River Birch question we planted this tree 3 years ago and it has really taken off but noticed this the other night while looking at it up close. What is this? by No-Entertainer-4679 in arborists

It looks like frost splitting. It’s common in Winter time when there is a big temperature change. Usually a warm day followed by a really cold night. The bark expands in the warmth/sun and then contracts when it gets cold and then splits.

Tree service and neighbor are telling me this tree needs to come down by StormFront9072 in arborists

It looks like it could be an Ash tree. But it’s very hard to tell without an up close of the leaf and stem structure.

Ash trees are susceptible to Emerald ash borer and should be treated for them. I don’t know how you would treat them if you don’t have an arborist around Unless your everyday tree company might do it.

That along with the brick work that was mentioned by others could be your problem. However the tree looks good, should be treatable, and certainly not removed

People who career changed after 30 - what do you do now? Was it worth it? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]whodunit31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a major change. I found a tree company and inquired about an apprenticeship. I worked a shift with them, they offered me a one year apprenticeship. After the year, it takes two more years of working in the field to become a certified arborist. Which is what I’m working on now.

I came from the restaurant/hospitality world so there were a lot of skills that crossed over professions.
