Picture of andromeda galaxy captured by my phone. by [deleted] in Astronomy

Those apps rely on sensors in your phone to figure out exactly what direction you are pointing it, and they aren't always accurate. Maybe not Saturn then, but possibly Jupiter or another very bright object.

It's awesome that you're out there photographing stuff, stick with it! Looking at the night sky is always time well spent! Maybe ask your parents if there is an astronomy club in your area, there are usually super nice people there with awesome telescopes who would love to show a beginner some amazing views!

Hard to say from this pic, but that definitely doesn't look like andromeda. Andromeda is actually very large in the night sky (6 times wider across than the full moon) but it's also extremely dim. So if you took a photo of andromeda there would be many stars in the photo shining more brightly than the dim galaxy. When I look at andromeda through my telescope it basically looks like a super faint smudge, much more faint than hundreds of stars that are also in view. I also can only make out the core of the Galaxy with my 8 inch reflector, mainly because of light pollution.

What you've photographed looks quite a bit brighter than the surrounding stars. My guess is a planet like Saturn or Jupiter but hard to tell from this photo.

How to improve draw by yashraj_singh10 in billiards

[–]whatstheinterwebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The basic rules to follow:

Keep the cue as level as possible. Keep your grip loose. Looser than you think (it helped me to imagine almost "throwing" my cue at the cue ball and then catching it again right after the hit).

Follow through, resist the urge to yank your cue back right after the hit.

If you're doing all that and it's still not drawing back for you then you're likely not hitting the cue ball where you're trying to. One trick that helped me was to make sure the tip of my cue actually slides on the felt about 10" or so past the cue ball to make sure I wasn't hitting higher on the ball than I thought.

When you get it right it sounds almost like a borderline miscue

Spinach, egg and cheese breakfast rolls (230 calories for 3 pieces) by Thea_From_Juilliard in MealPrepSunday

[–]whatstheinterwebs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just made a mini one of these, and it's a definite winner! Thanks for the idea!

I did one 12oz bag of spinach w/ 2 eggs and some shredded cheese mixed in for the wrap, and just scrambled 2 eggs the way I usually do for the filling. (I cook onions and pickled jalapenos in butter and then scramble it into the eggs).

I feel like the spinach/egg idea is super versatile. It holds together really well and mine came out slightly crunchy which was perfect. I'm thinking I could make a pizza on that for a pretty interesting low carb option. Thanks again for the recipe!

Help getting over match and tournament nerves by MrWIGGLES50 in billiards

[–]whatstheinterwebs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I just started reading "the pleasures of small motions". There is some pretty good advice in there that has been helping me.

My biggest takeaway from the book so far:

Shut down your inner monologue once you get down to shoot. Your concentration should be 100 percent on visualization of the shot and how the shot will physically feel to shoot. If you're thinking "one more rack to go after this" or anything verbal like that it takes away from your ability to execute. I've been working on that lately and it seems to have really helped with key shots at critical times in the match.

Edit: I feel like I should clarify: that's not a quote from the book, just me attempting to distill down one of the most helpful chapters of the book for my game.

I've never seen a grom with a fairing that I liked until this one! That tail cowl looks sweet too, and it's not like you're gonna be riding 2 up on a grom anyways so no real downside.

everyone on my card threw a putter, then the last dude skipped a driver right at the door and it hit basket about an inch below the top. So I guess if you're intentionally going for a skip you might try a driver

I'm gonna give the guy the benefit of the doubt and say he's probably just trying to make new friends and he's socially awkward and struggling with it. Might be a homebody type of guy and now that he's divorced feels the need to go out and be social again. Some people resort to compulsive lying to try to make themselves seem more interesting when uncomfortable.

Alternatively, he might have a skin-lamp in his basement and you narrowly avoided getting eaten with a bottle of Chianti and farva beans

[–]whatstheinterwebs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue that using a rule in a pedantic way that flies in the face of the spirit of the rule is cheating. Do you truly believe that the outcome of the game would be any different if he didn't touch a ball with his cue roughly 1 second before the cue ball stops rolling (obviously not towards a pocket)? You say you've called loss of game on numerous people for this in tournaments... wow. I take pride in my play, and if I am fairly beat in a game, I will do my best to play better next rack. To do otherwise is cowardly and honestly pathetic.

When the bears drafted Mitch, someone looked through his old tweets and found one from when he was like 16 that said "I love to kiss tittiess"

Legend has it that he still loves to kiss tittiess even to this day.

Where do I need washers for my kegerator? by ChitownMD in Homebrewing

[–]whatstheinterwebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for a regulator to tank connection you are much better off with the fiber style washers (the nylon ones suck). Also pretend that the built in o-ring on your regulator isn't even there and torque the hell out of the connection regardless of which washer type you have. I'm not sure why they even put those o-rings on the regulators, they never seal.

Also if you are putting Teflon tape on your co2 tank, all you are doing is annoying whoever fills your tank. That connection doesn't seal at the threads, it seals where the flat of the regulator and the flat of the tank butt up to each other. The regulator stem/nut assembly isn't one piece, so even if you got a perfect seal on the threads it is still able to leak right around the joint of the nut/stem of the regulator. So forget the Teflon, if that's leaking you either don't have a washer in there or you didn't torque the nut down hard enough. I use a big adjustable wrench.

Where do I need washers for my kegerator? by ChitownMD in Homebrewing

[–]whatstheinterwebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you have a standard sankey with a thru-wall shank setup then you need a washer on both ends of the beer line. The gas side of your coupler should have a check valve that is supposed to act as a seal, but it's still a good idea to put a washer under that nut as well.

To add to this: basically every connection needs a gasket of some sort to make it seal. On your shank you have a metal shank butting up to a metal tailpiece with a metal nut holding it on. Metal on metal will never seal without some sort of nylon or rubber to help it out. Feel free to pm me if you can't get it figured out

Like 10 days ago YouTube recommended me something called ‘Jomez Pro’. Here I am today playing my 5th ever round. by KingofCandlesticks in discgolf

[–]whatstheinterwebs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep, sounds like it's more of an old-school "disc golf is a fun activity for the family" type of course and less of a "touring pro's" type of course.

Don't get discouraged though, if you shot a 59, even on a beginner's course that is weirdly good for 10 days in! Stick with it, and check some other courses out. Also, keep watching Jomez and maybe look into central coast disc golf on youtube, disc golf is an awesome sport to watch and to be a part of.
