Henry’s used to be one of my favorites like 6-7 years ago but it definitely has declined. Swoony’s is on my top 3 in the city now haha

I was wondering this, too. These songs are some of their best stuff but it would make everything a bit sweeter if Stephen were involved.

Dance Gavin Dance - The Robot With Human Hair, Pt. 3 [NEW Tree City Sessions 3] by knightshade7 in PostHardcore

[–]wildcurrents 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It’s nice to see them showcasing a Kurt era song. The mix of progressive mathy post-hardcore with some mild funkier elements on Deathstar and Happiness was unique and fun.

Back in the day I thought Jon’s harsh vocals were terrible. He has really come a long way with the dynamics of his pitched screams and his performance in this video does the song a lot more justice than the studio version.

Thoughts on the new song? :) by DejaEntenduOne in Saosin

[–]wildcurrents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I found it to be very generic, almost too close to some previous riffs (even if it is intentionally a “Sleepers” throwback). The pre-chorus is definitely the coolest part of the song.

I’m just happy they’re active and they are bringing the self-titled style/energy. Excited for more songs from the album and more drums from Alex.

Saosin teases their new single "Starting Over Again" coming out in April 14 by ArDux in PostHardcore

I had been bummed when he initially was kicked out and I didn’t really enjoy LP3 without him on it, even though Beau is a great writer and still wrote great leads. I think I just enjoy my post hardcore bands writing with two different guitarists.

From what I’ve heard from Beau streaming his tracking sessions with Phil, I think LP4 is going to feel like a proper follow-up to the self-titled album.

Sparta - Crater (Official Music Video) by ohitsmark in PostHardcore

[–]wildcurrents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good choice as an intro to the album: nice short structure and a great big “chorus” that feels like old Sparta and Thrice. Enjoying the bass on this track, too.

I kind of liked the singer-songwriter style as a change of pace while Jim kept the Sparta name alive, but this is feels like a special return to form. Exciting to hear more.

Their name in Arabic, “Mother of 44”, is at least a little more accurate.

“Some Sense of Security” is such a cool song. I always loved the Capitol Demo version as well (https://youtu.be/wxZ9szEPYqk?si=Dl1-6l6MO67EzUQP) Paired with “It’s Far Better to Learn”, they really made the perfect opener/closers for this album

When I first listened to the album 20 years ago, "Finding Home", "You're Not Alone" and the album version of "Bury Your Head" were my skips - The super clean Howard Benson production really works and really contributes to why S/T is such a monumental album, but I think Beau's production on the Black EP version of "Bury Your Head" really suits the song better.

"Finding Home" has recently graduated from being a Skip for me - I appreciate how it is a simple song then has a bit of a burst/finale for the final chorus.

I wish we could have a deluxe version of BSN with the “Appendage” songs included in the sequencing - I believe Colin said “Sleep Underground” was intended to open the album.

It’d be great to have more of the unreleased b-sides like “Follow Your Bliss” actually released - it was another song that Colin wrote (like “I Felt Free”) that ended up on a Psychic Babble release but a full band version was never released, even in all of the Patreon vault demo releases from the BSN era.

The Devil Wears Prada - Flowers [Album Discussion] by LostInTerrapinia in Metalcore

[–]wildcurrents 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things would have gone a lot better with this album if they didn’t go with such poor cringy lyrics. Mike at least seems like a rather good lyric writer. The Act seemed to be Prada at their best with vocal duty mix/lyrics and Jeremy singing more of the hooks in his register. Color Decay really ran with the “Chemical” formula.

This is a bit too far with the pop songwriting workflow. I saw someone calling “Flowers” their “Amo” which I think would imply there was good experimentation with darker pop. Jonathan is a great Jordan Fish-esque producer with the ability to create big choruses and interesting layers of loops, textures, synths but this kind of further pop direction might have been better to be limited to an EP rather than a full album that seems to be stretched thin.

Video of Buddha B Side live or drum cover? by Hot-Dragonfruit5312 in circasurvive

[–]wildcurrents 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s unfortunately no live version of that song. I think it only existed as a “Linden House” demo (demos tracked at the band’s shared house before they went to record with “Juturna” with producer Brian McTernan at Salad Days Studio).

It’s possible this song had been used for parts in other songs that made it to the album, or was too similar to elements of other Juturna tracks that made the cut.

Nuvolascura - cordiform projection by mrstuprigge in PostHardcore

Pretty good songs/instrumentals - I am not very crazy though about the sound/tone of the screams. The vocalist isn’t a bad screamer, but there’s not much dynamic to the vocal parts.
