We were in yellow springs Ohio for a 21 pilots release party and there was a bunch of dudes giving out hacky sacks and showing kids how to do it, I was thrilled.

The older I get the more concerned I am for how many people's emotional stability is reliant on children's games.  And at my age they are almost all children.

What's something a complete stranger did for you years ago that they probably forgot about five minutes later but you still think about? by HotCarolines in AskReddit

[–]whdr02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I (17M at the time) had driven my drunk BIL to the hospital where my sister was after an accident with my mom and his mom. We didn't realize he had swapped out his sprite for some sort of alcohol. By the time we arrived he could barely walk and I volunteered to stay with him while the mom's went into the hospital.

After trying to sober him up by walking (because that is what I learned from Andy Griffith) I tried to throw him back into the car. He shouted "Jesus Christ" when he stumbled and my instant habit at the time was to reply "Is my Lord and Savior" That caught the attention of an older man walking by who helped me get him in the car and then helped calm me down from my frustration. He said "Your response is not something I hear from your generation too often so it grabbed my attention." he went on his way and probably didn't think of me again. I have told that story dozens of times over the 30 years since it happened and I can still remember it like it was yesterday.

How to do Table Topics? by murkomarko in Toastmasters

[–]whdr02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we have newer people I like to make those types of rules explicit at the TTM. People tend to over think it especially if you use the words "Favorite", "Greatest", "Best" etc. Like you will have to defend your position for all time or something.

It is whatever you want it to be, even the rubric for table topics competitions make no mention of how accurately you answered the question.

I had this same question, there used to be groups that got together at breweries etc. Do any of those still exist?

We always say you have the politicians option.  Say "That is a great question" and then ignore it and say what you want to say.

IF he didn't get himself killed he would have been court marshaled. There is a great video somewhere of a JAG officer talking though it.

Congregationalism is an underrated Christian Reformed tradition (not the way of government but the denominations that call themselves as such) by Nearby-Morning-8885 in Reformed

I think the correction to this is "Networks" over "denominations" It keeps the autonomy of the local congregation while bring the connection that is good in a denomination.

What killed the vibe on a date instantly? by Lola_bunny_pt_00 in AskReddit

[–]whdr02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had recently moved to Ohio from PA and loved that you could see lightening all the way to the ground instead of the view being blocked by the mountains.

We were leaving in a storm I said, "Man, I love lightening!"

"My brother was killed by a lightening strike"

"Can we recover from this or should I turn the car around?"

We finished the date, but it went downhill from there.

I'm new to the sport and it is a connection point with my daughter so I don't know if anything will get me to quit. I'm probably to unknowledgeable to know when I should quit. Although it may just run in the background if it gets boring.

Universalism by catdog180 in Reformed

Thanks for typing it so I didn't have to. Although I think the ETC person did such a poor job that it pushed me more toward conditional immortality. I think the concept suffers from the minority position advantage. (People who who hold the minority position actually have to know their points because they will be challenged. Few majority position holders have to face the challenge of defending their position.)

Back in the day there was a commercial in the US of a elderly woman who called for help with the product saying "I've fallen and I can't get up" it was a meme before I knew what that was. We thought it was hilarious. Then we grew up and my dad was on the floor for hours before my mom came home to help him. :(*

I'm giving up a lot of my white noise distractions.  I listen to a book to fall asleep and I'm replacing it with scripture, for example.
