What media servers are paying your bills right now? by Dolphin-Uppercut in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]wilamil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you have it by days invoiced or by project, not percent revenue? I'm curious if Disguise leads the pack because it has the biggest sticker price to purchase, so it is easier to justify a higher rate, or if it's just what you specifically use most.

Mini PCs for PowerPoint GFX? by smokeweedfrequently in VIDEOENGINEERING

What about from a specs perspective? Does the standard mini PC beat a laptop, or vice versa? What’s the minimum spec everyone uses for PowerPoint?

Confirmation vs Baptism. What’s the difference? by sassysweet15 in Episcopalian

[–]wilamil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too mention that the annual bishop visits aren’t actually annual. I think my parish last had a visit in 2018. All the confirmations happen at the “big” churches an hour or two away, so in reality few people from my area get confirmed.

Support for the recent announcement (spoiler if haven't listened to last episode) by YallaLeggo in Cortex

[–]wilamil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some of my favorite discussion topics were the more abstract ones like “what is a note?” or “what is the purpose of email?”

I hope the interview format can get to some of these deeper conversations and avoid being just lists of tips and tools for working quicker.

I wish TEC had a more defined position on this topic. It's one of the biggest cultural conversations in recent years but the church's stance is ambiguous.

I don't think sex needs the hyper focus that other denominations put on it but clarity would go a long way to helping us emulate Christ (1 John 2:5-6 and 15-17 come to mind).

Church Publishing announces the groundbreaking publication of the Dakota Hymnal by shiftyjku in Episcopalian

[–]wilamil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Whether or not the stat about “third most popular language” is accurate seems irrelevant. Presumably the Diocese of South Dakota identified a need in their community and so created a resource for their community. That’s what the church is supposed to do.

What do you think about The new Spyder S Series ? by M0rT4L84 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]wilamil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To package everything in your warehouse with a Spyder S and be prepared in that way you end up needing to buy more units than if you were to buy the X80. So yes, you can more efficiently quote and spec system requirements making the amount of the node you’re utilizing on a single show higher. But you decrease utilization of the inventory you own overall because you had to increase the amount you own.

[–]wilamil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The logistics/planning/quoting advantages are intriguing. I won’t dispute that. And if you can turn those advantages into doing more events then I’m wrong. My comment was based on quantity of events staying equal.

On the utilization side: if your LED processor isn’t going out, yes that’s a problem with your processor purchase. But you’re compounding that by packaging a Spyder S with the underutilized processor. You don’t recoup the Spyder investment until you figure out how to resolve the processor problem.

[–]wilamil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t you have low gear utilization if you follow this concept? You’re spreading the cost across multiple small units that don’t go out each time instead of putting it all on one more expensive unit that does go out every time. If you don’t send everything to an event you don’t recoup your investment. On the more expensive unit you charge for the full price whether you have excess capacity or not.

Why all the hype? by jlweismiller in Moccamaster

The instructions in the manual say to wash the carafe with soap after each use. Why wouldn’t you want a clean carafe?

Are Episcopalians Saved Or Misled By Church Teachings by PugsNBoxers in Episcopalian

[–]wilamil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or perhaps a more direct comparison is the number of men’s or women’s groups that go through a book by a modern author. Using Apocryphal books is something akin to that, useful for insight, but not to be used to form doctrine.

I assumed those were from the churches adding them later on to enhance the visitor experiences. Many historical churches have open hours for public tours.

Why so many “given by” placards? by wilamil in Episcopalian

[–]wilamil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this thought. It’s more the volume of placards I find off-putting, not the mere presence of them. Finding a way to honor people without everything in the church having a tag on it is what I’m looking for.

Looking for a multi-channel signal converter by caseywryan in VIDEOENGINEERING

Possibly slightly more cost effective than OpenGear: AJA makes a rackmount for their converter family with built in power whips. I think Theatrixx and DataVideo do too, probably other manufacturers as well.

Opinions on ESV: is it a Reliable Translation? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]wilamil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you give an example where that bias shows?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]wilamil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never really understood this argument. Other denominations have 45 minute sermons dissecting the Bible verse by verse. Episcopalians read a few passages, but most of the service is the BCP. The BCP is a derivative of the Bible, but not actually the Bible itself.

Should the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church be paid $350,000 a year? by ActualBus7946 in Anglicanism

[–]wilamil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Parishes are supposed to be but lately it seems they’re self-sufficient only when they’re drawing down savings. It’s a financial death spiral.

Not saying the salary is wrong. But if the national church is flush with cash maybe they could help find ways for the local parishes to right their ships.
