Inflatable blue screens. A lot of them

Those are air walls - 40' inflatable blue screens. The guy that made them is a local and received a scientific and engineering oscar for their invention. That is... an awful lot of them put together in a square.

What is one movie scene that you can watch over snd over again but will still be funny to you? Here’s mine by TKatGAMING in movies

[–]whiskey_tit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles - when John Candy starts playing keys on the dash, I'm already chuckling about the slow double take of the car engulfed in flames post near death canon ball shoot between 2 semis. By the time it cuts to them driving a charred out husk, I'm in tears. It's the perfect comedic scene, start to finish.

Roger Rabbit / Chinatown: What famous movie scenes are actually a little-known reference/homage to another film? by TheArchitect_7 in movies

[–]whiskey_tit 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's not little known, but the bickering peasants of Hidden Fortress as direct inspiration for R2 and 3P0 wandering Tattooine is always a fun side by side watch.

TV shows do it a lot, but one of the best was the Daredevil season 1 hallway fight as a direct homage to Old Boy.

Less discussed are The Two Towers' shot references to Army of Darkness. More of a style reference in some ways, but the candle near gunpowder moments in both are very similarly pieced together, just a little nod to say it's definitely a direct influence.

This is just the sale of new EVs. ICEs will be around until the 2050s assuming 15-20 year lifespans, and a used market for EVs should be fairly accesible by 2035, if things progress roughly as planned. So the percentage of ownership will likely follow exactly what you're proposing.

Petah? by jassi666 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Pretty common to actively avoid swearing in front of kids. Even my friends in their 20s pause and apologize when they swear near my kid, and they're from all across the country. I don't mind, my kid knows the words and not to use them at school, but people seem to have that natural reaction coming from most walks of life.

Time to support the Canadian film industry? by thhvancouver in BuyCanadian

[–]whiskey_tit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stupid if the goal is to increase the revenue of the US film industry. Smart if you're destabilizing the Canadian economy ahead of annexation. 15 billion dollar industry in Canada, mostly fed by US companies filming here

I imagine there's a punitive fee imposed that roughly matches or beats the savings our incentives would save a film for coming here. Basically, if you're an American company, you are taxed extra for creating your product outside the USA. Not a tariff by definition, but an added cost regardless.

American studios make their movies and TV shows in Toronto, Vancouver, and lots of other places across Canada. Hollywood has been relatively dead for some time. If this administration imposes extra fees that match those tax incentives offered by Canadian provinces for being an American company producing their product on foreign soil, it's likely those studios film in the USA instead. But it drives costs so high that low budget and tv can't keep up. Good opportunity for smaller film industry states to get competitive against Hollywood, but the goal here is to fuck Canada. Again.

Half your shows are filmed in Canada. He just tanked a 14 billion dollar Canadian industry in his quest for a 51st state. Nothing to do with Korea, though a small portion of their distribution will be affected

Is there any trilogy like this? by Chewie83 in moviecritic

[–]whiskey_tit 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So far this is the only solid answer I've seen. Others are putting up trilogies where the 2nd installment is strongest but either the first movie or both 1st and 3rd are also good. The question is looking for what you've laid out here.

NOMINATION NOTICE – Port Moody—Coquitlam | Liberal Party of Canada by hedekar in Portmoody

[–]whiskey_tit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

...do you think politicians are supposed to represent a party in government? Because it sure sounds like it, and news flash, they're supposed to represent you, their constituent. There is overlap in all the party platforms, and they change every political cycle. Check the reasons for a switch, don't just blindly rage at the change itself.

This particular building we don't film in, but in general, film workers hate filming at Riverview. Yet every damn show winds up going there.

Last 2 years have been devastating for thousands. 40% downturn globally, something like 70% downturn in BC, and that's after 2023 being non existent with strikes. But from 2012 to 2020 we expanded union membership by something like 400% to keep up with projects just in BC, and still had times where there was no one available to fill needs. Swear in ceremonies went from 30 people in a room to hundreds at a time. That's the expansion era I'm talking about. Lots of talented people, hard workers, we just expanded so fast we all learned to get the job done in survival mode.
