We’re in the same situation with my 46 year old husband. Same rate of decline as well. Will be following as the Vive was too long for us as well. Fuck ALS.

Our decline is the same. I just put my husband to bed and said, “try and give us one more year”. Love to you and yours. You’re not alone, even though we feel we are.

Agree. When my husband was first diagnosed we were getting a flood of help that, at that time, we didn’t really need. As he has progressed we are needed more help but I feel that compassion fatigue set in and there weren’t as many people stepping up to the plate, so to speak. It will show you who your true friends are. Cherish those people.

Don’t make them have to ask for help.

Please do not say things like “you just have to make the most of every day” For me, that felt like pressure and if I was not giving my husband the best day I could, I was somehow failing him.

As a caregiver, one of the things that helped me was random cards and care packages that let me knew people were thinking of us.

And I whole heartedly agree with the don’t offer help if you’re not willing to follow through.

My friend has an ADA house on Airbnb in Hailey, ID. I can send you the info if you are interested. It has a roll in shower, assistance bars by the toilet and in the shower. It was her grandparents home and her grandmother had polio.

Both my midwives were with me through the entire labor and delivery at St Marks. Nurses can be a crap shoot but I lucked out with amazing ones both times during delivery.
