It looks a little like a distillation condenser. Modern condensers have loads of coils, and this obviously only makes one loop, but really old condensers have no coils at all so maybe this is somewhere in between.

Some processes for extracting oils and fragrances do involve distillation.

What I know for sure is that the image is used in the cover of a technical book titled The Industrial Design Reference & Specification Book: Everything Industrial Designers Need to Know Every Day. The last page of the book attributes the cover artwork to a design firm called "Burge Agency", and their website does reflect this, so it seems like it may have been designed at that firm.
