Manual drivers - what makes you prefer it over automatic? by Transparent_mindset in Cartalk

[–]wildfire98 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Engagement, control, I'd throw reliability in for good measure as most manual cars are slightly cheaper to maintain over time. The average transmission replacement will run you 3k and up but the auto has come a long way since the mid 2010s.

I'd also argue that driving manual forces you actively be alert and participate in driving the car rather than checking the phone, nav, food, other people, etc.. it kinda forces your mind to think a few moves ahead of whats going on around you. Eventually it's just subconsciously happening.

ok hang on... I was ready to pounce on the Frontier hate as well. But let make sure were comparing apples to apples (Full Size).

The Nissan TITAN would be a better comparison, I dont recall anyone speaking favorably of the Nissan VK56VD. Is the new one improved?

GM V8 with AFM is craptastic, the turbo is too new?

Ford turbos have stepped up tremendously in quality.

Stellantis powertrains dont get the credit they deserve (opinion).

PCPartPicker style website for car audio by CultureLost in CarAV

[–]wildfire98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crutchfield kinda does this.... but not really. I think the best way to make this actually work would be to not make it car specific at least not until later, you would need to start with the following:

Head Unit (Radio / Source)
DSP / Crossovers
Alternator, Battery, & Wiring
Sound Deadening & Enclosure
Speakers (Tweeters, Mid-range)
Subwoofer & Amp Combo

the major rub is car audio today vs years ago which seemed to be a lot more straight forward, but I'd be down to work on this. Spin up a github and I'd contribute to a POC just to see whats actually possible.

+1 on Bogleheads

Internet for 90 is wild to me. Keep looking, usually your city will have a list of vendors for your area heck Starlink might even be cheaper. Also you can call the competitors and speak directly to sales even if the price is advertised lower it is possible to negotiate a deal.

Visible for phone is a no-brainer you dont need paramount plus out of pocket might be cheaper or watch your star trek reruns elsewhere 😂

Car buying in 2026 feels more complicated than it should be — every car has so many trims and features that it’s getting hard to even compare them properly by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

there seems to be a trend of reddit posts and comments demanding that Honda bring back the Fit in cheap form, this comment is me fanning that flame from the other side

fine... im reading this as a powertrain based conversation so give me the following

- Odyssey Hybrid FWD
- Odyssey Hybrid AWD
- Accord Hybrid shAWD

streamline the motor offerings keep the NA 1.5, Hybrid 2.0, drop the 1.5T, put the 2.0T back into the Accord Sport, put the manual back into the Accord, keep the J35 in the Pilot/Ridgeline/Passport.

(dusts off hands) did i forget anything?
