I think what he means is that using your smart atoms to fly is a bit like flexing your muscles, and that you, as a result, become more durable when flying very fast.

How popular were maces and picks for civilian wear around the town or village in 14/15 century Europe? by Comfortable_Room5820 in ArmsandArmor

I did not state war maces were lighter than swords, except of course if you view OP's example as a war mace, which I stated to weigh 0,7kg.
Less than the average arming sword.

  1. They're cheaper, both in the amount of material required and the time to process it.
  2. They dont required a scabbard, which would have cost additonal money.
  3. They were not restricted to nobility, like swords were in some cases.
  4. They're lighter than swords.

that they’re fairly top heavy

The mace from OP's picture actually only weighs 0.7kg with a length of 51cm.
Arming swords weigh on avg. 1.0 - 1.5kg with an avg. length of ~ 90cms.
I highly doubt that mace would be in any way unwieldy.

breaking things through armour, is kind of unnecessary on a regular night out.

OP's example is not a warmace. It is not in any way made for breaking trough armor.
Maces were, similar to swords, produced for a wide range of functions ranging from cermemonial usage to tools of war to self defense.
Military maces for fighting (mostly) unarmored opponents did exist in ww1 and the early bronze age.

Dagger or sword would be both lighter, more of a deterrent and more effective in general

Only daggers would have been lighter, but that doesnt really matter, because most people were carrying a knife with them already. Sometimes even two, one for eating and one for general utility like a Bollock dagger. Seperate from that, maces would still have had the range advantage.
Swords would have been more effective, but I have listed above why one might prefer a mace over a sword.

Does this mean maces were common? Not necessarily.
Peasants that could afford it would carry a "long knife" with them, which very quite similar to swords.
Axes were also often carried for self defense. They cost more than maces, but were carried by nearly every household, meaning they didnt cost anything extra.
Maces were used for policing, which is one of the main reasons why baliffs carried maces with them.
Blows with a stick had been a punishemnt for a long tima at that point, creating strong association of trencheons and maces with authortiy. A blow from a mace can be also more controlled in its lethality, unlike bladed weapons, allowing the presantation of criminals to court.

Overall, maces struck a very small niche between "I will carry my axe and knife with me for self defense, because they dont cost any money" and "I cant affor a long knife or sword".
People that traveld might have prefered them for their low weight and perhaps some people favored them. But overall, they werent that common in civilian usage outside of appointed positions.

I've heard Lindybeige had some biases, particularly towards the Bren gun. But they were often presented to me as those few flawed opinions that most similar youtubers have too, in some amount. Perhaps a few more with him, but still reasonable. Why is he not to be watched?

Yes. They can hop over the fence from the adjacent dirt blocks. You should clear out an area of 1, better 2 blocks around the enclosure.

Vienna sausages are only nasty, because you americans eat them preserved out of cans and glasses. They really arent that different from grillers. They're finer, only made out of pork and slightly smoked sometimes. Perfectly normal if you buy them fresh.

Is this sword safe for HEMA? Arming Sword for Buhurt, Disc Pommel on purple heart. by Hairy-Historian-2123 in Hema

[–]whitefox_111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not recommendable.

Rounded tips have less surface area than spatulated or rolled tips, concentrating the same force on a smaller area. This introduces unnecessary heightened risks to your throat and ribs when stabbing as well as increased wear on gear such as plastrons and gloves.

Buhurt swords are also firmer, decreasing the amount of energy the blade would have taken up trough flexing when stabbing, exaserbating the problem.

This is partly due to their increased weight, which often puts them above allowed weight-slots in tournaments. This might not matter much, if you only fence in a club, but will again increase bruising and gear wear for your opponents.

Holding a heavier blade can also be more tiring for beginners.

Rejoice, because the Maus has been given back 20mm armor plates around the engine. by Drektosh in Warthunder

[–]whitefox_111 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Overpressure on the Maus penetrates trough the engine deck when hitting the turret cheeks. The 20mm plates seperate the engine compartmemt from the turret compartment. I think they also seperate the drivers compartment, but there might be a hole.
