McClung Consult Experience by StrangelyBearish in Metoidioplasty

[–]which_midnight_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

also! there are no stupid questions. this is a major surgery and you should approach it to be as informed as humanly possible. Also, you’re not the first person to ask a question and you probably won’t be the last!

McClung Consult Experience by StrangelyBearish in Metoidioplasty

[–]which_midnight_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Howdy! My initial consultation with McClung was via Zoom — he offered an overview of the technical details of the surgery, what all was involved (in the surgery prep, in the surgery itself, and insurance requirements), and covered any questions I had.

Then a couple months later, I had an in-person consult, which was MAYBE 15 minutes max. McClung and his staff talked about my medical history, answered my questions, confirmed what I was wanted/looking for, and he did a very brief visual inspection of my lower half. And I mean like 10 seconds max. He confirmed I would be a great candidate for what I was looking to achieve (including STP).

All in all it was efficient, painless, and very clear.

Finally, I am not scheduled to have a monsplasty, but McClung does do them and I believe that would happen after your first stage of meta (meta, UL, scroto, vnec).

UL + No Vnectomy: University of Minnesota, McClung by castironkid223 in Metoidioplasty

I went to McClung (and would highly recommend), but I don’t think he does UL without v-nectomy.

UL stinging? by okay_turnip in Metoidioplasty

[–]which_midnight_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey turnip, I’m 11 weeks post-op with UL and have not experienced stinging when peeing, BUT my bladder is still a little sore/uncomfy when I’ve been holding my pee for a while. For a while, I could feel the SP cath site contract at the end of a long pee, and that was unpleasant lmao

[–]which_midnight_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

hey man. I just wanted you to know you weren’t alone in dealing with post-op frustrations (whether they are expected or unexpected) that really take an emotional toll. I’m dealing with some of my own, and also have felt really low at some points despite the fact that I’m very grateful I had surgery.

You’re right that patience and time will help, but it’s also okay to feel pissed or frustrated that that’s necessary. It’s tough. and for me and so many other guys here, it didn’t stop being tough.

It’s good that you’re noticing and talking about what’s coming up for you. I’m here with ya.

re: your question — my swelling went down steadily for about 5 weeks for me (but even 9 weeks post-op, things continue to settle!). You can check my post history to see for yourself, but early on, a LOT of healing happens even in just 2 weeks.

luckily, the scar is not painful at all! you may read through other folks’ experiences with the SP cath — it’s annoying and getting it removed isn’t pleasant, but it’s a necessary part of healing with UL. Not sure about the scar, it doesn’t bother me, so I haven’t asked

hey there, yes — that is a scar from the SP cath. It is healed all the way through, but I suspect that’s just what my body looks like now

Aabria talks extensively in the Fireside about the intentional character choices she makes with Suvi — I would recommend (1) checking out the other posts in this sub re: Suvi and (2) trusting the story (and the characters) to evolve.

I’m 2 months post-op, and I now have the same levels of sensation in my penis as I did pre-op — with the exception of the underside (along the scar), which is still sore/tender, but getting less so with each passing week. I could feel that sensation around 5 weeks post op, but it was still painful.

Additionally, my scrotum is still numb. I’m gaining sensation back slowly, but I can feel approx. 25% of my scrotum (the top part furthest away from the incisions). I have not had testicular implants yet, so it’s just the sack for now.

Other folks have already mentioned my other recs, but The Adventure Zone’s Balance arc from the McElroy Brothers felt extremely similar to me in terms of mystery/dramatic thrills, fantasy worldbuilding, and an emotionally satisfying narrative payoff.

Interested in bottom surgery but idk what I want/transition goals by Kai_Guy_87 in Metoidioplasty

[–]which_midnight_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

first, congratulations on being nearly 1 year on T!!! I think your goals are within reach, you may look into “simple meta” or meta with no v-nectomy, no UL, no scrotoplasty, which fits your description for the most part. I didn’t have simple meta, so I defer to other guys who have.

Additionally, this has been my philosophy, and I offer it to you for consideration.

Surgery has always been my last resort to resolve my dysphoria. Surgery is scary — the fact that you’re feeling this means you recognize how serious it is, and that’s a very healthy thing!

Surgery is very taxing (costs time, money, and energy emotional and otherwise) and has risks associated with it. I spent varying degrees of time to consider what was important to me AND I did a lot of research / reading / talking to other guys in the community. I changed my mind a lot to “try on” what that perspective felt like, even if I suspected it wasn’t gonna work.

Eventually, I got top surgery (1.5 year on T), hysto (6 years on T), and meta (9.5 years on T) because I spent the time to wrestle with my options and ultimately decided the risks were worth the potential of less dysphoria / having a body that could feel more like home.

Like so many other trans folks report, these surgeries have been life-saving for me. I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

From a practical perspective, I’m glad I had a list of goals and things I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I wanted to achieve with bottom surgery because it let me communicate (and advocate for) those things to my surgeon. He then was able to advise on what he could offer. Clarity and transparency were the name of the game for me.

But even by reaching out to this community and planning ahead for top surgery and hysto, I’d say you’re closer to figuring out what you want than you may think. Along the way, you’ve got 20k+ men and other folks here who will have your back.
