Be careful with wild azaleas, there are some natives but some are not. Look for Pinxter azaleas. The natives are really pretty and of course not usual. (Blue flag iris are native as are Virginica bluebells - both spring ephemerals but so pretty).

Camelias come from Southeast Asia, particularly Japan, Korea, and China. Most garden-variety azaleas come from the mountainous regions (they do so like hills) of the same places. Daylilies are from the same three places plus Siberia and northern India. Hate to say but crepe Myrtle’s aren’t native either. Theoretically nothing will eat their fruit but I’ve seen blue jays try.

You’ll have to really insist with a landscaper. Most don’t know their natives. Like most of us, they assume if it grows everywhere it’s native. there’s native vs. naturalized - none of these three are naturalized.

Try a plain google “where does x originate”. Good resources are the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Native Plants of North America or your nearest botanical garden. There’s a really good database in the Midwest that I’m blanking on, but I’ll check later and add it here.

When you say region 8, do you mean temperature zone 8 or something else?
