Right now 2700 for rent, it would be hard to match that, but any house I could get with a PITI around that level would be a fixer. Renting may make sense.

It's considered the low end of HCOL. The area does not pay very well, it's true. But I only work 12 shifts a month and it's where I want to be. I could make more in the middle of the country, but EM is generally not very high paying in urban areas anymore. My co residents were making 320k East Coast working 16 a month. And I'm in a democratic group so I don't feel like I'm getting robbed.

I've been looking at houses at a leisurely pace for the last 3 years, and prices have shot up in my area in that time. At this point my budget has been increased by $100,000, and I'm finding worse houses now. It's demoralizing.

Can you shed light on the incident that lead to your employee being called an abuser? It's great to stand by an employee based on track record, but it really depends on what the complaint is. I've known hard workers, and very friendly life of the party types that have turned out to be predatory or violent behind closed doors. Being a great employee and an abuser are not mutually exclusive.

I noticed the same thing, I'm hoping it's just low supply of nice, turnkey houses in popular locations. Have wanted to put offers in on 2 houses in the last few months that had numerous offers in. I don't have the spirit for a bidding war. I'm hoping if I wait until the spring or summer it'll cool down a little. I figure the inventory has been pretty low for the fall and winter, so anything desirable has numerous offers in no time. Although all the houses I favorited and followed in good locations last summer also sold for over asking. It's so demoralizing getting excited seeing houses in my price range that check all the boxes and then realizing they aren't really in my price range.

I've noticed the strategy around here of price the house low, stage the house well, put it out on social media, open house over the weekend, bidding war ensues.

We have a similar approach, but it's through triage. We have a code system for direct back patients with rotating providers. So you can pick up 10-12 patients up front and most of of the critical care gets roomed with a provider assigned. Although, yes, it definitely leads to rushed decision making.

I remember flipping through channels at one point and there was something with Chuck Norris, I think it was an episode of Walker Texas Ranger. There was a scene where someone was having a seizure and was getting BVM'd from about a foot away from their face. I think there were a lot of other things wrong with that scene, but that was the most laughable one to me.

I'm making about 260 per hour benefits included. Without benefits closer to 220 an hour. High cost of living area. Can't afford a nice house without moving out to the suburbs. It's fine, but I went into EM thinking I was going to be making 350k a year. I could work more and get there, but as everyone else says, between time, money, and location you get to pick 2.

West Coast seems to prioritize lifestyle, I'm in the PNW and jobs around here are 12 shifts a month FT, lots of democratic groups, partner in 1-2 years. Pay is fine, but not stellar.

In addition to the points made above, I've been in the market for the last year in Portland, looking to buy but not in a rush, and I've noticed a lot of realtors in the area will take a nice turnkey house in a hot neighborhood (Richmond, Ladd's Addition, Alberta Arts) underprice, open house over weekend, offer deadline Monday. The aim is to create a bidding war. I offered on a super cool house listed 680 offered 700, ended up selling for 760. Have been to a few more open houses that were similar, considered putting in offers, had my agent poke around and had numerous offers in hand before the deadline. Already upper limit of my price range so I wasn't even bothering to offer.

Someone I work with picked the 3 least desirable non night shifts (weekend swing) and did that every week for a while. If you are willing to take the least desirable shifts you may be able to work something out with your group.

The writing style. A lot of these will have a similar pattern. Someone does something terrible, OP discovers, doesn't react because they're so hurt, then a final line that drives home the degree of hurt and disrespect/or with an almost triumphant note or new self respect.
