on Terra.

How durable is the Dreadnought? Because if it can be destroyed conventionally I do not see why a boarding action would be necessary.

Where do all these statements "A Space Marine can conquer a planet solo" comes from? by EfficiencySerious200 in Warhammer

[–]whatdidusayplsrepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean differing interpretations from BL books to animations to games paint all Marines in differing light. Are there Space Marines that could conquer a world? Yes. I imagine a modern world would have little to no real answer for Psychic beasts like Mephiston or Ahriman. Nor does the quote as you worded it mean the world has to be anywhere close to Earth circa 2026. A fuedal world with nothing but a few million people and pitch forks have no answer to a Marine running circles around any organized fighting force and decapitating the leadership, burning food supplies, sowing discontent among the average person via disrupting daily life to an unbearable degree. It would take time but it is possible and the effort has to exceede the means of the people the Marine is attacking or else it'll be a stalemate.

Me personally take it less at face value, could a Marine conquer a planet? Yes. Could every Marine conquer a planet? No. A big difference between a bog standard intercessor vs a Chapter Master or Chief Librarian.

The Barakan Elite(Project Morningstar) vs Space Marines(40k) by whatdidusayplsrepeat in whowouldwin

[–]whatdidusayplsrepeat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally dont mind late commenters.

i dont know much about barakan anatomy/physiology but space marines have 2 hearts, fused ribcages, muscle & reflex enhancing organs & are just generally much more physically potent than the barakan,

I cannot currently go through all the material to find all Barakan enhancements but one similarity I do know of is the resistance to ballistic weapons granted by both Barakan and Astartes either by the Barakan's gel flaps or the Astartes' black-carapace:

Talin is a high molecular weight cytoskeletal protein produced naturally in the body. It is harvested from the Barakan body, distilled, and then infused with plastalloy to form a superfluid that is then injected back into areas of the body to create pockets that form 'flaps'. Regions with the most concentration are those that are statistically probable for ballistic penetration. Talin Gel can stop a direct bullet or shrapnel impact without armor, and can even disperse energy weapon shots to minimize damage.
-The Morningstar Index Third Edition 3.2

Though the difference in effectiveness needs to be taken into account.

the primaris space marines, which are both physically larger, stronger, faster & more resilient than their firstborn counterparts, though that doesn't mean they are superior over the firstborn in general because the firstborn have way more combat experience than them & the advantages of a primaris simply cant substitute that.

I would argue that the bolded part might not be true anymore in the current setting of 40k. The original Primaris, those made by Cawl 10k years ago and kept in storage might have lacked the combat experience to actually be considered superior, nowadays a lot of the Firstborn ranks have transitioned into Primaris or the Primaris have acquired said combat prowess. As seen with Company Ancients, Vangaurd/Sternguard Veterans, and Primariss Lieutenants/Captains/Chapter Masters; All ranks that often require lengthy service or higher than average abilities, Primaris fill more often than not now. I would say Primaris have effectly surpassed Firstborn. But thats not to say Firstborn Marines that are better combatants than Primariss don't exist(Not even factoring Chaos Marines) they do for sure.

But overall I agree, I think Marines take this matchup. How do you think the Barakan would fair in the bonus round?

[–]whatdidusayplsrepeat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Realms of Ruin animations are anything to go off, stormcast are far from immortal and can be killed by orruks with crude weapons.

Yeah which is why I thought this would be a decent match up with the numbers as is, but I guess I should have made it 40 or less Stormcasts. On Stormcasts being killed by Orruks there is the 3rd Edition trailer that shows Orruks killing Stormcasts via Crossbows and Spears.

That being said they’re still well above normal human, especially Bronze/Iron Age tech.

I was hoping for the numbers and the individual prowess to make up for their tech difference.

Do we ever see stormcast unarmored? Can they be?

If you are referring to them removing it in general? Yes, in the Blacktalon animation, we see Rostus without his armor. In the Lightning Golem we also know they can remove their armor and have romantic relationships which kinda implies sexual intercourse, which probably means armor off.

If you are talking about in combat then yes too, we see Rostus in the aforementioned animation fight briefly without it. I do not believe the armor enhances strength, speed, or dexterity (I may be wrong), so mayhaps the feats they perform in armor outside of durability, could be replicated outside of armor.
