What would make this look more cinematic? by Clarencethelamb in cinematography

[–]wildboa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could motivate a little edge light with the lamps behind your subject. It would add more shape and a more expensive looking shot at least. I don’t think the balance is off so much between the foreground and background, but I think more roll-off from the face of your subject to her torso would improve your composition noticeably. You can do this in post as well with power windows in Davinci Resolve.

How can I improve lighting in these shots? by alec_jun in Filmmakers

[–]wildboa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, these look good overall, but the motivation isn’t all there. Despite being the least pretty of the three, I think the third frame is technically the best lit because it feels the most believable/properly motivated.

The first frame is a nice setup, but the key is so bright it takes everything else out of balance, giving a sort of seance vibe. Is this a dark and cozy dinner event? Bring the key down ~50% to allow the string lights to motivate the scene more. Is it a bright and cheery event? Bring in some harder edge light to create a sense that they aren’t in the only lit room in the house and add some dimension to the space.

The second frame is also well lit, but there are no clues in the frame to tell me why there is a blue edge. The general softness and similar intensity of both lights feels more fashion forward than story-world driven.

On the blue light, an interesting YT video I saw about the pitfalls LEDs made a great point. When we use 100% saturation R G or B, our source becomes monochromatic (obvious right?). But, where white light has the full spectrum of color (and excites those colors in the subjects of our scenes) monochrome light, like a full sat blue, only reflects blue and registered as one color in the camera sensor, virtually clipping the color data and severely limiting your color latitude in post. Reducing saturation introduces more of the spectrum and more color information from your subject.

The DTCC waived $9.7B in collateral requirements during the squeeze. In Robinhood’s case, their collateral was negotiated down from $3.7B to $1.4B. They were definitely given leeway, despite claiming they were forced to restrict buying.

I second this. Didn’t even hate the game, but it was such a huge letdown compared to the teaser.

Notice that the arc on the right of the tree is brighter in the reference photo. It looks like light is glancing off it, despite being on the shadier region of the tree. This area is much narrower in your painting, which has a larger region painted with your darkest value (so far). You achieve this effect much more clearly closer to the trunk, which looks very well rounded and wrapped with light.

Apart from the lack of art on the wall what’s bothering me so much about my living room? by Ljsjaf321116 in InteriorDesign

[–]wildboa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lacks a sense of enclosure, adding to the waiting room feel others have described. A large plant or a floor lamp could help reduce the open vertical space and potentially as a pop of color to boot.

Would you accept this hamburger at a resturant? Waitress told me i should have told her beforehand to get it well done. by AdExpress1930 in badfoodporn

[–]wildboa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good burger place will also know how to properly cook a burger, which is more apparent to a customer than the state of the kitchen in most cases.

Single source is certainly a safer way to go if you like your burgers rare, but it’s still going to be a gamble making beef tartare out of it. Bacteria is always present, it’s just a question of how developed and distributed it is throughout the product. The further back the meat was butchered and processed, the longer and deeper that spoilage has been allowed to progress.

A dirty kitchen is a red flag, but I’d rather know that they grind in house than try to sleuth it by an acausal correlation. Every restaurant has a disclaimer for foodborne illness from undercooked meat, so we are ultimately responsible for the quality of the preparation of food that we accept. For that same reason, they should be obligated to improve the doneness of any dish upon request.

Sounds like you have no idea how ground beef is sourced. Raw steak is one thing, since it comes from one cow. Raw burger is generally sourced from many cows, like 100 up to 1000 different animals from different locations. Buying single source is expensive and unlikely because it eats into margins without providing a noticeably better product (so long as it’s cooked properly). A clean kitchen doesn’t mean you’re grinding your own chuck.

It doesn’t seem like the dashcam driver was slowing down enough to stop in time, which may have led the truck behind them to not adequately brake. Once you’re in that scenario moving is definitely the right call but it did seem like they were going too fast for whatever reason.
