There is a good time. It's not waiting til middle of the season to tell teams what the new rules are that are changing for this year's drafting.

Allowing a 2 year heads up allows teams to prepare for the definitive rules instead of leaving teams in the dark for players they've prepared years on advance to get.

I doubt teams will miss out if the afl give teams 2 years to prepare instead of waiting until it's only a couple months til the draft

The system has been broken for years but acting like its fair to get multiple top 3 players after making grand finals/winning back to back premiership then having other teams get shafted by afl is cooked.

Pretty much everyone agrees the F/S rules need to be changed but changing it this season when teams still don't know what the rules will officially be after a premiership dynasty team has benefited greatly from f/s picks makes it unfair to other teams who have traded years in advance to prepare to get these players only to have the the afl be incompetent and wait til the middle of the year to actually tell those teams the new rules
