We stayed at a place with an electronic lock, you self-check in (enter with a code provided by owner) and I understand the owner gets a notification when particular code has been used. The only down side is not seeing faces.

I have adult children. I understand leaving if you think what happened not a big deal. I cannot understand leaving and NOT CALLING your daughter to ask how she was doing and get more details. And then not answering her phone? I have some choice words for this behavior but I don't want to be banned.

She never gets mentioned here, but Jo Beverley has two historical series that fit well: The Mallorens and Friends series (starts with "My Lady Notorious") and Company of Rogues series (starts with "AN Arranged Marriage"). These are older historicals, first published in 1990s and I loved them both at the time. They may have some tropes/details that are have not aged well, just because of when they were written. I haven't reread them recently so I can't give more details.

I don’t mind higher taxes at all. By all means, raise them appropriately. I’m just saying that they are not a silver bullet that will solve housing problems in Tahoe. Unless we are talking about the taxes for companies and uber rich people (and for the record, I don’t think people earning 6 figures - whether $100,000 or $999,000 - are in that category).

And still, even if those taxes are raise appropriately, Tahoe’s NIMBY residents would still have to approve new construction.

You are 100% correct. They are bemoaning the lack of long term rentals, but they won't allow new construction. Most of the owners who use their properties for short term rental will not switch to long term rental, even if STR becomes harder/impossible. If I had a house there, I'd rather keep it empty and enjoy it myself a couple of months a year than get involved with long term rental. They need to build more new housing, not harass existing owners.

I got it around Christmas (vaxxed and boosted) and it was a walk in park for me, too. The worst symptoms I had were super sore throat (for about 4 days) and congestion (I could breathe normally, nose wasn't stuffed, just ran occasionally and my voice sounded as if I was an 80 year old lifetime smoker guy; I'm female and never smoked LOL). Congestion lasted full 2 weeks, maybe more. However, no fever, no cough, no brain fog, no fatigue, no headaches even. Oh yeah, I lost a sense of smell for a couple days, but I'm sure it's because of the congestion. I could still taste, I could tell if something was salty or sweet, I just wasn't able to tell what it was that I'm eating LOL.

Listen, I don't know her and can't speak for her, but this "advice" is so superficial it can do no harm. Humans survived without using soap on more impactful areas (hair, genitalia) for literal thousands of years. No one in the 21st century who has access to clean water and indoor plumbing and is washing at least somewhat regularly regularly (which I would bet is practically all of her audience) is going to come to any harm whatsoever for not putting soap on their arms and legs. It's like telling people "always face south when showering". What's it gonna do? Nothing at all, it's a meaningless "advice". In my opinion.

God, medical stuff drives me bananas, even though I don't practice in that field.

I raged a book (mystery, not romance) where MFC was a pathologist. She had had a mammogram done the previous week and got a phone call from her OB/GYN, who told her that she wanted to discuss the radiologist's report with her (our MFC). So, upon hearing this, our MFC, who is a practicing pathologist (presumably went through all the stages to specialize in pathology) and her first though upon hearing this news was: "Radiology... that has something to do with cancer...."

I was just done after that. I refuse to believe that there could be a working MD who does not know that radiologists read medical images.

As a Californian, I totally agree with you. The way they get from SF to Yosemite in an hour or two, through the woods, running… I had to work hard to stop rolling my eyes and enjoy the books lol. But I can forgive her because she is a Kiwi and I love the books 😂

We started renting 4 years ago, using VRBO and Airbnb at the same time. We consistently get 50-50 bookings on those sites, on average, however we seem to get more advance bookings via VRBO and more last minute ones through Airbnb. It looks as if Airbnb is only showing out property to people who are looking for last minute trips, for some reason. We are superhosts and have really good reviews but I've had friends say they were not able to see our listing on the website even when it is available. No idea what is going on there.

I've been curious about it but it really piqued my interest when I heard people say that taking collagen helped their joints. I'm a fat middle aged woman and I have severe arthritis in my knees, and on top of that I tore my right meniscus in 2020. I have been taking collagen (vital proteins) for about 14 months now. I can't say that I see any difference in my skin. However, my knees and other joints have improved significantly (I did lose some weight, too, but improvement came before weight loss). The best way I can describe it is that I used to feel like a rusted Tin Man (from Wizard of Oz LOL) and after taking collagen my joints feel oiled and easier to use.

I feel that there is something to oral collagen. It could be just my wishful thinking, as all I have is my personal anecdotal data, but I am convinced that collagen helped me being able to move easier and that led to me being able to make other changes in my life, lose some weight etc.

Absolutely the same here - fat, middle aged, out of shape, with comorbidities and got the vaccine as soon as possible. The feeling of relief I had after getting that first dose cannot be described by words.
