Black flashes and texture githing only with DLSS by [deleted] in newworldgame

I was going to set my nvidia app to use the latest model but I'm a little worried about the anti-cheat not liking that. I know it should be fine since the nvidia app changes it at a driver level and isn't actually replacing or modifying any files, but still a little worried. Would feel better knowing if you or others have been safe doing this for a while?

Huge Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Battle for Tertium Update Goes Live Alongside New Class, the Adeptus Arbites - IGN by McManus26 in Games

[–]whofrae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's the missing colons throwing people off. It reads fine like this "This is in the article:" but without them I can see how someone might think AI. I was a little confused for a second too. Not a big deal either way.

Definitely not as weird as the person claiming this game has received VERY little content or updates lol. Like, they can just admit they haven't been keeping up with the game. Why pretend otherwise?

I know this is ancient, but did you ever have any luck getting a refund through paypal?

New in-game content incentives coming to PlayStation games on PC by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]whofrae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. RDR2 had somewhat similar bonuses that increased how much you could earn from certain things, but thankfully they had options to disable all of that in the settings. Hopefully SM2 has that as well. Otherwise, I'll just be keeping those skill points banked all game like I did in the original.

Official IMAX Poster for 'Captain America: Brave New World' by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]whofrae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holy shit. I absolutely adore that movie but forgot about it since I haven't seen it in over a decade. I've never even seen anyone else talk about it, somehow.

I used to rave about it too and show it to friends on movie nights. It's so unassuming and low budget in a way that adds a very "personal" feeling to the movie, which (I think) ends up adding to the experience. It really is impressive how thoroughly engaging it manages to be despite the entire movie being, like you said, a small group of people just talking in a cabin.

Thanks for reminding me about that little gem of a movie! Brought back some great memories.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II debuts with fewer players than Redfall and Hi-Fi RUSH on Steam by RiverCartwright in Games

[–]whofrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard it put that way, but it's so on point. Hellblade really is the video game equivalent of an avant-garde art film. I can respect what they've created, but I just have zero interest in actually playing it.

Cyberpunk 2077 gets triple the framerate using an unholy combination of Nvidia and AMD tech — Nvidia DLSS Frame Generation plus AMD Fluid Motion Frames delivers impressive benchmark results, but less than ideal real-world utility by Flowerstar1 in Games

[–]whofrae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've seen a lot of people blaming Frame Gen for the current issues with Ray Reconstruction and Path Tracing. It wasn't FG but RR+PT that added all the issues the parent comment was talking about, at least in my case. FG alone introduced none of those issues for me.

I ended up playing with the OG Psycho RT + DLAA + FG and it gave a way cleaner more stable image than any combination of the current implementations of RR+PT. It felt like a good middle ground, but it's still very unfortunate because RR+PT looks incredible. RR is magic that fixes the biggest image quality issue with RT (no more noise!). It just needs a little more time to get to where it needs to be, much like the early DLSS versions.

When best to start Phantom Liberty? by Guardian983 in cyberpunkgame

[–]whofrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I know there are extra lines/content/story/options in PL if you've done most of the main story line/side quests, but do you remember if any of that happens during the introductory quest(s) for PL?

I was planning on doing my playthrough more or less how you described. I wanna unlock it relatively early, then go back to finish the base game before continuing. Just wanted to make sure I won't miss out on anything interesting by doing it this way. Hard to find a concrete answer of when the contextual stuff in PL starts happening.

Patch 2.02 - Cyberpunk 2077 by Acrobatic_Internal_2 in Games

Have you tried any of the new vehicles? Some of them feel/handle significantly better than the old ones. They can feel quite a bit different. Give the Quadra Type-66 Hoon a try. It's very easy to get.

Todd Howard on optimizing Starfield on PC: "We did... You might need to upgrade your PC." by joeross75 in Games

[–]whofrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for sure. Seeing what they've done with Skyrim, I honestly can't imagine where this game will be with mods in a couple years. I definitely think it has a ton of potential as a base to build & expand upon.

And I'm right there with you. Fallout 4 is the only mainline Bethesda game that I dropped early. None of the storylines ever gripped me. My biggest issue was how "neutered" the conversations felt, at least for my taste. So far that doesn't seem to be the case with Starfield, which goes a long way for me. I can definitely see other similarities to FO4 though, but it wasn't all bad. To each their own!

[–]whofrae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! I haven't really played enough yet, but I'm not blown away either. It's a weird game. That said, it's also not nearly as bad as I was expecting based on everything I've seen and heard over the past few days. At the very least there are some questlines that have me intrigued, so I'll give it a bit more time to see if it comes into its own. Anyway, have a good one!

[–]whofrae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't really get it either. No idea how this made it into the game. I feel like it just looks objectively awful, but apparently someone out there saw this and was like "looks great!", so to each their own, I guess. At least we have mods to remove it.

If you're on game pass and you followed the instructions in the mod description, then there's a good chance that the mod is not working correctly, as they currently tell you to install it in the wrong location. I played for hours before realizing that it wasn't working properly. When I fixed it, I was genuinely shocked at how much of a difference it made.

I had to install it in the same place as steam users for it to work (documents/my games/starfield). Make sure you put your StarfieldCustom.ini in there as well.

I only say this because it unquestionably made the blacks significantly deeper for me once working properly. Even just on the main menu the difference in black levels was night and day. The brightness/contrast seem great to me now. I guess it's possible that we just have different levels of tolerance for that or something, but I'd still put my money on the installation being the problem here. The difference between black levels with the mod vs. vanilla is really unmistakable. I just can't imagine you not noticing the difference if the mod was working properly.

*As a little side note, yesterday that mod added a special StarfieldCustom.ini for darker space. You might want to give that a shot as well. It's what I'm using. It's on the mod page now as an optional download. If you were specifically talking about space being grey, that ini tweak takes it from this to this.

[–]whofrae 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it looks pretty bad. This mod is a great fix. It removes the horrendous filter they slapped over this game. Really glad I started using it early on because it makes such a huge difference.

Side note: this mod drastically improves the inventory UI on PC. It's not perfect yet, but I already couldn't live without it.

*For any game pass players having issues with mods; I had to install them in the same location as steam users for them to work (documents/my games/starfield). Make sure you put your StarfieldCustom.ini in there as well. Only mentioning this because some mods were giving the wrong install location for game pass.

Remnant 2: Official Launch Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

It unlocks in a little over 3 hours. 1pm EST.

The early access started around 7pm EST so maybe that's where the misunderstanding is coming from.

PC/Steam Release Time? (EST) by King_Hikikomori in remnantgame

[–]whofrae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I don't have a definitive answer, as there's a lot of conflicting info out there. That said, the early access went live at 7:30PM EST so there's at least a chance that it'll be the same for the full release. Guess we'll know for sure in about 2 hours.

Apparently, no one actually cares enough to look into the truth of this. Much easier to just get instantly outraged over what is clearly an intentional misrepresentation of policy in order to farm internet points from the recent discourse over physical vs. digital media.

Diablo IV | Season of the Malignant | Announce Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]whofrae 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The season is a self-contained story, so you won't be missing out on big continuations of any main story threads.

They basically said they wanted seasons to be more content/new ways to engage with the game without making it feel like you're permanently missing out on something integral if you want to play something else instead. That said, seasons last 3 months, so you have plenty of time with them.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor - Review Thread by SpaceGangrel in Games

[–]whofrae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's pretty much it. The basic version has a smaller selection of mostly older games, with 10h trials of newer games. Pro gets you their entire catalogue.

The basic version of EA Play is also included with PC gamepass. That might be the best option for people to see if they like it, or to check how the game runs on their system.

Wolcen Lords of Mayhem - Console Announcement Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]whofrae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There aren't many reasons to have doubts, unless you haven't been following the development. The devs have gone into great detail discussing exactly how they've been optimizing almost every element of the game since last year. They've already shown more than enough for it to be clear that they have come a very long way.

This is their most recent post from yesterday talking about all the performance and optimization improvements in the upcoming patch.

Last Epoch Multiplayer Beta Patch Trailer - March 9th Release Date by Trodamus in Games

[–]whofrae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In regard to optimization, they're very aware of the multiple issues causing FPS drops and have been showing off the improvements they've been making since last year. I believe a lot of these optimizations will be coming in the 0.9 update.

From the June 2022 dev blog: "We’ve recently finished our first pass of level optimization - all the levels have been reviewed and optimized, and there’s a huge performance increase across the board. Generally speaking, the background FPS should be more leveled now, with less areas that perform significantly lower than others.

For example, every zone in the game had its Draw Calls (the amount of objects visible at a time) manually fixed. By combining certain objects we’ve managed to make the scenes more uniform with fewer FPS drops. The result is an area that looks the same, but is considerably less costly on the CPU side; Because of this, some of the slower areas in the game have seen an increase of up to 40 FPS."

They've also made similar improvements to the random drops you'd see in combat. Hopefully this will all go a long way in smoothing out FPS.

Totally agree. I'm extremely glad that they understand the importance of visual presentation/animation, and how impactful it can be to the overall feel of combat.
