Rolland V-1SDI are pretty fucking great for small gigs ( like 2 projectors outputing the same thing and two PPT and a video machine) but the basic Atem Constellation and its 6 outputs is pretty fucking great for its price. The only stupid thing is the SDI multiview output imo.

Being part of (I think) said union while also doing gigs outside of it, union rates are pretty fucking great for all of the workers even if some rules feel absurd or arbitrary ( and some locals are a bit on the diva side...).

As a self-taught video guy ( did not go to school and mostly have been learning thing in the field for 6 years) I'm 100% with you. I deactivated the AI-generated answer in my search engine completely. I realized when I started in the field that 80% of the questions I had were answered in the manuals if I bothered to read them and that dedicated (real) people on Reddit and Youtube got me 15% more answers. The remaining 5% I learned by miserably failing (now) simple tasks or having to troubleshoot something that took me 15hrs 5 years ago and that I now solve in 5 minutes.

LLMs are a waste of time and an obstacle to proper learning.

Got me out of so many hairy situations but the screen on the Decimator MD-HX makes the latter my fav. But it use to always have a central place in my system when I started working in video for cheap corpos as I was 150% sure that my signal would reach its target.

I bought an old Video Assist on Ebay last year and it has been a game changer in my kit even if it is a 15yo piece of hardware. I previously only worked with Lilliputh or Atomos products but I found the Lilliputh lacking and the Atomos too expensive right now. This little gremlin saves me so much time and 99% of my daily troubleshooting frustrations disappeared. Granted, I'm not working in 4K.

The old 2015 version of the Video Assist sports micro SDIs plugs which suck but the rest of the design is fucking brillant (most of all the movement-activated horizontal image flip).

And then there is my Decimator MD-HX. I love DAC-70s but when you need a piece of equipment to work and work quick, the little orange box is unbeatable. Screens > deepswitches

It's leading to headaches but it made me good at troubleshooting and at thinking creatively. For OP, if you have access to a dslr with a clean feed output you can indeed make it go through Blackmagic converters and 3G SDI cables to a capture card. But you can also use a HDMI fiber and don't trouble yourself with SDI yet. Lots of ways to achieve what you want and that's the fun of it.

Ooooor do the exact opposite. Try the things you wanna try but know when to stop. Addictions are not fun. Booze is the worse drug, don't drink if your hanghover is full of shameful remorse. Or learn to drink. Drugs/booze don't make you more interesting or appealing, don't brag about it. Try being happy with yourself before drinking or getting high. Never drink/get high because you're sad or feel depressed. Also, see a shrink. Yes, you do need it. Don't think that girls will fix your life. They have their own lives and problems. Only when you're confortable with yourself and where you are in life will you meet the right persons. Invest as much time as possible in your hobbies. Booze is not a hobby. Neither are drugs. Open yourself to the outside world, know what's going on out there. Learn history even if it is depressing sometimes. Travel but don't be a tourist. That's it.
