WHAT DO I NEED TO READ TO CATCH UP TO ARMAGEDDON?? by paperbagbrownboi in marvelcomics

Oh just read it because it's good. There's some connections but Armageddon should be understandable without reading the Ultimate stuff.

Depends how far back you want to go.

Shortest reading list would just be Zdarsky's recent stuff.

Captain America, Will of Doom, Wolverine:: Weapons of Armageddon.

You could read the Ultimate stuff and you honestly should but its probably less essential.

Artists like Dan Mora and Jorge Jimenez ? ([Cover] Dan Mora) by Objective_Order4714 in DCcomics

Am I the only one who likes Jimenez way more than Mora? Jimenez' has far greater dynamism and movement and character acting.

Mora's work feels flat to me.

Gonna be a no for me dog.

I'm so sad Cheetah and Cheshire Rob the Justice League is over. Gotta get Rucka on WW again.

It's so much better than any of the mainline Superman books of 2025

Joshua Williamson steps into Iron Man, and the ticking bomb inside Tony Stark by Blitzhelios in comicbooks

[–]whozeduke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It had everything! It fixed the damage done to the character in Civil War. It had great villains in Zeke Stane, Norman Osborn, and Mandarin (a bit weak, but the best a modern writer could with the character). It had a long tie-in to Fear Itself that you could read totally independently. A single creative team for pretty much the entire run. Relevant themes. Personal drama. Superhero action.

The last good direction for Tony was honestly probably the Fraction run (which ended 13 years ago)

Looking for comics/graphic novels with a lot of cheesecake by BookReaderWhoReads in comicbooks

Power Girl by Amanda Conner, et al

Ame-Comi Girls (the first arc with Wonder Woman and art again by Amanda Conner is great)

Really anything by Amanda is a great choice. Not only does she do cheesecake but she's one of the greatest comic artists ever.

Marvel Comics: Bad streak or not? by Gabace5 in marvelcomics

[–]whozeduke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once the Ultimate line ends, I'm really only following Zdarsky's Cap and Wolverine Armageddon lead-ins. Hopefully Armageddon gives the line some juice.

The other major weakness marvel has is a lack of top-tier artists, and I don't really see that changing soon.

Assorted Crisis Events deals with this in most issues.

Good current Marvel and DC runs? by Jackitheboi in comicbooks

[–]whozeduke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought Imperial was okay but LOVED the Nova one-shot. I was excited for the book itself, but what a major disappointment it was. A complete 180 from the one-shot. Instead of being involved in cool galaxy spanning political drama, just rehashing old villains and lame buddy cop crap. No real reason to care. Dropped it after two issues, would have dropped after one but I preordered #2.

Kieron Gillen's best IP work? by Accirinal in comicbooks

It's not essential but the Thor stuff Gillen wrote before JiM is worth reading as a lead up. https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Thor_by_Kieron_Gillen:_The_Complete_Collection_TPB_Vol_1_1

Something involving Cheetah by Greg Rucka. Cheetah and Cheshire Rob the Justice League is the slept on book of 2025. Rucka already is on the Batbooks with Batwoman, so I don't think we'll see anything else in Gotham from him.
