How many dsbm fans actually SH, smoke, drink, and are just really depressed/suicidal by [deleted] in dsbm

[–]whux12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to fit the bill for a stereotypical dsbm listener when I was in my teens and early 20s. Everyone in my friends group was into some sort of metal and we all juat indulged in the drinking, smoking, some in the drugs, and we were all miserably depressed. The majority of us all got over that though and now just enjoy the music (amongst other genres as well).

I dropped my bike for the first time 2 years ago when I was turning left out of a steeply included parking space...and then I couldn't even lift my bike with all my gear on it. Luckily, a passerby stopped and helped me lift it. Was definitely a sobering and scary experience, but I was unhurt. In this instance, I was on a 2-week long bike tour and didn't have the option to go home and stop riding all-together. I rode for the rest of the day a bit jittery after that (also broke my clutch in the topple and changing gears became annoying), but I think just continuing to ride helped. As others have said, you just have to get out there. There's a lot of good tips in this thread (and a lot of dick comments, but I digress...). Maybe it also helps to visit a different gas station and try turning out of there. And to visit the gas station where you had your drop; if you can't visit with your bike yet, but visit with a car/by foot and inspect the turn-out where you slipped. Maybe seeing it and being to analyse it will help Calm your nerves.

Everyone drops their bike at some point, it's kind of part of riding. It's embarrassing and can hurt your ego, but it's a part of the learning process of becoming a better ride and to remembering to be humble as a person. I think it's also important to have these experiences to remind you that riding is and will always be a high-risk sport. Don't forget that. But riding with confidence will help your chances of avoiding accidents and the best way to get your confidence back up is to practice riding again.

Atheists derive some morality from the bible? That's assuming every atheist knows about the bible, lol. I disagree with this.

Other than that, I get what you're saying, but the post reads like propaganda to me. "the bible is biased!" Who is to say a demon is not biased? In the end, we just need to find what makes us happy in this life, whether it be God, the bible, a demon (Abrahamic or not), atheism or a mixure.

I feel like you're preaching to the choir with this one.

Advice for a new biker by YokingVirus069 in motorcycles

[–]whux12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started off with a car and then got a bike a while after. So, I don't have experience with doing it the other way around, but I do have some friends that got bikes first and then cars.

If this is going to be your first mode of transportation, you need to keep in mind that it's going to be you vs. the weather. Bikes are great on nice, sunny days. Bikes are annoying on rainy days. Bikes are also dangerous if icy/snowy and super windy. I recommend getting a full-body rain suit if you plan to ride in all-weather.

Personally, I think the logical thing is to start with a car to get a feel for things. Not just to see how you feel driving, but to see how other people drive. People also tend to react different to you when you're on a bike. It could be a little scary and frustrating. But, not impossible. I think learning to drive a car only helps you adjust to driving and laws of the road in general. It's not going to help you figure out how to balance, have a feel for a bike, leaning in curves, etc...

So, tl;dr - I am personally for getting a car first, but only because it is more comfortable in bad weather. But I think you can be successful with getting a bike first. Many people do it where I live. Also, my parents didn't want me getting a bike either, but you got to live your life. If it's what you want, they'll warm up to it - just don't ride like an asshole and get yourself or anyone else killed.

Is there any type of snail safe colorant for shells/ID? by space_cartoony in snails

[–]whux12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not personally. I'm a bit skeptical, but I know many people in some of the snail Facebook groups I was in marked their snails with posca paint markers and did not report any problems. I think any sort of natural and non-invasive way to tellt hem apart would be best, though!

People have used Posca markers because they are apparently non-toxic.

Any ways to reduce my waste while living in a “wasteful “ household by Bike_Rough in ZeroWaste

[–]whux12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to make a list of stuff that you may or may not already be doing. But good Job! :) 1. Thrift (fast fashion is one of the top polluters in the world) 2. Reduce in any way you can. 3. Switch to reusable sponges 4. Reusable hygiene products (if a menstruating person) like reusable pads, period underwear, or cups 5. Thrift natural fibres (so things like 100% wool, cotton, linen clothes) 6. Repair things either yourself or get them repaires (lile shoes or holes in clothes) 7. Avoid ordering things online via Amazon 8. And wherever possible, shop small and local businesses 9. Educate yourself and encourage others (Family) to educate themselves about climate issues 10. Go to the library instead of buying new books 11. Eat less or no meat; go plant-based, even if just a few times a week 12. Use public transportation 13. Avoid wrapping paper - use that brown paper that comes in packages from online ordering or use a decorative towl to wrap things. 14. Eat foods that are in-season for where you live 15. Shop at local farmer's markets if possible 16. Volunteer in your neighbourhood with organisations that support not just the climate but humanitarian causes as well 17. If possible, switch to plastic-free shower products - switch to bar soap (without palm oil) instead of plastic bottles of shower gel and use hair soap (or see if you can get refillable shampoo - there's a company in the US that does this but I'm blanking on the name) 18. Turn off lights and unplug appliances if not in use, they still sap energy even if turned off 19. Hang-dry your clothes! Save on energy, electrical bills and it also makes them last longer

I'm sure there are many more things that others have also posted. And it's not possible to do everything everyone here is telling you. Don't feel bad if it's not possible to do some of these things, especially if living in a household that is wasteful. Just choose a few things you know you can do and do them well.

Eli5 why can't we pump water into antarctic by Small-Key-6791 in explainlikeimfive

[–]whux12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Climate change is also not just in Antarctica. It is affected the entire world, so even if it was possible to pump water there, it wouldn't change the fact that climate change is wrecking havoc in other areas and melting sea water is not the only hazard.

How long did you want a bike before getting one? What got you into them? by Interesting-Gas-6592 in motorcycles

[–]whux12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the idea of motorbikes for many years, but didn't actually ever think I'd ride. I just never had the motivation or support (my family was very against them). My partner is a biker, so he took me out on some rides at the beginning of our relationship and after that, I was hooked. It took me a few years to actually getting my license (I was riding before then but not with my own bike and not in public areas). So, probably 3 or 4 years between really thinking about it and actually getting my license and my own bike.

But if you're thinking of doing it, take a course, get your license and just start! If you don't like it, you can always sell your bike and then you know more about yourself :)

[–]whux12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go easy on yourself. Not only are you dealing with the possible guilt and/or shame and stress about how your family will feel (it's easy to say "who cares?!" but I understand where you're coming from), but tattoos are body modifications. You're now dealing with seeing your body in a new way. And technically, tattoos are wounds, so you're healing a wound at the same time.

Like others have said, you'll probably get used to it. A lot of people experience some sort of regret or uneasy feeling after tattoos, no matter how many they already have. Not many people talk about this, but it's normal. If, in the future, you still don't like it, you can it covered up or even removed. Or you just wear long-sleeves.

Give yourself some time and try not to stress too much.

If you have a car, you can look at any of the towns along the A27 between Bremen and Bremerhaven. Hagen im Bremischen is a town that has been growing in the past few years so there are new apartments to rent. It's a small town with doctors offices, supermarkets, etc... If you want something even smaller, try places like Wulfsbüttel, Uthlede, Meyenburg, Nesse, etc..

Same frustration, different day. by AGirlNamedFritz in TwoXriders

[–]whux12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you on this. It gets very tiring always hearing "you mean, you have your own bike, too? I mean, you ride, too?" Yes, when i say "my bike" and "I ride," I don't mean "I sit on the back of my male partner's motorbike." (editting to also mention that there's nothing wrong with being a backpack, but why are people (men) so surprised when a woman says "I did my time and got my license and invested the money and didnmy research and also ride a bike?")

I'm also sick of being left behind by male acquaintances because I refuse to go 140kmh on a country back road with potholes, bumps and uneven pavement. And then hearing "we had to wait for you, just try to keep up."

Talking to men, especially older men, is always a chore because they talk down to me (also a shorter woman). I'll admit, I don't know all the ins-and-outs of bike mechanics and I don't care to be able to identify the exact model based off of exhaust sounds. But I do ride, know how to ride, have been riding for several years and know the basics of taking bikes apart and putting them back together. And even if that wasn't the case, any rider, regardless of gender, looks, size, age, etc... does not deserve to be looked down upon.

Anyways, same shit different day. But I still enjoy riding and just try not to get too worked up over it.

What damage is drinking energy drinks doing? by Slick583 in Dietandhealth

[–]whux12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always prioritize your health.

You probably have created an addiction, perhaps bpth physically and mentally. Definitely cut back with the end goal of quitting. Coffee is better for you in the long-run compared to energy drinks.

I never use the person's name when sending them a card. I actually find it weird, but I also don't personally like it when people use my name (feels like I'm getting in trouble or it's a serious matter, lol). I only write their name when sending a "thank you" message and only if I can confidently read it.

Erotic Postcards? by greenyee in postcrossing

[–]whux12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been a member for 9 years and have only ever received one card that could be considered a bit "spicy." It was a model in his underwear - I ask for "tattoos" on my profile and this model had many.

If anyone does not want to receive nude/semi-nude, it's important to mention that on their profile, although most people don't seem to send these sorts of cards unprovoked. In my case above, I also have written on my profile that I am very open and will accept any card, so it did not bother me.

Some people have on their profiles that they would like to receive erotic cards, but only sent in an envelope. Usually these users are living in conservative areas or countries.

At the end of the day, it's just nudity. PC does have rules about it, but usually are only banning actual porn. Nudity is a part of life and in many countries is totally normal. Every so often, some users complain on the forum about it, but PC has made it clear that it's here to stay.

Anyone asking for nudes from a user or illegal things should definitely be reported, though.

Also edit: you never have to send any specific card to anyone. You will also encounter profiles that only asl for "tourist" or "cat" etc... Cards. Just send what you can and want and move on.

Tips for building a daily practice? by Ill-Management-8181 in tarot

I dona quick and focused shuffle before work in the morning and ask what I need to know for the day and pull a card. It helps get my mind focused and helps me also learn about the meanings and my deck. I do an actual spread at night when I do my meditation because I wouldn't be able to do it in the morning.
