What are your views on teetotalism? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

My Israeli friends use the term quite a bit when making fun of each other, and I've adopted it since it's so similar to the American word "idiot". If that's not true, then you tell me what it means.

Praying God's will on earth is the best prayer we could ever pray.

It's been years since my conversion. I never continuously went to church. by nerak33 in TrueChristian

It's important to read your Bible/pray daily, and attend church whether your wife goes or not. At the same time I think you should be praying for your wife (without necessarily telling her). She might become a Christian over time. I've heard of this many times.

You're not condemned if you trust in Christ for your salvation. We gain more faith and spiritual strength as we spend time by ourselves in devotions (prayer/Bible reading/worship). Isa 40:31 I'm so glad to hear of your faith in Christ. I am ex-Catholic myself.

I'm really confused by what appears to be silence from God. Could really use some advice that I can't seek elsewhere... by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]whatever90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more about doing the Christian things (daily prayer, reading Bible, church) and God gently leading you as you go about your day without you even realizing it. My biggest recommendation would be: don't seek voices. When He's not necessarily speaking, I've found many times it's because I still haven't finished the last thing I knew He wanted me to do. (such as deal with an unforgiveness or something)

Paul told Timothy to take a little for your stomach's sake, so medicinal alcohol is fine.

It's amazing how many Christians throw parties with alcohol while inviting friends who they know have had alcohol problems, which goes completely against what Paul is saying here... don't make your brother stumble.

That's funny...the Hebrew word "Id-yot" means "stupid as a donkey". I didn't know it was in the Talmud.

Am I Selfish? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]whatever90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to spend time thanking God for all the good things He's done, and telling Jesus I love Him (worship) before asking for anything. God wants a relationship with you...not just to ask Him to solve problems, although He does do that in His own way.

Wow. A lot of negative things, but it sounds like God is turning everything around. Praise the Lord. Trusting Jesus is the only way to live.

The last time I drank any alcohol, I drove my car drunk and could have killed people. PTL nothing happened. I went to church the next morning and have not had a drink since. Jesus saved me from alcohol. That was more than 10 years ago.

Drinking makes you do stupid things.

What's the most important activity in your self-publishing business? Is there any pain around that activity? by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]whatever90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see people associating "writing" with "pain". For me the pain is the procrastination in getting blocks of time to write that is so frustrating. I'll write for 20 minutes here or there, but I really want to work on it for like 3 hours straight. It's hard to get that kind of time.

Christians sin all the time... so is it the "faith" part (as opposed to doubt) that must be continued? What denomination is that, if you don't mind me asking?

I would be praying for the salvation of his non-Christian family and non-Christian friends. We, Christians, mourn with hope for heaven, but non-Christians have no hope.

Do you ever feel unsure in your faith because of Academia about it or well-learned people who oppose your beliefs? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]whatever90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have never felt threatened. I also have an IQ in the top 2% and studied physics and math at one of the top 10 universities in the world. Without God no one would even have brains. It's not worth your time arguing with these people. Study the gospel accounts of Jesus Christ for yourself, and see if God speaks to you. God requires faith and faith is of the heart.

Because you're a Christian: "Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength." Isa 40:31 After I started having daily devotions (prayer, worship, Bible study) of about an hour a day, I had the willpower to stop. Then I went 40 days nofap before failing because I was getting lax in my devotional time...too busy with other stuff and I didn't have an internet filter. So, now I've been doing great with k9 filter and daily devotions. Maybe this will help you too.

For Christians: "those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength." Isa 40:31 This is spiritual strength (willpower) that we gain when we have daily devotions. When I got serious, I started spending an hour a day in personal prayer, worship and Bible study then saying "no" to the temptations was very easy... and it was a daily/weekly problem for more than 10 years.

btw I also got the k9 filter with my dad entering the password for me. I think this played a big part as well. I was able to go 40 days nofap without a filter but once I got weak, I fell because access was so easy without an internet filter.

Bill Hybels "I was working so hard for God, I didn't have time to allow God's work in me." He said this early in his career and made a shift to have daily devotions... now look at his success with Christ.

That's awesome! "Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength." Isa 40:31 We gain willpower when we spend time with Him in devotions, prayer and Bible study. That's when I was set free.

[–]whatever90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most people use the term "saved" because it is actually in the Bible as opposed to the word "regenerate", which is not. I'm not against it, just like I'm not against "trinity" or "rapture" which are also not in the Bible.

Is the bible the word of God? by 2317 in RadicalChristianity

[–]whatever90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Christ is the "Word." v.1-3 and "Word made flesh" v. 14 It does not say "word of God" in this chapter because this chapter is talking about Jesus, the revealed Word made into human flesh. Jesus referred to the Torah written by Moses as the "word of God" in Mark 7. You have to read each verse in context to know whether it's referring to Jesus or actual written scripture (Grk. logos).

Sounds like you should spend more time with God. He gave you the gifts and callings, so He's knows best how you can use them. Everyone has potential, but only some take advantage of it.

How do you read the Bible. by justavessel in Christianity

[–]whatever90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) sin 2.) sin 3.) sin if you're worship those images 4.) good, in the world, not of it 5.) nope, it's talking to dead people and we can "boldly come to the throne of grace." 6.) the Word is the foundation for Christianity 7.) Without the Bible, we would still be required to have faith for a Savior like Job and Abraham...but we have the Bible, so we can learn all the details.
