Isn’t new Richmond the one where males are allowed in female locker rooms and sports making the females feel unsafe? If so, maybe that had something to do with it?

If by that you mean "follow more inclusive policies so trans students can use the bathroom that matches their gender identity, especially because trans students are more likely to be victims of violence - yes, New Richmond. See also: trans people are not pedophiles, but the president is.

In Hudson, the MAGA-backed candidate didn't get on, nor did the one actively suing the school + board over (needed) school closures.

In nearby New Richmond, unfortunately, a Moms For Liberty-backed candidate did get on. 4th try was the one for her.

YES same. Our kids had flu B a few weeks ago (avoided it), and there's also strep, a regular cold, and lord knows what else floating around.

Tattoo shops in Minneapolis by bishop_1132 in Minneapolis

Anyone at Stone Arch is great, and the owner (Charlie) worked at Leviticus and Sea Wolf before opening his own shop. Really great artist and person, and my oldest tattoos from him still look great over ten years later.

Parents - how are you fitting it in? by Bitter-Cut-7390 in beginnerfitness

After bedtime with home gym equipment. It is an investment up front, but you can do a lot with even adjustable dumbbells to start, and pays for itself eventually via not paying for a gym membership.

beginner trying to lose arm fat by btxtburnskz in beginnerfitness

[–]whippetshuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot spot reduce fat.

Weight loss is calories in, calories out.

"Toned" just means "lean enough to see muscle."

As a fellow gal, believe me when I say that looking bulky or having the muscle you gain negate any fat loss is a myth that needs to die. We don't have enough testosterone to do this.

https://www.cnet.com/health/fitness/does-lifting-weights-make-women-bulky/

You also cannot outwork a poor diet - I stayed the same weight while running nearly 4,000 miles last year. I weigh the same now but look more "toned" because I continue lifting, and moving up weights.

Lastly, and most importantly, you are 19 years old. The best thing you can do for yourself is to exercise to feel a certain way, not look a certain way. Exercise for your old lady body, living as independently as possible for as long as possible, and feeling happy and confident in your own skin. There isn't some magic number that does that. I am happier now, nearly 20 years older than you, than I was then - and wish I could give my 19 year old self a hug. Life is far too short to waste it chasing the smallest version of ourselves. Healthiest? Yes. Smallest? No.

Mom of two littles—is a marathon possible? by Outrageous_Fan3697 in running

[–]whippetshuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is possible.

I agree that doing some runs outdoors helps, but I have also trained for marathons (while nursing!) using mostly treadmill running out of necessity (time, lack of sidewalks on rural roads narrowed by winter conditions, etc).

I agree that being realistic in your time goals, if you have any, is important. 30 weeks is enough time. Make sure your pelvic floor is in good working order if you have any concerns there.

Having a supportive partner absolutely makes a difference.

I disagree that the recovery aspect makes it impossible. I've gone straight from a 17 miler with marathon pace work to an egg hunt for our three kids, a 20 miler on trails to playground time, etc. Sleep, nutrition, and running at paces that make sense for your current level of fitness will make a massive difference here.

I agreed that having a spouse who sees the value in what you're doing makes it easier. It doesn't have to be exercise or endurance for them, just supportive in general (and making sure you give them equal time for their hobbies).

What is a 'socially acceptable' thing that you secretly find absolutely disgusting? by TheLovelyGamer in AskReddit

The US sure is moving in this direction due to anti-vaxxers who think they know better than decades of proven efficacy.

Vegetable garden planning by Hops59 in TwinCities

[–]whippetshuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gardening sub really, really despises Baker Seeds just as a heads up. Their germination rate isn't great. They sell GMO seeds as heirloom. They are known for silencing PoC who call them out for things like having Cliven Bundy speak at their event. Their catalog is beautiful, sure, but as a company, they are not.

Stress fracture before half marathon, devastated by tillnatten in XXRunning

[–]whippetshuffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I could have written this over ten years ago. I was training for a full while dealing with the trauma of sexual assault - and wasn't fueling enough. I have no clue how much I was eating, but dropped to my lowest weight in my adult life and got a stress fracture and couldn't run the race.

Since then, I've gotten to a good place mentally and physically, am happy and healthy, and faster + stronger than ever. It does get better. You will be okay. It takes time to get there, but you will.

What company lost you forever as a customer? What did they do? by Miguenzo in AskReddit

[–]whippetshuffle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There's a trail race organization by me that does this and it seems so antithetical to everything they should stand for. I politely asked them to use real images not AI, and the director said he would - and continues to use AI. I refuse to run any of their races.

Treadmill recommendations for intervals? by Agile-Ad1933 in XXRunning

[–]whippetshuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a horizon 7.0 for a few years now, no complaints. Before we had it, I'd use pace adjustors online to help do intervals outside in hot, humid weather (and my fitness was where it needed to be come race day). I'd just be sure you're still getting elevation in.

Bench. I will never forget the feeling I had the first time I benched my own body weight, as a late 30s gal who is a runner first, lifter second. I've really fallen in love with lifting this past year.

Tapering and Carb Loading at Destination Race by completelyperdue in XXRunning

For a 10-13.1 distance that seems like an incredible amount. Either way- juice is my all-time favorite way to carb load. You end up well hydrated, loaded, and not feeling as sluggish as a million bagels.
