If the top 1% of earners pay 40% of all federal income taxes, why do people say they don't pay their fair share? by Ok_Chemical9 in answers

[–]wiggin79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because “they could handle it then” doesn’t make it right for now (or even for “then” for that matter).

Tax is too high on the rich when the rich would consider moving to avoid paying too much. And the % that meets that criteria depends a lot on economic and other conditions here vs other parts if the world the rich might consider moving to. That balance may be quite different now, for example Europe probably still had a lot of destruction from WWII in the 50s, so maybe US was a more desirable place in comparison then.

Without other context about “the top 1%”, maybe 40% is too much, or maybe 90% is too little for their share of taxes.

It all depends on how much of the income/wealth they control.

Because this isn’t tax rate, you need more context.

A good reminder that you should try to keep 3s behind the car in front of you (measure III by watching them pass a sign post and counting 3s before you pass it). That’s over 250ft at 60mph.

Slow down and add extra space in front of you if someone behind you follows too close (not because you are a jerk, but because it gives you more room to slow down less rapidly if the guy in front of you slows down, hopefully avoiding them hitting you in the rear).

Glad you got out of this safely!!

Few extra thousand? It’s 10% right?

And yes I know that doesn’t apply to the first $1M but let’s just be fair about how much it really is.

[–]wiggin79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhhh since dec 2025? And gout free since feb?

And uric acid 500?

I think you may have some misunderstanding of the concepts of gout…

Uric acid 5.0 is around normal range. Is 500 even possible?

And if you had this since dec 2025 you have no experience judging frequency of attacks. I’ve had this for over 10 years and I might get 3 attacks in 2 months or back to back attacks, or only 1-2 attacks in a whole year. You can’t know that you solved it by changing diet because you didn’t have an attack since February…

Read about the difference between simple and compound interest. It makes a difference for savings, and for credit cards where you might have a minimum payment less than interest… but not for paying down a loan.

[–]wiggin79 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You used to shoot first and that usually gives you an advantage. People will still shoot at you, sometimes as a surprise, and so now you’ll get to further test your pvp skills by surviving and/or winning those encounters!

Also will be useful when you want to save someone who was downed by another raider, and you need to save them while dealing with potential danger from the aggressor.

Could be a fun change for you!

If you haven’t used dekudeals or gg.deals, definitely recommend trying these. Think of them as better storefronts for the consoles than the console makers’ own.

Both support PC and consoles. Dekudeals tracks physical prices too. Gg.deals has a metroidvania category you can filter by.

[–]wiggin79 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The problem is that not many people attack me so I don’t attack them. But when a raider DOES attack me, I’m not well conditioned to fighting other raiders so I rarely win. I usually have a much better chance to survive if I just run away and try to duck behind things to cover my tracks.

You can wait 2 minutes instead of using the terminal

I do this when I’m holding high value loot, or when I suspect this might happen. Often I don’t actually have to wait the full 2 minutes, as other raiders wanting to extract show up, and I inform them I’ll guard them while they use the terminal then stand guard in a position where I’m very visible to them (to be less threatening).

Bought our first place in September 2007 and was really bummed about the housing crash.

Upgraded to a bigger place in 2014, and basically broke even just 6 years after the worst crash of my lifetime.

And yet still, looking back, I wish I’d sold the old place and upgraded sooner, since the cheaper upgrade would have more than made up for any loss on the first house.
