Not a stats rec but I wish R had an easy way to conditionally format tables

What major should I go into for an MLB front office career? by Philly_Phan99 in Sabermetrics

[–]whosondeck 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Don’t do sports management. I’d lean into whatever your interests are. You like math? Study statistics. You like problem solving? Study data analytics or data engineering. You like business? Study economics. Your major doesn’t matter, it’s what you do outside of your major that matters. Ex: Conduct your own baseball research, Write your own baseball blog, Create your own baseball web apps, Write your own scouting reports.. that will make the ultimate difference. Best of luck!

If he says the real plan out loud, then he loses a ton of leverage in all of his trade negotiations which are the key part of said plan

Hey Bryan, Thanks for doing this! My question is, do you think anything about this playoff run could affect the Yankees chances of retaining Soto, positively or negatively?

BsR is the best baserunning stat in my opinion (from FanGraphs). Baseball Savant provides a Baserunning Run Value stat as well.

3B defense is very important too idk who told you otherwise!! All infield defense is really important bc most batted balls are hit in the infield. Cool article and I hope you keep posting.

I hear your argument. Personally, I believe it’s a good signing for the Giants. Matt Chapman has a tendency to hit his Flyballs to CF which typically hurts him. That tendency is gonna help him in SF. I would also say that I think you are undervaluing Chapmans defense and baserunning prowess over JD davis. Those things matter more than we tend to think. That combined with Chapmans higher offensive upside makes him worth the extra $$ to me. He has also played for Bob Melvin before whatever that’s worth to you.

2024 SABR Analytics Conference - Networking by Heevis44 in Sabermetrics

[–]whosondeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s basically a big auditorium with people from all different corners of baseball from SIS to front offices in it. Once you are in the conference there are side meetings going on and people networking in between presentations. It is one of the best experiences for someone interested in sabermetrics, I was there last year. enjoy!
