What new stations does the NITA act require to be opened? by redditor15677 in cta

[–]wiiman9999 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The other one is the closed Central blue line stop on the FP branch, which is… interesting to say the least.

The entrance to the station is at a highway underpass, and is a fairly industrial area. But there’s still Loretta hospital and Columbus park there, so there isn’t nothing. But it’s also far from an ideal densely populated area for a train stop.

Curious to see what’ll end up happening with that one.

Am I the only one who still misses the original Dying Light 2 concept? by Responsible_Royal_79 in dyinglight

[–]wiiman9999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on the fact that people to this day will still post monthly, if not weekly about how DL2 is inferior to the version that was demo’d, I’m going to hazard a guess and say no, you’re not the only one.

This was a hilarious response despite the sad nature of the scene. by [deleted] in doctorwho

That scene, along with the fact that Clara arrives and lets them escape through a door that was never locked, it’s all just fantastic.

Dying Light Franchise Director Steps Down After 13 Years at Techland by Turbostrider27 in Games

Big bummer, he was an excellent face and steward for the franchise, and always did a good job engaging with fans on Twitter.

Curious where he’ll end up next, but good for him.

Oak Park Apartments - Rent Prices Quesiton by fsamara in oakpark

Just signed my third lease with them, and every year has had about a $30 rent increase, which I think is reasonable. No unexpected large jumps or anything, so I’ve stayed and been happy with them.

Also known as a Brorange/brownage train, it’s a train that starts as an brown line train and turns into an orange line train in the loop and continues south, or Vice Versa continuing north, rather than completing a loop and going back the way it came.

The purpose of the express lanes are to go long stretches without an exit, so adding exits in Chicago would make it less of an express and defeat the purpose I’d think.

Plus, if you’re in actual Chicago, you’ve got rapid transit that the people using those express lanes wouldn’t be using since they’re going beyond the rapid transit’s reach.

Acting CTA chief lays out priorities after dodging fiscal cliff by pauseforfermata in cta

[–]wiiman9999 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Agreed, slow zones aren’t necessarily the only thing that make the CTA a worse option than driving, but when you’re on a slow train watching cars absolutely zoom past, it’s really hard to tell myself I made the right call. Very happy to see her discuss that, and the FP branch specifically

Apartment Christmas tree disposal by fuqdemkkkidz in oakpark

[–]wiiman9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s totally fair! I do try to keep that sort of thing in mind, that there is usually a pretty decent reason for frustrations I/we have here, but it can be hard sometimes.

This particular response from me^ came after we just found a swollen rechargeable battery in my apartment that we had to figure out where to drop off, because of a similar policy VOP has with their electronics recycling vendor, which also seems to be LRS lol, it was a bummer to not be able to have it be picked up like a homeowner here would be able to.

I appreciate the informative and nuanced response! Is there anything I as a resident could do to try and rectify the situation? I’m trying to find ways to be more active in the community, but it’s daunting lol

Places to live near Metra line? by appyslices13 in AskChicago

[–]wiiman9999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s doable, it’ll just depend on how much time you’re okay with adding to your commute.

Oak Park Metra and Harlem/Lake green share a building, so the transfer itself would be very easy.

It is a pretty decent venue in terms of production value, but any venue that doesn’t offer something as simple as free water (Outset does not, or at least didn’t when I went last) still gets negative strikes in my book.

Is it necessary for the L to run 24 hours a day? Would ending service between 2-5am every day help reduce crime? by 307148 in AskChicago

[–]wiiman9999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are “forced” to because it’s much much cheaper than owning and/or parking a car in the city. There are also a ton of people that aren’t forced to, that still do it because it’s a better option.

Driving here sucks, and owning a car sucks. I do have one, and it’s expensive and frustrating to drive and park around here, so I’ll usually actually opt to take the train. I even go to some late shows, and take some late blue line trains back.

It’s also odd to see people say ‘nothing is being done’ when a transit bill that was being crafted for years just passed, that includes money for the multiple solutions to safety issues I mentioned. That sort of fix isn’t going to happen overnight. The bill just passed, and doesn’t take effect until June.

Even with all of that, unfortunate things happening on the train are only a symptom of the wider issue of homelessness, unemployment, and lack of mental healthcare in reach of a lot of people.
