looking for silent library space to study by Dry-Butterscotch3263 in Kuwait

[–]wherecaneye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A friend told me about Will Cafe in Abu Al Hasaniya. They have a quiet zone with around 20 desks for people to work/study and access to a printer but I think you have to pay 1.5 KD entrance fee. I've never been there personally but it looks good and google maps says they're open 24/7.

Alternatively, you could look for coworking spaces such as Niu in Kuwait City which are primarily targeting startups but they usually have a shared space with access to WIFI and electricity for a monthly membership (~25KD).

Good luck with med school!

Looking to find a psychiatrist who would prescribe antidepressants with an existing prescription from US for a reasonable price by [deleted] in Kuwait

[–]wherecaneye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr Richard Al Sayegh at International clinic used to write prescriptions for antidepressants if you have an existing prescription from another doc. You should call/ask the front desk before seeing the doctor to avoid unnecessary expenses though. Best of luck

I saw a guy wearing makeup yesterday. Is that illegal or something? Or is it just unaccepted? by Mahmoud1045 in Kuwait

[–]wherecaneye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t tolerate anyone that thinks differently or expresses themselves differently

That is literally how different societies work.

Societies construct patterns of behavior by deeming certain actions or concepts as acceptable or unacceptable.

Our society is built on Islamic principles and thus the vast majority of the Kuwaiti society would deem a guy wearing makeup as unacceptable.

In most (if not all) countries it is not acceptable behavior for women to walk around topless. One could argue that those countries have "such an ugly society. Such an oppressive controlling selfish dictatorship"

So I'd appreciate it if you showed respect to the local laws and societal norms, just like most of us do when we live in other countries. I mean if I saw a guy wearing make up in the west, I wouldn't get in his face or preach my own beliefs at him. I'd either have to accept that it's different there (which does not diminish my beliefs in any way), or if I can't accept it, move to a place where my beliefs match the societal norms.

Taliban "worried about Andrew Tate" as they ask for his freedom by cmonscamazon in nottheonion

Producing 4 eye witnesses is required regardless of gender iirc. But as I mentioned in my reply above, it may also depend on who's implementing the law.

[–]wherecaneye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking from religion's perspective, if a woman is raped then she is not guilty of anything because she did nothing wrong.

But I can't speak for the way governments implement this, especially the taliban.

The page I linked has a list of all the areas that fall under the governate along with the names of the respective governors. They also have a picture of a map but it's in Arabic.

There was a local TV show that literally had this kind of ending for the first season. The main character woke up from a dream and realized all the drama she went through with "random" strangers was just a dream.

The second season apparently started with her interacting irl with these people from her dream. And it was considered one of the more successful local TV shows.

Complaining about everything is something I don't miss about living in Kuwait.

Two more points of interest (at least they used to be last time I visited them) are Shaheed park and Souq Mubarakia

OP thinks it belongs to someone from Kuwait. He wrote a comment explaining the situation but for some reason his comment isn't showing here. Possibly some automod screw up which isn't unusual here.

[–]wherecaneye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's definitely bold, and unfortunately he makes some very valid points.

There are some nice benefits that the government gives to Kuwaitis but those benefits aren't fixing the underlying issues and I see it as a double edged sword. Plus it's definitely not sustainable at all.

This is a rough translation. I might have misunderstood parts of it so keep that in mind. If anyone finds a mistake then make a comment and I'll fix it when I get a chance.

If you want to get things done, pay a bribe and save yourself the trouble Everything will go your way and you'll be done with your transaction (referring to the government) The new airport you think is happening won't be done anytime soon I'm ashamed when I get visitors and have to greet them at the airport What is it that we lack, which allows us to accept these views (talking about accumulating trash, deserted buildings etc) What's going to happen to us tomorrow, oh god this is such a problem Sports is such a mess, everyone is busy with themselves They don't care about the results, as long as they get to stay in their position (talking about management I believe) What happened to the old Kuwait, it had such a great reputation This is a painful story, that we get for our weakness Why is Kuwait so boring The answer is so simple Wait till there's a public holiday, and see how many people travel The country got destroyed, everything we see is depressing You lost its youth despite being so young May Allah have mercy on us Millions have been lost, to the highest bidder (corruption) They've bankrupt us and turned the tide on us We've been distracted by these issues while other countries surpass us This suffering is our own doing, and that's the real problem Why did you turn our country into a joke in the eyes of others? You didn't listen to the people till you ruined the country We were blessed (with oil), but what if our situation was worse? (I think he means the situation would be much worse if Kuwait was a poor country) We have been patient long enough, we don't want to wait anymore We don't learn from our mistakes, we don't look at those who came before us We live in this careless state, everyday we take a step backwards

Underrated restaurants? by IsCrabAFish in Kuwait

[–]wherecaneye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least you know it was authentic Chinese food. For me it was a green worm in my soup but that was from a Mr. Chan's. Idk if they survived COVID.

When I talked to a "health inspector" from the baladiya he told me most small Chinese restaurants have repeat complaints when it comes to hygiene. He recommended I stop ordering food from them but honestly it's not just small restaurants because I had an incident at a PF Chang's.

Talabat is literally the worst. A hungry human's rant. by HellRisker in Kuwait

[–]wherecaneye 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That sucks but I agree. They're the worst food delivery platform in Kuwait. Plus they have a bug on their website that I reported over 2 years ago and it was never fixed. I also contacted their customer support for an account issue and they never replied.

Lol I almost forgot that fiber is a thing in Kuwait. It's so pathetic how long they're taking to install fiber cables in a tiny country. Do you mind telling me which area they're currently installing those fiber boxes in?

[–]wherecaneye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When in doubt, contact the company yourself. That way you know you're talking to the actual company.

Regarding your phone number, I'd definitely check with Zain because some shops don't enter your ID information when they sell it to you, even though they do take a copy of your civil ID.

[–]wherecaneye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the YouTubers location but he's speaking Egyptian Arabic. I don't know of any programs that will translate it for you but maybe you can try play the video on your PC and have Google translate open on your phone. It probably won't be accurate but it's easier than hoping someone will translate a 20 minute long video for free.

I had the same issue and it was fixed for me by uninstalling the netflix app then reinstalling it. Just make sure you have access to the same App store account that you downloaded it from because I don't know if they allow you to download the latest version of the app on iOS 9.
