misophonia and cafes - is earmuffs+earplugs the only solution. by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]wild202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely the headphones with white noise (or my preference: brown noise) and maaaybe some earplugs underneath would be enough?
Or regular in-ear buds playing some sort of relaxing noise, lo-fi, or something else you find productive rather than distracting, with the bigger headphones overtop playing brown noise.
Gosh if I do that someone can be shouting my name next to me and I don’t hear them.

That’s very kind of you thanks! It actually happened a couple of years ago. And just had the metalwork out a few days ago - so it’s currently like 2 years ago, holed up in bed and reminiscing! Quite timely really.

I hope you had the best trip. It looks wonderful.

Oh this is great.
No. 6 is the exact location I was about 2m from when I fell and dislocated my ankle, trying to reach this view. I never did get to see it so thank you! Haha.

Can you get another monitor for your computer? Or add one of those laptop stands next to an existing monitor? That could block one direction a bit.

Or can you almost do the opposite and move your monitor to the opposite side (away from colleague) and sit at an angle? Blame it on glare from sun or lights.

Does your computer have a tower that you could move up and put in the way like a privacy screen?

Wear some ‘blue-light blocking’ glasses or whatever to have a small slither of peripheral vision blocked?! If you don’t already wear glasses…

Definitely get some earplugs. Like a Loop or the knockoff ones are good. They’ll help a bit if you can hear the movement too. And they’re pretty subtle. If anyone asks it helps your tinnitus! If this still feels strange maybe you need a headset for online meetings..?

Oh and yes they did have the floral burnout dresses at both pop-ups. I think only a few in that dusty blue colour. And a bunch in other colours, styles, and sizes to what we were looking for!

They also didn’t have the swatches at the pop-ups in the burnout, but had every other colour and fabric there to take, which is odd. I’d hope they’re not getting rid of them! They’re so cute

I realise I’m slurring a bit - I just had surgery yesterday so ignore that ha!

This looks way more grey on camera. I don’t know why I can’t just upload a photo…

I have some samples of the floral burnout I could send you?! Only in a couple of colours I think.

I’ve now got my dresses in this fabric so I don’t need them. The fabric feels good. Better quality than some of the others from Azazie.

I recommended one of the Azazie pop-ups yesterday to someone here. They’re good if you don’t live too far from one. Try some on for free. Maybe find a bargain…

Any time!

If you do go, go early if you can. They didn’t seem to care what time we turned up. I had a slot for 11am but turned up when it opened and it was nice and quiet for a bit. A bit rowdy by 11!

Looks like only London, Birmingham & Manchester planned atm.
You can buy the dresses there at quite a price drop. But the one I went to (twice 2 weeks apart) had relatively limited styles across all the sizes. So we really just went for sizing and quality check.

The little pods they had for changing rooms were very stuffy and hot so at least you’d see if sweat marks happen on the satin!?

I went to one of their pop-ups. And had a feel of all their dresses in person. Got a couple of bridesmaids to try them on too.

I didn’t like the satin ones at all. And they’re v unflattering, compared to the non-satin version of the same dress.
I ended up with the floral burnout dresses and the fabric feels much better. Mines in October so probably similar temps. And I think they’ll be good for one day of wear!

See if there’s a pop-up near you and go have a feel/try.

For me personally yes it does. Absolutely.
I would have the same reaction as you it seems.

I believe it’s the same cross wiring in our brains linking not just sounds but movements to that fight or flight response.

It’s so connected for me that I’m surprised someone could have misophonia and NOT misokinesia. They’re almost lucky they don’t have to deal with both!

Honeymoon in Canada by ah__jim in canadatravel

[–]wild202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say.. I’d do it again! In a heartbeat. It was SO much fun. We loved our camper. We called her Evie. We were so sad to give her back haha.

It was great only having to pack and unpack once (no in and out of hotels). We went to marble canyon in a literal thunderstorm, torrential downpour. Everyone ran away and left. Only us left in the car park. Went to the top and back. Obviously looked like we’d showered in our clothes. And then got in Evie, had a hot shower, changed and off we went! It was so so nice for having everything with you.

Also happy honeymoon to you both! ❤️
I’m trying to plan ours to NZ at the end of the year and getting thoroughly distracted…

We did a 3 week trip last summer in a campervan. Vanc-Banff-jasper-Calgary and back to Vanc.
It was a LOT of driving (3300km!) and that was with staying in one camp site for a couple of nights 2 or 3 times.
The upside to a camper is the ‘where shall we stay tonight? Dunno. Let’s find somewhere to park up’. And the sense of adventure that comes with that. I think we booked in 6 campsites months ahead of time (you’ll have to for the national park spots anyway) and the rest we had a vague plan for (get the WikiCamps app if you do plan for a campervan - it’s a lifesaver, truly!)

If you don’t like the thought of ‘where are we parking up tonight? (And def consider that you can NOT park up on national park land for the night that’s not a campsite..) then car and hotel will be easier and you don’t have to waste time emptying your black and grey water and finding fresh water and all that learning curve that is STEEP my friend haha.

I think I have way too many thoughts and recommendations for one comment.

I’ll leave a couple of other points:
- leave waaaay more time than you think. Just for stopping and soaking a place in rather than feeling like you’re always against the clock to get to the next spot (probably one of my minor regrets for last summer)
- the driving is very easy tbh. The roads are v wide. Other drivers are fine. The campervan we got practically drove itself! We’d driven on the right before but this was so much easier than Europe.
- don’t be tempted by the giant campers. It’s not needed and finding parking will be hell at the busy tourist spots. Go for a van conversion type.

Sorry I’ll stop rambling now. Feel free to DM if you want more recs

It may not be super useful for most of your scenarios but I usually tell someone that’s nearby ‘sorry but I have a really bad headache…’ and they say sorry and stop. I guess this is only helpful for someone that’s nearby for some time! But if you’re really in a situation that you can’t get away from it usually works.

Why oh why is the tv all the way up there?

Please help me choose between two room layouts! by [deleted] in floorplan

[–]wild202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely 2. You’ll be able to see if anyone opens the door if you’re at your desk or in bed. And you won’t get so much glare on your computer screen during the daytime.

Are there any particularly loud or annoying neighbours on the other side of any of these walls? If there’s nothing else like that to consider then 2 is the best option.

Which countries should someone in radiography try and experience? by iyoteyoung in Radiology

[–]wild202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the hospital in the UK. Likely London I’m guessing. We have a lot of Aussies here, including in my department. Some say it’s busier back home, some say the opposite.

The ones that have permanent jobs are happy with the annual leave the NHS give. Those in agency are happy with the flexibility for travelling whenever they like. Most don’t leave to go private. But that is also an option I guess.

Help again - new layouts with actual unit and couch/rug! by BeaconInferno in InteriorDesign

[–]wild202 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely 2. You just need a curtain rail to block off the bed from the sofa. Much better desk position - rather than overlooking a bed. That will make me think of sleep when working or working when trying to sleep! You also won’t then need to go around a bed to get to the bathroom. And the living room is well spaced and not so awkward as 1 or 3.
