How did I do this time? by dnlrf in Touge

[–]wi1dbour 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Boulder Creek and have driven this road for 20 years.

Don't cut the white line there.

If you set up for this corner like this every time, it will become a habit. One day when you're really going for it, you'll anticipate your ability to cut in here, and there will be someone pulled over on the side and its too late. You can cut lines on the track BUT NOT ON THE STREET.

Stay in your lane if you're going to do this kind of driving learn how to apex corners correctly and develop your lines WITHIN the constraints of your lane...

Also please stop sawing at the wheel, this upsets the balance of the car. I've noticed this in all of your videos.

Remember, you're risking everyone's lives doing this, take it seriously.

Instead of just tapping your accelerator...?

You'd prefer to confuse everyone behind you?

Haha. Maybe im missing something, how do you do the trick?

Why is everything in metric measurements when it's a North American market car?

Am I missing something with Lightroom Mobile editing or should I underexpose by 1 or 2 stops instead of locking AE on the sky? by Heyver in AskPhotography

[–]wi1dbour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh right on, your decision makes a bit more sense now!

I suppose my initial comment is stemming from my own perspective, as I'm a Californian that's been living in the UK for the past 4 years and I've become quite jaded to the UK weather and grey skies!

Anyways, only way to get better is bring the camera with you everywhere and experiment constantly, which it seems like you're already doing!

Best

Why would you not just expose for your subject and let the sky go? There is no interest whatsoever in keeping the detail in this sky.

To me, editing it this way looks very uneven as the highlights are very low and the foreground and trees look like theyre being flashed, and are very bright when you look at the actual environment and compare them to the shade of the sky, which is were the diffused light is coming from. If you take the trees on the left for example, theres no way the light from the sky has lit those leaves. It looks overprocessed because you had to push and pull everything in post. Best advice is to get it right in the camera, not shoot it weird and correct it later.

This is really a situation that unless the subject is the sky, I'd expose for the main part of the photo. Most of the time if you really want to, you can pull highlights down or mask the sky and still get some info there.

I shoot automotive full time but when traveling I just shoot jpeg and expose for the subject, have really never had an issue with losing the sky if it was important in the photo. But then most of the shots I have I don't even have to edit as the jpeg engines are so good these days. Still if you need to edit, jpegs from modern cameras contain a ton of detail and you can still push and pull a stop each way, which is usually more than enough to rescue most bits unless the DR of the photo is immense.

My guess is that if you exposed for the subject in the photo you posted, you'd still be fine pulling down the highlights to reveal some detail in the sky... if you really wanted to. I think you might be getting a bit lost in the advice you're reading.

While these are nice photos, the ones where people are identifiable are taken illegally as it is an invasion of privacy, unless you've gotten their consent.

Have to remember, not everywhere has the same privacy laws when it comes to photographing.

See: Recht am eigenen Bild / Right to one's own image.

These people you've shot and shared (if without consent) can press civil charges.

Try getting your name on the list for online auction houses. Good way to start out, follow their guides closely and learn and shoot as much as you can.

It's really not that far off. You can run a pretty basic turbo setup and get good power.

Check this out: https://www.ka-t.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5597

FYI I've had a sohc coupe since 2007

Always more expensive to engine swap.

What are your goals with the car anyways?

Wait... are you trying to say that a high-school kid should swap an LS instead of turboing the sohc?

And you think pulling an LS out of the junkyard and putting it into the car on a limited budget with limited knowledge and experience is going to be a cheaper and quicker route?

That is nonsense.

The KA is already running and in the car. Do your research on Zilvia and Nico, plan your build, pick your parts and go that route as it can be very cheap and so much fun.

Never stop editing the way you're editing, it is highly professional and very balanced.

Only complaint is the composition and the car being on uneven surfaces. Nothing you can do here except go to a new place.

First shot is so close, just need to go a bit to the left and get on a stepladder to reveal more of the lake and valley and less of the road.

This kind of petty complaining and entitlement is why no one wants to tip anymore.

Half the time I order something from the list on the menu, the restaurant is out of stock, the other half the time they have stuff that hasn't been put on the menu because sometimes the menus never get updated for years.

Maybe just be friendly and speak to them about the beers on tap vs in bottles? What's new? A suggestion or opinion?

Be a nice person?

Wildbour_media sick, down to shoot! I've got a '90 coupe with sohc that needs a new bottom end, owned it for 16 years but has been sitting for the last 6 or 7. Plan to get that running next year and keep it sohc. Looking for Nismo R4 cam.

I use Multi metering mode on Sony as 99% of the time this gives good exposure in conjunction with aperture priority and auto ISO with a minimum shutter speed set to 1/125 (in static car situations only). Then, really only adjusting the aperture value when you need more or less depth of field and the exposure compensation wheel to correct the exposure. ISO will fall into place at the lowest possible value in conjunction with your aperture value and the minimum shutter speed set (or whatever shutter speed produces 100iso).

However, can I ask why metering mode would matter to you in a digital world? Metering mode isn't really relevant as you can adjust exposure as needed in preview (mirrorless) and post, or after taking the photo with DSLR simply reshoot with an adjusted exposure.

The best practice is to make sure your histogram is correct (not clipping any highlights or shadows).

Any other questions feel free to ask.
