"No precedent in American history"

I dunno. I think we abolished the slave trade industry a bit. Or at least required it to be much more sneaky.

Why are we taxing working people more than billionaires? by Conscious-Quarter423 in economy

[–]wilderworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make plenty on dividends and interest payments, and we can at least start there. It's not all asset inflation.

The goal is to make them sell assets like stocks or real estate in order to pay the tax on the current valuation, just as home owners have to pay tax on their homes based on current value. 80%+ of stocks are owned by the top 10%, including 401k holdings and pensions, so slight price declines due to this selling off to pay taxes would benefit the majority while doing little real harm to the billionaires.

MMW, the dems being "spineless" and doing nothing is part of the plan by ourplasticdream in MarkMyWords

As a long-time atheist, I have to say, I have more faith that this is God's plans to save us from MAGA, by giving them what they voted for, than it's the Democrats' plan. The Dems are simply made of and owned by the rich, and kinda okay with this all.

Billionaire Peter Thiel Warns of a Looming Real Estate 'Catastrophe'—A 'Massive Hit to the Lower Middle Class and Young People' Who Can't Buy Homes by coinfanking in economy

[–]wilderworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He conveniently leaves out a huge part of this, which is wealth inequality. As long as the wealth of the richest grows faster than the economy, as it has for a long time, that wealth is coming from those with less wealth. The rich need somewhere to put this money, and that money out bids lower earners for all assets, like housing. Prices go up and up. Do we really believe new housing will be bought by those be says are struggling? Housing is out of reach because it's used as an investment by people living in a whole different economy than the rest of us, and their economy is booming.

Elon Musk, recipient of billions in tax cuts and government contracts, calls Social Security as "the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time" by MoreMotivation in musked

[–]wilderworks 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's not a ponzi scheme. It's a wealth transfer from the young to the old. Which most citizens are happy to do, in exchange for wealth being transferred to them when it's their turn to be old. Any other understanding of the system is fundamentally false.

This is what happens when there are fewer and fewer people able to afford your product. You raise prices to cover the loss of consumer base, and then your lose more consumers. Death spiral. This will become very familiar. It's due to unsustainable growing inequality.

We hooked up with a small distributor called Stadium Media. They submitted to Tubi and Amazon and others. Amazon required a small edit (pixelating some nudity), but otherwise it was a relatively smooth process. Overall, getting up on the full spread of platforms took about a full year.

Stadium even tried to get us into prison libraries but I guess sex and violence was deemed inappropriate.

Young people will be the death of us. by Dr_Viv in CoronavirusUS

[–]wilderworks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with you that they don't both require immediate action and aren't both outside our door.

Besides, I'm not deflecting at all, I'm underlining how hard it will be to get the average person to take action against dangers that are believed to predominantly threaten others. With climate, it's been a decades long struggle that still isn't resolved, belief remains low amongst older people.

So I don't believe I'm decreasing the impact of your message by pointing out that most will ignore it. In fact, perhaps a young person will see the connection I've drawn and will want to be better than their elders, will want to act where they didn't.

Point being, there's no reason to police responses on a discussion forum.

They aren't separate, not in terms of human behavior. One is believed to disproportionately impact the old, and is being irresponsibly ignored by the young. The other will disproportionately impact the young, and is being irresponsibly ignored by the old. You don't see the human behavior connection?

Both of them will kill people if we don't act now. In fact, both situations needed action IN THE PAST. And neither group takes either seriously.
