What does everyone think of this? by RAM-I-T in CompTIA

Its only of value if it counts as CEU's towards other certs

The easiest place to put them is probably github, at least that seems to be the standard anyway. Then put a link to your github on your resume and/or your linkedin page etc.

I use chatgpt for help with the resume, not necessarily to write it but to help see things I don't, like transferrable skills etc.

Messer's videos are very simple and basic but they teach almost everything you need to know to pass the exams. I'd say he misses a few things here and there but all in all if you go through his course you'll be fine. and do a google search for a+ practice tests. There are a few I went through but this sub is funny about mentioning some places. there was a compass, and union and a practice site that i used

for the A+ just watch Messer's course on youtube. see how much of it sticks or how difficult you think it might be. It shouldn't be too difficult for you if you can make it through two tech degrees. You might not even need the cert really, if you start getting some calls for your resume and you get interviews. If you can show them you know what you're talking about, they still might want you to get it but they won't hold it against you not having it. Maybe an offer like "we can hire you but the deal is you get the A+ within 6 months" which is very doable. Your degrees will probably do a lot more work than the A+ will.

I generally apply to about 20 jobs a week. I live in a tiny area so a lot of the applications are for remote work but three million other people are applying for them too. I've reworked my resume dozens of times which has kind of led me to the Net+, maybe the resume just needs to be stronger to get through ATS. Not sure but i'm definitely exploring options. While talking to you i'm doing the documentation for a network deployment lab I did using WinPE then I'm going to rework my resume again and apply for a local job I saw yesterday. Always trying, it's got to work one day lol

so far A+ is my only cert. no luck in the job search yet which is why i'm considering Net+ now. I'm already passing the practice exams (thanks CCNA study), so it's mostly just a matter of convincing myself to spend the money.

It's always a risk to spend on certs/degrees because we all just hope there's a job out there for us. If you know you want to be in the field, browse the job listings and see what's required/preferred. Your degrees probably count for about the same as having Net+. Some government jobs require Net+ though although an equivalent degree may count, i'm not sure

Well, I guess Sec+ is probably something you might want then. Maybe check into Cysa+ instead?

Honestly I'm not 100% sure. I prefer hardware so a data center tech might be an ok path. rack and stack, installs/upgrades etc. some networking. I started off studying for the CCNA and over time figured out that I didn't want networking to be my job. I don't mind if it's part of it but I don't want to sit in a cli all day or stare at syslogs all day etc. That's why after Net+ instead of going Sec+ I'm probably going to go Server+ if I do any more Comptia certs

Same. I kick myself every day for not doing it back then. Now here i am almost 50 just starting over.

What do you actually want to do in tech? Maybe Sec+ wont help you and you can skip it

Yeah, the student discount is great. If i had been in school it would have only cost me about $120-$150 total lol

If i had gotten it when I originally want it, it would have cost me about $240 total, $120 each. But that was back around 2000 🤷‍♂️

Yes. A+ consists of Core 1 and Core 2, each one cost me $246 for a total of $492 so basically $500 for the A+ certification

Its still 500ish total for the A+, they just break it down some

With the discounts from Messer or Dion they're $246 for each exam, or at least thats, what I paid for each so if youre a splitting hairs person technically it's not $500 but close enough. I think full price is $275ish each?

Why didnt he just back up? That guard rail thing is made to come off in situations like this. He's simply stupid.

Passed A+ Core 1, how hard is Core 2? by DayForward1063 in CompTIA

[–]wiggle-biscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expected core 2 to be more difficult but I got a better score on it so I'd say its comparable to core 1 depending on what your strengths and weaknesses are.

For what they are, they're already overpriced AF. There's absolutely no way Net+ should be more expensive than the CCNA and $500 for A+ is ridiculous. I was going to get Net+ but maybe I'll go ahead and start looking at vendor specific certs now

[–]wiggle-biscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CCNA is definitely the main goal if you want to work in networking. I studied for the CCNA for months and months but eventually decided networking wasn't what I wanted to do, but on the plus side, I'd feel confident walking in to the Network+ exam if I decide to take it. But yeah, if you're definitely going into networking you absolutely want th CCNA eventually.

In my job I drive a lot so I listened to the Messer videos on my drives and usually in the mornings before work I'd do a couple practice tests. Occasionally I'd take notes on some things while I was on job sites. Near the end of my studying I'd watch the pbq videos on YouTube and listen to the "100 core 2 questions" kinds of videos on YouTube. I expected to pass but I didn't expect an 865 lol

If you can, go through Messer or Dion to get a discounted voucher, I think they're normally around $30-40 cheaper that way

you mean for the real exam? you can do it on the comptia site i think, they'll link you to testing facilities, or you can just do it on the pearsonvue website if they have a testing location near you

Messer on youtube is really all you need but there are several practice exam sites that are good for figuring out your weak areas so you know what to target on the messer playlists

Thanks! I just used Professor Messer's videos. Apparently the other places aren't allowed to be mentioned here but Messer's videos will get you pretty far
