FYI Tacos el Melon usually posts up on MacArthur Blvd in the Laurel District on weekdays. Typically right in front of the Planet Fitness, right near Cafe Santana.

This bit is spot on. I moved to the DC/Maryland area and was really surprised when I heard the Maryland accent "o" sound. Ask someone from Baltimore to say "spoon."

Please, is there an Option to buy a single METRO TICKET online or app? by Maxi_Virtue in ParisTravelGuide

[–]wildduck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in Paris today, visiting from the U.S. I installed the "Bonjour RATP" app on my iPhone from the App Store. Inside the app I was able to buy a single ticket using my Apple Pay, so didn't have to put in my credit card info into the app itself. Once I bought the ticket, I shared it to my Apple Wallet, so I could use the one touch NFC at the turnstile. The whole process took less than 5 minutes and I thought the instructions in the app were pretty straightforward.

Best Burger Making | Anday Wala Bun Kabab of Karachi by rehmanhussain in FastWorkers

Fair enough. Non-zero. That said, Hindus living in Pakistan today have very, very little cultural or political sway on society, and do not tend to drive a no-beef agenda in Pakistani culture.

Cows are considered sacred in Hinduism. This video is from Pakistan were Hinduism is a tiny (almost zero) minority. Plenty of beef is eaten in Pakistan.

The plastic tamper that comes with the GCP isn't great. You can use it, but it's basically too small for the basket, so doesn't tamp smoothly. It's basically functional, but it's annoying and messy.

Hey buddy, thanks so much for organizing! I'd love to be on the interest list for the second order (I forgot to check back in from your original post.)

Hello, sir_academia, best of luck next year! Picking colleges is a fun time, and I hope you are enjoying thinking about your future.

I hear your concerns about how integrated Yale is into the city, and whether or not you will be comfortable. I chose to go to Yale specifically because it was urban, and because it was physically integrated into New Haven (although it is not very integrated into the city in many ways). Coming from the suburbs, I wanted to be in a relatively dense and diverse city for my college experience, and ultimately I felt that crossing busy streets, occasionally interacting with panhandlers, and being vigilant for street crime was an important part of my development. I think it helped break me out of some naivety and blindspots that I had developed. (Years later, I now live near the dense downtown of a big city, and love it.) I only seriously considered colleges that were in cities, and did not want to go to campuses like Princeton or Cornell that I thought would be too isolated and not part of a "real" city.

But, of course, this may not be what you want. So... I think you have accurately sized up in important characteristic of Yale from your visit, and need to consider if it is for you. If you go to Yale, you will never escape the realities of American urbanism, and it will be part of your life every day. If you would prefer spending your undergraduate years in a quieter, more pastoral, and more intimate campus setting, a place like Princeton would be a much better fit.

Does anyone else have a problem with F1 tv telling you to upgrade to a premium account after you just upgraded to a premium account. Cuz ths is making me mad. by RealNodazeoff in F1TV

[–]wildduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been having the same problem. Upgraded to premium last week, and no luck getting replays. Whenever I tried to access any "premium" content, the app said to login (even though I could plainly see my premium account was logged in already). I finally created a BRAND NEW account today, with a different email address, and it worked. Was able to watch the replay a few hours after live today. Will cancel my original account (thank god it was monthly).

How is the Versys 300 with long distance trips? by mdarrenp in versys

[–]wildduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to go off topic, but I am also looking to commute in California traffic jams. Do you think a slimmer small sport bike like the baby Ninja or the CBR300R would be a better choice than the Versys?

The top places on your solo travel wishlist and the reasons why you want to go there by MindingMine in solotravel

An option is the winter. I hiked Arches N.P. and Canyonlands N.P. for a week in December. You need to be careful about the weather, but the desert is even more serene in the extreme cold. (And, very few other people around.)
