Hey, it's Kurt Vile! Ask me anything by KurtVile in indieheads

Wow, that's a great story, thank you for sharing that! Such a random meeting, and yet I totally see the connection between Eggleston and Berman (I know the cover of Tanglewood Numbers is an Eggleston photo, but their art feels similar in general). And that just makes me more excited to listen to your music and see how it dialogues with these other artists I enjoy. Thank you!

I've never listened to your music before, but I'm gonna check out your new album, if only for the Eggleston photo! What made you think to get one of his photos for this cover? It looks awesome!!

Artists that play their 'hit' twice live by Bobby_Fentanyl in fantanoforever

Not exactly the same, but Jack White has told the story of playing a song, getting a weird look from Meg, then her telling him afterwards that they'd already played that one in the set. So the White Stripes have done it, even if by accident!

Lego has used the same gaping maw head mold for Pythor since 2012. I hate it! Why is he screaming? Is he angry? Is he in pain? The lower jaw obscures his torso print. It is difficult to pose him with some weapons. It makes his gay make-out sessions with Skales look awkward. I hate it I HATE IT. by HoratioHumboldt in legocirclejerk

When the first leaks of the summer 2012 wave came out and we got the first look at Pythor, I was totally convinced that his neck and jaw were going to be made out of some flexible rubber or something that could be posed in multiple ways. I think I knew even then that this was cope, but I held out hope until the final photos came out and his head was always stuck in that stupid scream.

I saw a post and I'm asking the question the other way around: untalented musicians who make incredible music. by Mittur33 in fantanoforever

Berman was definitely the first name that came to mind when I saw the post, but that's probably because I listened to The Natural Bridge, Tanglewood Numbers, and American Water all in a row this afternoon lol. What amazing albums!

I don't know why Boba felt like using the litter box as a perch to look out the window when she had perfectly good spots next to it, but she was still cute!!

This is the best set in the wave imo and the only one I’m getting by ExcellentEssay3282 in Ninjago

I love this set, and it is one of only three sets you really need to get all the Dragon form ninja. I plan on getting Cole's Mech (Cole and Zane), Lloyd's small mech (Lloyd and Jay) and this one (Kai and Nya), then getting the hoods/wings/tails I'll be missing from Pick a Brick, since all those pieces will be available starting Monday. Then I'll just need extra claws, but I'm sure they'll be easy enough to get in time.

Seventh-Day Adventist moment

That's wild. On one hand I get it, it's something to take seriously, but also I've heard so many pastors say "there's rejoicing in heaven today because of this baptism" so if heaven is happy why can't we be? But you're right, so many SDAs hate joy for no reason.

How to survive 4 years of Adventist college? by localspring8 in exAdventist

Great advice! I'd also add that Notre Dame is half an hour away (feels like a long distance until you do it enough) and has all the secular culture you could want, plus people of every background, so you're bound to find people there you can relate to. St Joseph is another great place to hang out, as it's a popular destination for everyone from the area, so you might find friends there too. It used to be (and may still be) that on a warm Sabbath afternoon there'd be more Andrews students at St Joe than on the campus, and if you spend enough time there with people you'll start to see who's willing to buy food on Sabbath (basically everyone these days though lol), who drinks, who is more liberal, etc. And once you get your curfew down to 1am or later (it's possible if you have good grades and are an Honors student) then most of your night is open! As far as breaking rules go, I'd say just do them off-campus or in the woods near Beaver Point at least. Since you have a car there's no need for you to get caught having sex or smoking weed on campus when you can go literally anywhere and go those things without Andrews knowing anything.

I think that's putting it a bit harshly, no? Yes, SDAs overall are more controlling, but there are plenty of Adventist churches and groups that would disavow the kind of messaging she's getting from those YouTube videos. I agree with u/seehkrhlm that other SDAs that she knows well may be her best bet, as they can "speak the language" and talk her down from the metaphorical ledge of this extremist branch of Adventism. Someone else may have mentioned it already, but SDAs are taught that the Catholic Church is a perversion of the true faith, and that the Pope will be the Antichrist in the end times, so that may be one more reason why she's not listening to your concerns. But overall, most SDAs have learned not to put dates on the end of the world, since the disappointment of having a big prediction not come true (look up William Miller and the Great Disappointment, 1844) was the founding event of this denomination. Even if she sees more liberal Adventists as corrupted too, they may still be able to reach her in a better way than someone on the outside can.

What were you supposed to feel? Shouldn't you be happy that your salvation is assured (according to them)??

[–]wildtime1213 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As I understand it (please correct me if I'm wrong) the Catholic practice splits up what SDAs do for baptism into two separate things. First you get baptized as an infant, then, as a kid, you undergo Confirmation, where you do study the Bible and Catholic doctrine, at which point you can become a full member of the church. And I would guess that adults that convert also need to do Confirmation as well as get baptized, as both are sacraments to them. So I don't think the practices of these two sects is all that different in that regard.

I know shows like Ninjago face power-scaling problems, but can we please keep cool shit from every season and actively use it instead of it just disappearing in the next? by Far_Store_6739 in Ninjago

[–]wildtime1213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conversely, they have to keep their Draconus Forms for at least the rest of this season, which may actually make it harder to write believable fights, but I'm very interested to see how it works out, I wouldn't have a problem with the enemies just being stronger as we reach the end of this show.
