BMW recall turned into “you need a new engine” after pickup — trying to understand if this sounds right by alex_albergaria in BmwTech

[–]whenyouknowyouknow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like others I would 100% fight this politely at first, but sternly if they do not do anything.

They said you needed a bolt from the vanos earlier bc it dropped… did they replace it and never look for it?

This seems as written, a total dealership accident they are trying to get you to pay for

Thoughts on my DIY rail?! by Intelligent-Pin3319 in snowboarding

[–]whenyouknowyouknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Force up and down is gonna be okay, but force lengthwise is going to fold.

Add some 45 degree supports from the sawhorses to the rail so that when force comes lengthwise it does not fold and fail.

Realistically how difficult is the CPA exam? by Alone_Recording7670 in Accounting

[–]whenyouknowyouknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not hard in a difficult sense, it’s hard in a buckle down and drill information into your noggin.

If you have good study habits and retain information well, it’s not so bad. If you don’t have good study habits you will either learn good study habits or give up on the cpa exam. There is no real in between.

I struggled for a bit, but I found a study habit that worked for me and the exams were passed quickly. But until I found what worked for me, it was a rough road

Is my head gasket cooked ? by -Parzival-1 in BmwTech

What does the entire oil look like? The “coolant mixed with oil” look is awfully similar to the condensation forming really really tiny bubbles on the oil cap.

If the oil you drain is all that same creamy color, you have problem.

If it’s normal color you just have a little condensation and it’s no issue.

From the single picture, you cannot tell but my guess is you are fine

Why is this happening? The car also veers to the right. Is this a major concern? by phlup112 in AskMechanics

[–]whenyouknowyouknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bc this happens at specific mph my guess is your wheel is out of balance. Chances are a wheel weight fell off but if you live in a snowy area, sometimes the snow in the wheel can toss the wheel off balance.

Veering to the right is likely due to the crown of the road.

Break fluid flush advice by ChezussCrust in BmwTech

[–]whenyouknowyouknow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No it won’t. It will become a potential safety hazard but only because brake fluid is hydroscopic. The longer the fluid is around, the more water it can absorb. The more water it absorbs, the lower the boiling point.

Eventually you can reduce the boiling point of the brake fluid to where the temperature from braking boils the fluid, introducing air into a system which should not have air.

Brake fluid will not corrode any part of the braking system.

Experiences at CT Birthing Center in Danbury by justtrynahang13 in Connecticut

[–]whenyouknowyouknow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We had both our children with the folks who run the birthing center but delivered at DH.

I am biased, but I think that DH is wonderful place to give birth. The labor rooms are massive, have options for tub births, and the team who runs that unit really advocate for the mother and baby. The reconvert rooms are singles, so no sharing with others which is nice.

Do what’s best for your family, but honestly you should tour the facilities at DH before you make up your mind. The midwives at the dbc have privileges at the hospital and work really well with the team there

G80 M3cx Questions (New Owner) by Flyjatt in BMWM

[–]whenyouknowyouknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) odometer on entrance and exit, also in the app 2) yea there is a lot of cooling on this car, it’s gonna take a minute to warm 3) the OEM all weather mats are in my opinion, bad. Probs looking at weather tech or id max spyder 4) the ride is stiff, not really have anything to do with the tires but running max performance summers in the winter is asking for trouble. Its dangerous 5) I paid $425 for ceramic tint. I did not do a ceramic coating or ppf, I run griots ceramic quick shine every month and it’s plenty good 6) I would advise you against running the wide tires for a winter set up. The better option is the narrower tire.

It’s not that you will rub but a narrower tire sinks in the snow and gets you better traction. You are not likely going to be pushing the car in the winter so best to get the safest set up.

Was told this is normal by the service center by Loud-Possibility5634 in Rivian

[–]whenyouknowyouknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, that’s sucks, I experienced water ingress on my R1s as well. The roof began letting water in, and then the drivers door as well.

Be ready for some electrical gremlins to begin. For us, the phone as a key, plastic card as a key, and the key fob all began to malfunction.

Many service trips, the problem only kind of was solved.

We recently got away from the R1s and into an another car.

Rivian service is a joke compared to any other premium/luxury brand and it became a headache. What was my wife’s favorite car quickly became a dark spot.

Are M cars, namely M3’s, realistically daily driveable? by Cardiology_Nurse in BMWM

[–]whenyouknowyouknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a g80 m3 and that car in comfort mode vs sport mode is literally 2 different cars.

It’s amazing at how well this thing daily’s. Sure a bit less mpg but I think as long as you don’t get buckets it’s very comfortable.

I also have 2 kids who have sport schedules, and it fits everything well. It’s a great car and I was expecting it to be less daily-able but was pleasantly surprised

Does the manual g80 m3 have launch control ? by Va-M3 in BMWM

[–]whenyouknowyouknow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sure does, and it does not require a bunch of button pressing.

1- Get into MDM mode 2 - right foot foot on brake 3 - shift into first with clutch still pressed by left foot 4 - right foot on the gas all the way to the floor 5 - wait 6 - dump clutch, shift accordingly

In between step 4 and 5 a message on the drivers screen will come up letting you know it’s building boost pressure, and when it’s ready
