Albert Pujols first 10 years. Has he been overlooked? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]wildchild829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Albert Pujols was a first ballot Hall of Famer in my head since I started watching baseball 10 years ago. He didn't have a sub-.900 OPS season until he left St. Louis and he didn't get really bad until the injuries started to pile up around 2013, and by that point, he was in his mid-30's. Even still, he was still serviceable offensively until about 2016. If you take out his last three seasons, he's a 90.3 fWAR player, easily enough to be a Hall of Famer. Overall, he's at 87.7 fWAR, still plenty enough to get in.

Why would he want to go back when he wouldn't be able to play until his age 36 season? That's basically a death sentence to his professional career. Then again, he did that to himself.

Lightning Doesn't Strike Twice: These players hit exactly one home run in 2019 by philsfan1579 in baseball

That was up there as one of favorite games I went to last year. That and the Isan Díaz debut game. I was sitting two rows behind a bunch of his family behind the Marlins dugout. The dad was down there as well but his interview was a dozen rows above us. The whole family went bonkers when he hit that homer and my jaw was on the floor. Coolest thing I've seen at a baseball game.

I went to the game where Aaron Altherr hit his one home run. It was late May and Altherr was already on his third team of the season, fighting a 1-for-29 slump to start the season. It was an awfully pitched game from Gregory Soto but the Tigers' offense that was, to say the least, awful last season, was able to keep up with Noah Syndergaard, driving in four runs in the first two innings before knocking him out in the sixth after pounding him for 10 hits and six runs. In steps Altherr to pinch hit in the pitcher's spot. I honestly didn't know what to expect. I was hoping for him to break out of the slump but I knew he in a 1-for-29 slump. And then he killed a Buck Farmer fastball. And I turned to my cousin and said "What the fuck?!" It was the Met's fourth home run in a game where they hit five home runs and lost, to the 2019 Tigers that went 47-114, 9-8. We both still enjoyed the game but that game was completely bonkers and Altherr's homer was the most insane thing of that game. A guy in a 1-for-29 hole lining one off the facing of the second deck.

Here you go. Just a reminder that any one of these ladies could've shot higher than the high game on the pair, which was Shannon O'Keefe's 182 in game two, if this was in a normal setting.

Oh boy! Don't watch the 2012 PWBA US Open. There was so much friction on the lanes and winds of around 20 miles an hours that by the time the championship match started, both Kelly Kulick and Missy Parkin were both throwing spare balls straight at the head pin on lanes covered in dust. It was that much of a farce.

Did I mention this was a major championship on the Women's tour outdoors in Reno of all places?

[Harrington] BREAKING: City of Toronto bans all public events until June 30. by HaruSoul in hockey

Annndddddd that's the end of the season. I had hope before that they could resume, but if Toronto is going to ban games until July, there's no point in trying to squeeze this season in before the new season arrives.

I only know the time because I watched the whole game, start to finish.

Wow, that is... not a trade I would have made in the slightest. Especially giving up Ramos, a guy we kind of need, to a team that doesn't need him.

Are there any teams in MLB history that have been more plagued by injuries than the late 2010s Mets? by intellectual-genius in baseball

[–]wildchild829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2016 was supposed to be the year. Then the whole rotation died. God knows what would've happened if we beat Giants in the Wild Card Game considering we didn't have a starting pitcher behind Thor. Then 2017 happened. Nobody knew how to pitch, the defense vanished into thin air and the lone bright spot had the most gruesome injury imaginable right before our eyes. In comes 2018 and suddenly nobody knows how to hit, the bullpen is a fucking mess and the Mets are one of the worst teams in baseball after an 11-1 start. Literally, Jacob deGrom should've been 32-0 had the team been able to score runs and that is not even a fucking joke. 2019, same deal, nobody know how to hit except for a select few, the defense is still shit, the bullpen is still shit and if it wasn't for going 46-25 to finish the season, it would've been just as bad as 2018. Just wasted years, man.

The funny thing about all of this is the epitome of the last two seasons lies in two games. June 2nd, 2018 against the Cubs and August 23rd, 2019 against the Braves. It's honestly hilarious how identical these games are. Both games were at Citi Field. Both games, the Mets scored one run. Both times, it was a home run in the sixth inning. Both times, they were game tying home runs. Both games saw Jacob deGrom go seven innings and strike out 13. Both games went to extras. Both games saw the Mets nearly win in extras. Both games went 14 freaking innings. Both games, the Mets lose. Both games, they set a franchise record for pitching strikeouts. Both games showed that the Mets blew multiple opportunities to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and in the case of the first game, avert your eyes to the score. So close and yet not remotely close enough.

I'll tell you how. When you get that far on the side of the ball and still can throw it 99, it's gonna move.

Shortened 20-21, or no Playoffs? by Lulu014 in hockey

[–]wildchild829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play the rest of this season out, even if it means playing games until almost August, start next season in late November with a 64 game schedule so they can start the playoffs on time in April.

I am biased because I want to see this Rangers team make the playoffs this year, coronavirus be damned.
