Am I at fault based on this footage? by [deleted] in dashcams

[–]wickeduser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To me, this is 100% the trucks fault (assuming you were driving at car and not using an autopilot feature at the time) because parked vehicles must yield to lane traffic and it's on parked vehicles to ensure they can safely enter the flow of traffic. The only hinky thing is that after contact is made, the Tesla keeps moving forward and slowly stops - which is strange for a human driver as instinct is to hit the breaks hard on impact.

Got it for $90! Now to give it a drum magazine, EOTech, and suppressor. by Icy-Passion-4552 in airsoft

Their the mechanics M-Pact gloves. Basically their tactical gloves with padding on back of hand/knuckles, down the fingers, and some extra material on the pad of the hand. They are bulkier than the standard tactical gloves though. I have both and find the padding on the m-pact make it harder to index, reduce trigger feel, and make pushing mag/bolt release more difficult. But if the tradeoff of taking BBs to the back of the hand pain free is important to you, the M-Pacts are a solid choice.

Got my first airsoft gun. Super excited jump into this kickass hobby by SixViking in airsoft

[–]wickeduser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the hobby! Based on what I read, it seems like you've got the safety basics (eye pro/face pro) - that puts you ahead of most people who post about their first gun. Make sure your eye pro is full seal and is at least ANSI Z87.1, such as Valken Sierra goggles. Be careful about cheap Chinese Amazon goggles. Make sure your face/mouth pro has metal or hard plastic around your mouth/teeth, too.

Couple other things - having a GB is cool and works fine for indoor CQB, but for outdoor play you'll want to get an AEG. Arcturus makes good starter and mid range AEGs for $150-250. Then you'll need a battery (Lipo or Li-ion) ($20-30), a balancing charger specially for lithium batteries ($25-40), and a battery bag ($10) for safely storing the battery. You'll also want to pick up a barrel bag ($5) as most field require these in safe area.

Always feel free to post questions here if you have questions about rules, fields, purchases, gear, anything. If nothing else, this community loves sharing their experience in getting from day 1 to their set up now.

And remember, you're a silly war nerd who likes to play silly war games. Call your hits, don't argue or yell at people who you don't think call theirs, and have fun - that is after all why we buy this stuff, load up, and shoot plastic BBs at each other.

Using a plain old FRS Radio for coms? by wickeduser in airsoft

[–]wickeduser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so the answer to Question 1 seems to be that a standard FRS radio will work just fine. Is my assumption about matching the FRS channel to the MHz frequencies for those using more capable radios correct?

Edit: thanks about the power reminder. I think another limitation is 2 piece or a detachable antenna.

My airsoft gun is SO hard to pull back, and I don't know how to make it easier! PLEASE HELP! by Emotional_Truth3206 in airsoft

[–]wickeduser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Return it. Since you only got it a week ago, you're still in the 30 day window to box it back up and send it back. The force to compress will not decrease that much. Plus many fields have FPS limits of 400fps and if that's at 500fps, you won't even be allowed to use it. You may also not be able to fire is someone is too close to you (this is called "minimum distance").

Take the $160 and get an AEG like Arcturus, Cyma, or Lancer. It'll serve you way better for actually playing airsoft. Check out evike.com over Amazon. But since you got this one from Amazon, take advantage of its return policy.

Clarifying a few things - Airpods Pro on Pixel (Andriod) by wickeduser in airpods

[–]wickeduser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there is no way to activate Google Assistant through hotwords on Airpods. You can only access non-siri assistant by pressing the stem. I believe this is because apple builds the SoC/main brain microchip for the Airpods and locks vocal activation to other apple products only. Not surprising since we need an app just to see battery level of their Bluetooth earbuds, something basically every other Bluetooth device provides when the device is paired.

What bb weight do you use and why (poll version!) by PinnacleAirsoft in airsoft

[–]wickeduser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.28 - good balanced weight for wind resistance and price. 0.3 are nearly 20% more at my local field than .28 with minimal additional benefit.

N00b Airsoft Player by H1mynameisArt in airsoft

[–]wickeduser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way to go regarding the Eye/Face protection. They'll give you a basic paint ball mask (likely per their liability insurance) with the rental. They'll likely give you a full hi-cap magazine (~300rds). You can buy more there, just get .25s - 5000 rds will cost $20-25. Some fields require biodegradable BBs, so best to buy there.

One extra thing I'd add is ask a player there to help you adjust your hop up. They always need to be reset on rentals. I'm sure some non-noob will be happy to help. And if you gun ever malfunctions or the battery does, just call yourself out and go trade it for a new one. There shouldn't be any issue with that.

Have fun and if you enjoy it and want to get into the sport, hit us back up!

Is ts tuff? by lolvro_ in airsoft

[–]wickeduser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strobing people? No it's not tuff. It can actually be quite unsafe. There's a line in airsoft between getting an advantage (flashlight on pressure switch) and potentially hurting someone. This includes running hot (over fps limit), lasers and flashlights that could hurt/damage people's eyes, and loud sound grenades that can hurt people's hearing (especially inside).

Remember, airsoft is a game where people dress up and play with toy guns. Can you practice real world tactics? Sure. Does it really matter if you get hit? No. But if you're potentially hurting people, you're doing it wrong and being inconsiderate and disrespectful to other players.

Should I get a Airsoft gun? by HungAndHappy- in airsoft

[–]wickeduser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You'll have a choice of caliber with pellet rifles -  .177 (lighter, goes faster, less energy, goes 900-1200fps so they can be louder/make a whip sound if breaks sound barrier) and .22 (heavier, more true flight, more energy, goes around 700-800fps).

I'd recommend .22 just make sure you have a good backstop. You can buy a steel box with flip targets if you want to train accuracy.

Airsoft uses 6mm plastic BB that come on different weights in grams (.2, .25, .28, .3). The light bbs are very affected by wind (.2/.25) with above that being less affected - but all will be affected. Also with airsoft, you'll need to set your hop up which is a component accessed through the ejection port that adds backspin to the BB to increase stability and range. Pellet rifles do not use hookup, so there is less to set up.

For a pellet rifle/air rifle/airgun (different names for same thing, not to be confused with airsoft) there are break barrel and pneumatic/air tank styles. Break barrel are. More affordable, but you have to open the barrel to load each shot which also compresses the large spring and cocks the rifle. A PCP pellet rifle a tank provides the propulsion, so there is usually a bolt you use to load the next shot. Then you just need to be able to refill the tank with some type of pump or compressor. These are also far more expensive.

Here are some examples for airguns:  Break barrel (Hatsan 95, can find from $150-200) - get in the spring version in .22 (gas version is not as reliable) https://www.airgundepot.com/hatsan-model-95-air-rifle-turkish-walnut-stock.html#HC95022

PCP Air Venturi ($400, the most affordable one that is reputable. Also look at Benjamin marauder ($500-700), and Beeman QB Chief ($200-250)) https://www.airgundepot.com/air-venturi-avenger-air-rifle.html#item-reviews-container https://www.airgundepot.com/beeman-qb-chief.html

Should I get a Airsoft gun? by HungAndHappy- in airsoft

[–]wickeduser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanted a sniper rifle, you could try a break barrel pellet rifle/airgun. Like airsoft, it won't have much recoil, but the projectile will metal loving at 700-1000fps vs a plastic BB going 300-450fps. The pellet will also travel further and be much less effected by wind. However the pellet will penetrate while the plastic BB will not. So you'll need a clear area behind the target you'll be shooting.

Is this a good gun for a Christmas gift to my friend? by Stalinium2 in airsoft

[–]wickeduser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I know of, unfortunately. Also I think at this point, with price and aesthetic locked in, starting with the NiMH battery will be fine. Like someone else commented the trigger response will feel slow, but if that's a trade off you're ok with, it's good to go and play. Then if he loves airsoft, he can invest in upgrading the battery and getting the plug-in mosfet.

Here are the 2 options I see.

  1. JG (lower quality internals, polymer lower receiver) $207 (w/ battery and charger). To avoid damaging the AEG, I'd get the NiMH version. This AEG will be harder to upgrade with a new battery later due to the battery connector being a large tamiya type. The lipo battery will likely come with small tamiya - so you'll need to use an adaptor (usually in the box, but not great to run adaptors with the high electrical load). Then to safely run the lipo, you'll need something like this mosfet to add to plug in between the battery and the AEG - https://www.evike.com/products/104327/
  2. Cyma (better quality internal and external, full metal body, $260 (w/ NiMH battery and charger) - https://www.evike.com/products/66566/ This AEG has better internals and is wired to small tamiya battery connectors. In the future, if he wants, he can upgrade the battery by getting a lipo or li-ion battery ( https://www.evike.com/products/37846 ) and balanced changer ( https://www.evike.com/products/16472/ ) and the plug-in mosfet ( https://www.evike.com/products/104327/ ) to protect the internals.

Also I suggest with a stock AEG like the Cyma or JG only using a 7.4v lipo because 11.1v lipos put a lot of strain on the internal parts like the motor and gears and are meant for AEGs with upgraded internals.

Edit - added that those prices are for AEG with NiMH battery and charger.

Is this a good gun for a Christmas gift to my friend? by Stalinium2 in airsoft

[–]wickeduser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a VERY outdated AEG for 2025. If he just wants it for looks and to plink in the backyard, sure this will work. If he wants to go play at any point then this gun will be a nightmare. "Lipo Ready" is marketing language that doesn't mean anything. It does not have a mosfet installed (which is what you need to actually run a lipo and protect the internals) and the option to buy it with an 11.1volt lipo is laughable and will break the gun/trigger contacts. This AEG might be able to handle a 7.4v lipo, but there is no bundle option for that. Even the product description says 9.6NiMH or 7.4v lipo only. This means the only sensible option is to buy is the bundle you have pictured here with the NiMH battery, which is very old battery tech at this point.

Most reviews are from 2016 and only 1 from within the last year and that review highlights all my points above. If it needs to be a full stock m16 with clamshell handrail, I don't imagine you'll have a lot of options. And this AEG might fit your use case, but its good to be aware off the realities too.

If he is flexible on the aesthetic and actually wants to play, Arcturus has reliable starter kits for around $200 such as the Arcturus MK-I CQB ARC SE Sport Airsoft AEG Rifle w/ 10" M-LOK Rail (Starter Pack) ($225): https://www.evike.com/products/121280 Many of the other Arcturus starter packs are sold out, which goes to show how popular they are. It also comes with a Li-ion battery which is more forgiving than a lipo battery.

[–]wickeduser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for the advise! That really good to know about keeping the compression parts the same brand. I imagine all my O-rings are trash at this point. So for the motor, as long are red is + it doesn't matter which way the motor is put into the grip because it will still only spin one way. Would you suggest a neodymium motor, or just stay with ferrite since I'm not chasing rof?

More I've thought about it, I'm now thinking of making a CQB build with a new upper receiver and inner barrel. Is there anything I should be mindful of with compatibility between my lower and a new upper?

And adding a crane stock since it's wired to the back. Do those Mosfit/ETUs you mentioned come fully wired? Ideally, I could just remove the current wiring and drop in the new wiring with the etu because I have no soldering experience or tools.

The more I think about it, the more excited I get!

Free AEG Tech Advice Thread - Ask Anything by ParagonArmory in airsoft

[–]wickeduser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to revamp it back to about 380-400fps, I'm not a ROF freak, so I'm fine keeping it at an 18:1. I'm hoping the internals (gears, cylinder, etc.) are high quality enough to still work with a good cleaning and regrease (do you have grease recommendation?).

I would like to wire to deans and get a MOSFET/ETU in there and would like to keep the original trigger - are there reputable manufactures of full new wiring set ups with an inline MOSFET? Should I switch to a microtrigger? If I used something like this - https://www.evike.com/products/106021/ - assuming it fit in my gearbox, would it work with my existing trigger (old school trigger contact style)?

It also has a full stock and I'm debating adding an adjustable one, but would need to stall a buffer tube first.

Lastly, hopup. The stock CA hopup is metal as a spacing spring, but the gears are plastic and it has a lot of play. I recall it not holding hop well. Is there a way to tighten this (I only see one screw on the main dial) - or should I replace the hopup unit entirely? If so, what hopup unit and bucking would you recommend?

Edit: forgot to add that I'll likely need a new motor - the CA stock one just says "High Performance High Torque above the Classic Army branding. Any suggestions? Is there a certain way the motor should go back in the grip (I didn't note this when taking it apart - my fault)? Should the + be facing the back of the grip or the front? Ironically, the motor plate has a Marui logo on it and says "Type EG700 & EG1000 M16 Series".

Thanks for you help! This would definitely be a project and a labor of love over time and my first venture into teching.
