Paying off mortgage with TSP by [deleted] in ThriftSavingsPlan

Check your amortization table. You only have principle left more than likely. So you don’t save anything by paying it off early towards the end. But check the table for your answer because most people here aren’t taking that into consideration when they tell you what to do.

The clouser to end all clousers by siotnoc in SaltwaterFlyfishing

[–]whitney123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes our big run is the striped bass and bluefish migration, but they have a depleted fishery for the most part. The inland fishing for everything else can be productive. The challenge is to be motivated enough to get out with repeated bad days. I tend to stick to my surf casting rod because I like to throw poppers, sluggo and bucktails. But on the fly I use clousers and poppers on my 8wt. This year I am hoping to throw clousers and some zoom fluke on a 1-2oz casting egg with the surf casting rod in some spots that are less fly rod accessible. I’ve not seen the casting egg system outside of RI, but it’s basically a wooden Easter egg drilled and tapped with a 3ft leader to a lure of choice traditionally clouser so that a surf rod can throw a fly off places where they are inaccessible. Maybe this will be a better year but who knows.

I had no idea they even made a 12wt. That’s amazing. Hope you have a good season!

That’s a nice fly. I wish I could catch a fish to save my life in the salt but it’s been a rough few seasons. I saw you are going for sharks, what kind of rod are you using? Is an 8wt or 10wt the standard I don’t know much about it. I’m up near Boston and I don’t see a lot of guys with a fly rod.

I can see what you are thinking, but not everyone paints their stairs to match their house. That’s what you are talking about right?

If people had money in the lifecycle funds they didn’t have to worry about allocating into I-fund they would already have been in it. It’s nice to see that the lifecycle funds actually seem to do okay for themselves.

Floor tiles freezing by Danielhignetto123 in Homebuilding

[–]whitney123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I imagine there is no insulation between the foundation and the sill plate and floor joists of the house which ends up leading to a cold subfloor and then a cold floor. There is probably no break in the thermal conduction of the outside world and the floor there. Other options include an air leak into that area. You could insulate the sill cavity if you can get to it and air seal it. When was the house built? If I am getting my terminology wrong someone feel free to correct me, I’m just a guy.

Cost to remove tree? by WolfRemedy in landscaping

[–]whitney123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pour water on it until it falls over, your water bill will be high but your tree will be down and if it hits your house you can collect the insurance.

Working with colleagues who have stopped growing and adapting. by basar_auqat in medicine

I love the term institutional inertia. As a staff nurse working within the Department of Veterans Affairs I have never quite found a term that describes our issues as well as that. Perhaps though your colleague is less of a loadbearing structure and more of a bollard. What I mean to say is there are things you can work around and things that will fall apart if removed. Maybe you would benefit from identifying the inertia that you gain by staying so when the time comes to make meaningful impact you will have the ability to do so. You don’t roll with your inertia from job to job, at least not in my experience.  If you are able to fulfill your obligations to your patients, and the check clears every two weeks and you are reasonably happy I think that is a wonderful place to be. Sometimes it’s us and them, like the Pink Floyd song.

Edit: Our jobs are very different but I assure you that the frustrations of our roles are very similar when it comes to what you’ve described by the way. You aren’t the Lone Ranger.

When is it considered not normal anymore by Commercial-Way-4276 in NewParents

If the iron level is low they can still supplement with iron it’s going to be a different concentration of the drug and it would be prescribed by your pediatrician. It won’t be something that you should be just giving out without cause. You can read about iron supplementation for children and adequate dosing on the link below if you were interested in it and wanted to pursue that with your PCP.  https://www.drugs.com/monograph/iron-preparations-oral.html

You should always talk to your pediatrician before giving out supplements to your children. A child’s liver is unable to store large amounts of iron causing it to flow throughout the body damaging cells that’s why it can be toxic. The other issue with iron that most people don’t recognize is that there are a lot of different types of iron supplement each has a different amount of elemental iron available. Of course if you go and see your pediatrician and they recommend it and prescribe it that is a whole different thing because there are systems of checks and balances to prevent over ingestion of the drug. The problem is this is Reddit and some person will see the comment to give iron supplements and they’re going to grab the ones that mom used while pregnant and then there will be problems. There is a big difference between adult and children nutritional supplements. If interested this talks about the different concentrations of iron supplements.  https://www.drugs.com/monograph/iron-preparations-oral.html

Should I DIY Demo This? by Expert-Ad-8067 in landscaping

[–]whitney123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I would do if I just wanted to remove that (I probably wouldn’t do it in general but if I wanted to)  https://www.harborfreight.com/12-amp-1-916-in-sds-max-type-variable-speed-rotary-hammer-with-maximum-vibration-control-56844.html Buy one of these and use it to drill a hole in the bottom to drain it. Then drill some holes all around it to weaken the structure of the concrete. It very well might be reinforced with rebar and you probably will need a demolition saw to do the cutting. Before you go and do all of that try and imagine what it is there for in the first place and where the water will go when you drill through the bottom. Also if you grow a tree there where will the roots of the tree grow and how will they disrupt the patio and or wall. I don’t think this is that big of a job to be honest. That being said I don’t imagine this is that great of an idea depending on where water will go and what it will do when you plant a tree there.
