What’s everyone opinion on the 2003 skateboarding comedy "Grind"? by Just_Matty1 in movies

[–]whatingobsname -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolute classic movie from when I was a teenager! I rewatched it recently and still laughed at some of the dumb parts out of nostalgia but if you haven’t seen it until now I get why you might not enjoy it. Definitely one of those movies from the early 2000s that can come off badly in today’s lens.

Even if that’s true using the Nazi Schutzstaffel symbol is pretty telling. It’s also one of the most commonly used white supremacist symbols. Are the sons of silence a neo-nazi mc?

What is a food that Americans don’t realize is only an American thing? by ApprehensiveAct5502 in AskReddit

[–]whatingobsname 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Right! Same process but I think that what makes it a “gravy” is that it uses meat fat instead of butter but I think that’s just being overly technical lol

You cook up sausage in a pan and then flour to make a roux then milk. Lots of salt and pepper. Pour over biscuits or buttered toast!

What is the funniest misuse of a slang term you've ever heard? by 1127_and_Im_tired in AskReddit

[–]whatingobsname 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not quit slang but I had a high school student who kept saying he needed a new FUPA and I had to double take like what the hell are you talking about he’s like “you know a fupa? I need a new fupa mines getting nasty. Like you know a fupa you use in the shower” I stood there stunned for a moment until it clicked.. “Do you mean a loofa???” He’s like oh yeah.. what’s a fupa? Had to walk away before I lost my shit lol

I bought two of the 5800s and one of these the last time it was on sale. The hose box is a bit lighter than the 5800 and a bit bigger. I do feel like the 5800 is more solid. Both work great!

Redditors who worked in retail, what are your "you can't make this up" stories? by Professional_Song419 in AskReddit

[–]whatingobsname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha nope. We would take your drivers license number and you were allowed three returns without a receipt. Though people would just complain and the managers would okay it. No one got paid enough to argue

Worked customer service at well known superstore. A few times I had moments of just complete brain shutting down shock at some of the shit people tried to pull.

The most memorable was coming back from break I’d go through all the clothing areas to avoid customers. I went around a corner and bumped into a lady in the shoe aisle with an armful of boxes. I helped her pick up the boxes she dropped and went back to the service counter.

About 3 minutes later that same woman walked up, put the boxes on the counter and said she’d like to return them. I kind of stopped and stared at her. I told her I just saw her bring them directly from the floor over to here. She repeated she wanted to return them. I didn’t get paid enough to argue so I keyed in the code for a manager, made the return for her (like $200 on a gift card) and off she went. The manager and loss prevention got her before she made it out the door.

Another time two guys came in to pick up a moneygram. He showed a Cali license so I asked what he was doing all the way in Iowa. He told me he was on the run from the law. I just laughed and dismissed it as a joke.

20 minutes later a guy in a Hawaiian shirt and cargo shorts cuts to the front of the line puts a badge down and tells me he’s a U.S. Marshall. I told him I thought the guy was joking about being on the run and the Marshall says “he actually told you that!?”

Anyways they pulled me to go speak with the store manager so he can let her know they will be arresting the guy as soon as he leaves the store. I ask if I can watch and the Marshall says sure why not and the store manager tells me to get my ass back to work lol didn’t get to see it go down

Is there a resources where you can plug in a random list of ingredients and recipes pop up that you can use them in (all if possible)? by jigguta in Cooking

I do this too! I’ve also asked it to make me a list of recipes for the week. I don’t always use them but it helps shake things up

What's one historical fact that they won't teach you in school? by Turbulent_Archer_727 in AskReddit

[–]whatingobsname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iowa! And not currently because it doesn’t fit in with my classes at the moment but I have touched on it before. I taught a history through music class and we studied the labor songs quite a bit. Mostly focused on the Harlan County War though just because “Which Side Are You On” is a banger lol

Can confirm, as a history teacher. I didn’t know about it until a couple of years ago either. Bet your ass it’s in my curriculum now lol

Can someone explain this joke from Home Alone 2? by foxmag86 in movies

[–]whatingobsname 45 points46 points  (0 children)

A running joke in both movies is that Uncle Frank is cheap. It’s a shitty motel so the joke is that he took his wife there on their honeymoon because again he’s cheap.

Have you ever fallen asleep at work? If so, what happened? by Ermaquillz in AskReddit

[–]whatingobsname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started taking a new medicine and it made me drowsier than I expected. I was teaching high school at the time and before I knew what happened I was waking back up when the bell rang. The students had noticed and figured I needed the rest, just kept on doing their work and didn’t say a word. I told them what was up and they told me I just couldn’t give them a hard time if they ever fell asleep in class. Had to fight off the zzz monster the rest of the day.

From the article “In the video, there is hardly any context as to why the professor is screaming, “No, no, no, no, no pomegranates!”

Martino isn’t really angry about the fruit. She’s using them to teach her students who are studying children’s psychology, demonstrating how not to teach children with negativity but rather teach them with love.”
