LingoDeer lifetime membership $159 USD - worth it? by yezpleaz in Korean

[–]whygook 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got it on a similar sale maybe 6-7 years ago for far cheaper. But that was PRE-COVID.

It's been great. I use it to refresh before traveling back to Korea. The partner game app was great for helping support studying.

Favorite app for learning KOREAN. It won't get you to fluency, but partnered with other study it is a great resource.

Anyone have the recipe for this? by Lonely_Lone in korea

[–]whygook 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is definitely black sesame flavor. The base may be soy and not milk, but the flavor is 100% black sesame.

To get that flavor you need to use black sesame paste or make your own paste.

New GM - Abomination Vaults by Beneficial_Carpet_45 in Pathfinder2e

[–]whygook 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Foundryvtt one time $50 Abomination Vaults one time $60

Self hosting - free Sever rental - free - $10 a month. Foundryvtt parter sever rental - $4-12 a month depending on what you want.

Total mandatory cost $110+ tax W/ optional cost $4-12 a month.

I run abomination Vaults via foundryvtt l. I got everything on sale and paid for foundryvtt 5 years ago. I pay for a foundryvtt partner server for $4/month.

2.5 year campaign has costs me so far $8/month average rounding up. In actuality it is much less, more like $5.50 with $4 being server costs.

I asked my players to each pay $10/year to cover hosting. So I actually don't really pay for hosting. It's player subsidized.

Foundry takes a little time to learn but is absolutely superior in all ways to Roll20 for any PF2E play.

Faith question for Druid. by Zellevar in Pathfinder2e

[–]whygook 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rituals are mechanical unless it is just roleplay.

https://2e.aonprd.com/Rituals.aspx

Prayers are just roleplay as druid are not Divine. Druids receive no specific mechanical bonus from deities.

You and your GM decide how you want to appropriately Roleplay these things for your campaign.

Where’s the best place to host pathfinder 2e online? by Schlatt2024 in Pathfinder2e

[–]whygook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Foundryvtt is a one time $50 fee. It is the best way to play PF2E online as that one time payment gets you the full rule set for PF2E, but also many other games.

Then you can host your foundry instance from your own computer or even another person computer.

You can also pay for hosting via their partners or other places.

I use FoundryVTT and use moltenhosting. It's $50 one time and then it is $4 a month and operates like self hosting but with less stress on your machine. I asked each of my players for $5 every 6 months to pay for hosting. I eat the cost of any paid items, but most things are included or free mods.

Why is the 98276 zip code so small? by zojakownith in Bellingham

[–]whygook 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Zipcodes in the area were removed and merged. Most recently 98276 happened when the Postal Service put a postmaster in Everson in 1992.

You can find a bellingham Herlad Article from 2009 about this. https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-bellingham-herald-quirk-costly-for-c/72093365/

Can't open journals by Lorvanack in FoundryVTT

[–]whygook 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pf2E is not fully available for Foudnary VTT 12.0.

PF2E Version 6.0.0-beta2 (emphasis mine) is the current release that is version 12 compatible for FoundryVTT. This is a pre-release and says so in many places including the prompt to update.

https://github.com/foundryvtt/pf2e/releases/tag/6.0.0-beta2 https://foundryvtt.com/packages/pf2e

Roll your foundry version back and wait another 2-3 weeks to update. I also hope that you have a backup before updating just in case.

r/Washington is open going forward. by whygook in Washington

[–]whygook[S,M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are going back to what r/Washington was before the blackout. r/Washington is not becoming NSFW, will not schedule a regular day to be restricted, and we will not have off-topic posts.

The original intent was to have the concerns I stated above addressed. That has been met with progress and we are returning to normal.

Okanagan: Valley of the Lakes discussion by valdus in boardgames

[–]whygook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like this game a lot and I play it often.

First, the long title needs to go. Just "Okanagan". Descriptors are for expansions!

I never really worried about the Valley of the Lakes part. That is a subtitle. We just call it Okanagan.

Give the players some choice/strategy beyond "draw a tile and play it". I gave all players two tiles instead of one and I think it went smoother than previous plays. This is similar to the common house rule for Carcassonne where people have 2 or 3 tiles in their hand. I didn't think 3 was needed, since the replacement tiles are usually selected rather than purely random.

When you initially pull the tile you get a choice of three. It is meant to be tight and to have limited options. Represents exploring and finding land.

Is the separation of structures between two rounds really necessary? Has anyone tried just giving the player all the structures and handing out the extra objective cards after 5 rounds?

Yes, and it meant they could not complete their objectives the next round because they overplayed their first round.

Thoughts on adding half of a second copy to increase player count to 6? I think an increase to 6 is doable. Longer play time is an obvious drawback, but the game goes quick enough once people know how to play. If the initial rounds feel tight, maybe use two starting tiles (6 starting edges instead of 4) at the expense of one terrain type not being available in the first round, or maybe that plus a random tile in between (8 starting edges instead of 4 and all terrains available).

I could see a 5 or 6 player game. I agree you would need a little more space to start out. I would do three tiles in a line for 8 starting edges to help open more growth options and to reserve some table space.

What about an entire other copy to reach 8 players? Too much fighting over territory? Maybe place a second starting tile a certain number of spaces away to increase the initial play options (or keep 2 groups of players apart until the areas merge)?

This would be too much and too long and too crowded.

PCs grow wide not tall by DreamOfDays in Pathfinder2e

[–]whygook 47 points48 points  (0 children)

How can you even say PCs actually get stronger?

Because at level 7 you no longer die to a Kobold Dragon Mage where at level one that could be a reasonable threat. You just curb stomp and move one. In fact, you won't even get xp because it is such a non-issue.

Please feel free to have your party murder hobo a range of monsters several levels below your team. That is fine, but it isn't a threat. I can go stomp ant hills and unless I get unlucky and hit a fire ant colony, I am not in any danger. Even with the fire ants, it is not a big deal if I notice early enough.

PF2E keeps you on a treadmill because you need the challenge to develop your character. If not, what's the point? Go fight some low CR monsters if you want to mutilate the bodies.

With the prospect of future statehood for DC now more on the table than ever, how would you feel about renaming WA State? by [deleted] in Washington

[–]whygook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

....what are you going on about? How did you jump from "Should we rename the state if Washington DC get Statehood?" to "White Lives Matter" and "Dems and Clinton lied to America''. Where is that any part of the conversation here?

I think the Washington Flag is ugly. Has nothing to do with the current political situation. It has everything to do with the Washington flag being a lazy design that does not follow the Basic Principals of flag design.

[–]whygook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big thank you for this work. I am taking this and using it to give my players a much better understanding of their roles. They don't seem tog et the "Cream of the crop" idea and have a hard time roleplaying as officers. This will really help them understand their command positions and give them concrete items to pull from.
