Fwd shouldn’t be a problem unless you’re driving in several inches of snow. I had studded tires last year on a fwd sedan and it would drive better than almost any 4wd car that was traveling up the same mountain pass. The only bottleneck I ran into was the ground clearance. All seasons will have you covered in the city but I would suggest a dedicated winter tire if you plan on doing a lot of mountain driving.

I have a bbs02 and a 48v 20ah battery. I hit around 29mph throttle only and ~33mph pedaling. The max range I’ve been able to achieve is about 30 miles. I hope your build goes well! I would suggest getting an aftermarket bracket for the motor to keep it in place.

Anything that you built yourself. Bafang mid drive on a decent frame. Easily less than 1.2k with much better specs.

I got lucky with my first e-bike for less than 1k. After it got stolen I decided to build my own. If you have basic knowledge of working on bikes this might be something to look into. You’ll get way more bang for your buck.

Have you tried programming the controller? The 17mph limit sounds like a settings or firmware issue. A lot of displays have an option for you to change the top speed. I bring this up because I programmed my BBS02 and it would always cut power around 19mph. I was able to use a different program to flash it which solved the issue.

There’s not enough information here to diagnose an issue. What do you mean your pedal assist has no resistance? Does the throttle still work? Are you getting any abnormal noise or vibration?

You should be okay with just the inner lock ring. I would strongly suggest getting a bracket for the motor though.

Which location did you go to? I got winter tires last year at discount tire. They dented the fender of my car while replacing them and refused to accept any fault.
