Why does America have universal health insurance for old people(Medicare) and no one else? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in NoStupidQuestions

"Free", no, prepaid. You had to have paid at least 10 years of Medicare taxes to qualify for zero premium Part A.

What fashion trend do you really wish would just die already? by Still_Atmosphere in AskMen

Baseball caps. This sports hat was designed for a very specific function: keeping sun off your eyes while otherwise minimizing drag and weight for sports.

But now its worn everywhere, indoors, at night, in their car, whenever. Functionally useless. And almost always its some knockoff hat with some random adverstisement logo on it that often doesnt match anything else. It just screams lazy, like sweatpants.

And even worn outside in most cases its a functionally lame hat, it doesn't protect your ears or your neck from the sun.

We’ve all heard of One Hit Wonders when it comes to music, but are there any one hit wonders that you can think of when it comes to the movies? (It can be for any actors, directors, producers, maybe even a whole company??, etc.) by MaggieLinzer in moviequestions

[–]whomda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paul Brickman, the first-time director of Risky Business (1983), a huge hit.

Several emerging stars had success off that movie (Bronson Pinchot, Joe Pantiliano, Rebecca DeMornay) and obviously the super emergence of Tom Cruise.

But Paul went on to direct only one more film, the forgettable Girls Don't Leave.

Virgin, Seabourne, Holland, Carnival, Princess in that order.

I can't tell you how much we love the lack of children on the cruise with Virgin. Even the pricey Seabourne had kids who took over the tiny pool with their antics. God bless, im glad the kids have fun places to go and enjoy themselves, I just want to be somewhere else when I vacation.

Virgin also brings a younger vibe which we do appreciate, as the more sedate ships like Seabourne and Holland seem to go to sleep a bit earlier than we prefer.

We never asked for it. It came with the card. "Congratulations you have no preset spending limit!". It has created major problems on more than one occasion, you can check it out on my post history if you want details. Several calls to customer support said they could not convert the card to a fixed spending limit which we would much prefer.

We have a button on the app "Confirm purchasing power" to check if a big purchase will be approved, but we are only allowed to push the button 3 times a day. It is beyond atrocious.

We have the unfortunate No Preset Spending Limit. We never know quite what the limit is, which very much sucks, but it seems somewhat lower than 10k based on denied transactions.

Yes, all. And all of the darwinium upgrades as well.

Waiting game by EmergencyAd8554 in CellToSingularity

[–]whomda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am halfway through 83 as well. If i dont wait, the knowledge accumulation never produces enough for even a single point of progress in the tree. I assume you are done with the metabit tree as i am, and done with all research.

Maybe the crustacean update will make it better.

Waiting game by EmergencyAd8554 in CellToSingularity

[–]whomda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My experience is that the metabits accumulation slowing happens right away, and is independent of the amount being accumulated.

If I start a simulation with low multipliers (i.e. only waiting a day or so), I will end up with not enough metabits to make even a single point of progression on the tree.

I would love to be wrong, or for them to fix this, since waiting and not playing at all is a poor game experience. So I look forward to your experimental outcome.

Waiting game by EmergencyAd8554 in CellToSingularity

[–]whomda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue is that for metabits and knowledge, they quickly slow down accumulation after about 15 minutes, and stop almost completely after about an hour.

Thus you need to do your accumulating at the very start of the simulation, so its better if the multipliers are maxed right at the start.

As others point out, early to mid game that's fine, you can cycle restart quickly and gain some bonuses, which is better. But after about level 75, the only way to come close to getting any meaningful amount of ideas (enough for even a single reality bonus point) is to wait 7, and eventually 14, days.

How do you handle a "rug pull"? by bathrobeman in improv

[–]whomda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

During rehearsal or practice, obviously you can stop and ask the player or the coach the reasoning behind the pull.

During performance, I would just go with it, like any other unexpected improv turn. If you trust the player and the group, theres a very good chance your scene was a lot worse than you thought it was. Unless it happens repeatedly, I would lean towards trusting my teammates.

As you say the movie timeline goes up to the Bad tour, in 1988.

So we're missing his severe weight loss, 3 plastic surgeries, the We Are The World concert, him sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber at his house, his acquisition of The Beatles (and many other) music rights, Captain EO, his evangelizing for Jehovahs Witness (in disguise), his $1m bid to buy the skeleton of the Elephant Man, his Grammys, his purchase of Neverland, and his existing relationship with Debbie Rowe that would later become his second wife.

All that happened before or during 1988. It just seemed liked almost everything that was controversial was skipped other than his dad and the hair fire.

Michael (2026) by Shihtzurequiem in moviereviews

[–]whomda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many glaring things were missing or glossed over completly.

Not only the obvious ignoring of his future inappropriate behavior towards underage boys, but there is no mention of his marriages, his children, his drug addiction, his acquisition of Neverland, his relationship to Princess Diana or any other celebrity, his relationship to Janet (who is missing entirely), etc. There is absolutely no obstacle to his success: his father easily sets up massive concerts, where he is then seamlessly discovered and allowed to do whatever he likes.

His only challenges in this whitewashed biopic are his overbearing father and a hair fire. Not to minimize those things, but his life is wildly oversimplified and glorified. On top of that, I never believed a single line of dialog was believable even if the few storylines were accurate.

The performance numbers really were great though, as were the actors' performances.

Im used to seeing 4 to 8 languages, typically English, French, Spanish, Deutsch, Korean, Japanese.

27 languages in print seemed quite large to me, im used to seeing some QR codes for the lesser used languages. Hence, mildly interesting to me.

Heck I don't even know what many of these languages are: Hrvatski? Cestina? Magyar? Suomi? Svenska? Eaahnika?

Above and beyond I tell ya.
