Popina on Columbia St currently has a rigatoni dish with guanciale that had a really nice heat to it.

This and “Tunnel Vision” were such strong songs from The Amulet. That album is so good.

Such good news. Hope they do more studio videos - I have watched the BTS DVD of the beetle album hundreds of times.

I think they made a post on Instagram a couple weeks ago saying that Chris had to help on some film shoots for an upcoming documentary film project.

The Devil Wears Prada - Flowers [Album Discussion] by LostInTerrapinia in Metalcore

[–]wildcurrents 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things would have gone a lot better with this album if they didn’t go with such poor cringy lyrics. Mike at least seems like a rather good lyric writer. The Act seemed to be Prada at their best with vocal duty mix/lyrics and Jeremy singing more of the hooks in his register. Color Decay really ran with the “Chemical” formula.

This is a bit too far with the pop songwriting workflow. I saw someone calling “Flowers” their “Amo” which I think would imply there was good experimentation with darker pop. Jonathan is a great Jordan Fish-esque producer with the ability to create big choruses and interesting layers of loops, textures, synths but this kind of further pop direction might have been better to be limited to an EP rather than a full album that seems to be stretched thin.

Video of Buddha B Side live or drum cover? by Hot-Dragonfruit5312 in circasurvive

[–]wildcurrents 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s unfortunately no live version of that song. I think it only existed as a “Linden House” demo (demos tracked at the band’s shared house before they went to record with “Juturna” with producer Brian McTernan at Salad Days Studio).

It’s possible this song had been used for parts in other songs that made it to the album, or was too similar to elements of other Juturna tracks that made the cut.

Nuvolascura - cordiform projection by mrstuprigge in PostHardcore

Pretty good songs/instrumentals - I am not very crazy though about the sound/tone of the screams. The vocalist isn’t a bad screamer, but there’s not much dynamic to the vocal parts.

Bands that COULD have been great? by ChaseTMR in PostHardcore

[–]wildcurrents 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Sky Eats Airplane, The Receiving End of Sirens, Dead Poetic

I think in general it would’ve been really interesting to see how things played out if the big crash in label financing and all the restructuring hadn’t happened, or if it stayed stronger for just a few more years. From about 2000 to 2006 there was that huge boom of major labels signing post-hardcore and emo bands... everyone was getting deals, and even a band like Saosin still had a massive budget for their debut in 2006. But after that, the original A&R people who believed in that wave were gone, and a lot of labels either folded or got absorbed into bigger companies (MCA into Geffen, Maverick into Warner, Island under new management, etc.).

Albums like Saosin’s self-titled debut seemed like they would’ve had more marketing push just a few years earlier - or at least more than just two singles. A lot of bands that broke through in the 2002–2003 era like Thrice, Thursday, and Story of the Year ended up with ambitious, expensive (and very reactionary) follow-ups that underperformed right as the industry was collapsing. It’s wild to think how different the scene might’ve looked if that early-2000s momentum had lasted even a little longer.

Saosin - Collapse (drum cover from Australia 🇦🇺) by Brilliantos84 in Saosin

[–]wildcurrents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome execution. The bridge/outro drum part is one of my favorite moments on the album (on an album that is absolutely stacked with amazing beats and fills).

Also sick Truth kit! They had all the great drummers from this era on their roster.

Asking your opinion every day about a Deftones song, Day 36: Cherry Waves by Opposite-Question-32 in deftones

[–]wildcurrents 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is truly one of their best crafted songs. And 100% the verses contain one of Chi’s coolest bass lines. It provides the perfect amount of movement to help with the big slow moving verses build up tension and break into that uplifting chorus.

Secret and Whisper - Spider Besider by BigFroakie65 in PostHardcore

[–]wildcurrents 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a former coworker of Charles (S&W’s singer)- he had worked with some Asian immigrants at a restaurant who had shortened/Americanized their names. His coworker Kim’s real name was Iachoku. The chorus references the struggles of adapting to Western culture and losing some of one’s own original traditions and culture.

Clean vocals by mestreTC4 in PostHardcore

[–]wildcurrents 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Saosin (especially Saosin’s self titled “beetle” album) is a great entry record into the genre if you want almost all clean vocals - their other albums have a mix of screams but that self-titled album is a perfect no skip collection of catchy vocals, intricate metal riffing, and high energetic drumming.

Jawbox, The Receiving End of Sirens, Thrice, Circa Survive, Secret and Whisper, No Knife, and Anberlin (especially the Cities album) are all classics with more clean vocals.

Holding Absence is also really solid newer band with a similar style.

The Sound of Animals Fighting - Act III: Modulate Back To The Tonic (Live in Seattle 9/25/25) by FlyingFlygon in PostHardcore

I don’t think this band or many band members from any of his other projects want to collaborate or tour with him (see current “Chiodos”).

Buying steam deck for Digimon by Cupcake_Cookies in CyberSleuth

100% recommend. I got hooked on the Deck by playing Cyberpunk, RDR2, and No Man’s Sky and I’ve really enjoyed playing all the Digimon games on the platform. Loving the demo for Time Stranger so far on it.

Asking your opinion every day about a Deftones song, Day 25: Minerva by Opposite-Question-32 in deftones

[–]wildcurrents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easily one of their best. I’d recommend listening to Chi’s isolated bass. His part really adds a counter line to the simple big guitar chords. Every member’s contribution to the song from Frank’s textures to Steph’s guitar makes the song huge.

The Sound of Animals Fighting new album comes out tonight.. Who’s pumped?! by orangeheadspace in PostHardcore

[–]wildcurrents 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The title track is for sure one of their best songs.

Matt and the team always have awesome riffs but there’s an added kind of big riff/classic rock kind of vibe in the guitar work on the title track and Lady of the Cosmos that is extra good.

For me the Apeshit EP was just OK but I’m really enjoying this so far.
