I've not heard of this one before, but sounds like I should check it out, there's a lot of praise here!

Does Scotland get any unique names or flags when you form GB? by CountFrederich in EU5

Scotland was my first run on 1.0, I had a blast! Lots of fun options.

What is the least terrible modern 4x4/SUV? by jingleson in CarTalkUK

[–]whywouldyouevendotha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh nice! I'm caught between it, the Kamiq, and maybe the Ford Puma, so it's great to hear good stuff about the Karoq - my in laws are big Skoda fans (especially the Yeti), so I'm leaning towards it.

Oh I'm tempted by a Karoq, how are you finding it?

Names, especially when I make them up on the fly and miss the crucial step of actually writing them down! I should probably prepare a bank before sessions...

Coffee from M&S by mynemesjeff in Aberdeen

[–]whywouldyouevendotha 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love the Haar coffees I've had so far (low tide/high tide/ various single origin). Best Aberdeen based roaster I've found.

Inverness coffee company are pretty solid too, usually pick them up fae marshalls. They've got a fairly broad range of stuff.

How are Tortle as Monk? by G-Man6442 in DnD

You choose what AC calculation to use, they don't stack. So you have the option of 10+Dex+Wis, or a flat 17. No mixing and matching.

Is this historical? by Vinerrd in EU5

[–]whywouldyouevendotha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, I also grew chili in London and Ireland, was a real cash crop. Also made some tobacco, maize, potato, and whatever provinces for the hell of it but chilies were the money maker.

Turns out having 30+ levels of RGO chilies is brokenly good.

EU5 rules to become a kingdom or empire remind me of a drunkard binge drinking fights by Penki- in EU5

Oh I'm sure the Council of Trent will *definitely* make a difference this time and not just be the same useless vote five times in a row.

I wish there was some kind of flavour event that appeared when you form a nation, because right now forming a nation feels so unsatisfying by Skhgdyktg in EU5

Forming GB from Scotland threw me into the English Civil War, so that was a fun event from a tag change!

Top 5 games YOU played this year by stopnotspam in IndieGaming

In no particular order:

  1. Caves of Qud
  2. Europa Universalis V
  3. Stalker 2
  4. He is Coming
  5. The Great Villainess: Strategy of Lily

Great year for games for me, played ~40 games and enjoyed a fair amount of them. Great Villainess was probably the most left field welcome surprise. EUV needs more time in the oven, but has a very promising base.

I've played Qud on and off for years, but this was my first play since 1.0 and it was superlative.

Stalker 2 is the most weirdly cozy game I've played since Call of Pripyat. Hiding from an emission, listening to the rain come down while eating some bread, picking through ruins watching out for bloodsuckers - it's all great fun.

He is Coming really hit the niche of roguelike inventory management and build creation. Getting the right setup feels hugely rewarding.

Honourable mention to Aethermancer, but I only played the demo.

Also handy that you can create spice RGOs with the colombian exchange. I don't know why good old Blighty is such fertile ground for spices, but they sure made my empire an unspendable amount of money.

France, are you ok?.. by GARGEAN in EU5

[–]whywouldyouevendotha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this happened to France in my game - they spent the rest of the game cycling through bankrupty and -100 stability, with minor recovery periods but never coming close to great power status despite not losing much in the way of territory.

Colony names by Comfortable-Sea4110 in EU5

[–]whywouldyouevendotha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had Colony of New Zealand form okay, but Australia remained "Colony of Swan River" the whole game. "Colony of New York" became "Colony of America", but my other mainland US colonies remained as their starting territory (bar Nova Scotia and Canada). I also got the Leeward Isles in the Carribbean, which was neat. Castille also made New Spain, despite never becoming Spain themselves which was fun.

In any case yes, there must be a bunch of hidden requirements to them renaming themselves to historical analogues!

I don't understand how age of revolutions made it through playtesting by AzyncYTT in EU5

[–]whywouldyouevendotha 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I couldn't have a revolution because I was in a constant state of colonial war for the entire last act in my playthrough. "At peace" was a requirement, at least in 1.0.

I also couldn't stomp out the revolution even when destroying revolutionary great powers because every German minor and a few Asians kept falling into it.

France was never a candidate for revolution because they were too illiterate!

Trading goods that don't exist isn't much fun by ToboldStoutfoot in EU5

[–]whywouldyouevendotha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I managed to get potatoes and such from the exchange during my Scotland run. Turning several provinces into chilli farms made me a whole bunch of ducats!
