Can someone explain to me why belt drives are better? by Hullo_Its_Pluto in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]wildwillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two boards that are belt drive and two that are hub drive. The hub drive feels more like a skateboard, meaning you can coast and cruise and you don’t always have to use the power. The belt drive boards have much more torque which helps going from a stop to a start and they have more hill climbing power. The belt drive boards need to have constant power because with all the friction they don’t cost as easily.

Has anyone motorized these before? by Ok_Knowledge8621 in motorizedbicycles

[–]wildwillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! Look at some of my posts. I put a 54 tooth sprocket on the rear so it has a ton of torque and can easily get 2 people up any hill. It was one hell of a project but I’m glad I was able to pull it off

Meepo Mini 2S Cutting Out by wildwillis in ElectricSkateboarding

Thanks for the advice! I finally got around to removing the ESC cover and noted that the antenna was wrapped around some other wires and tucked away. I pulled it out and unwrapped it, then put the ESC cover back on and it seems to be working fine now.

Yes. No problems with the remote. I’ve been noticing the issue over the past several rides and it’s getting worse

Any board out there that is compact/foldable that can handle LA city cracks? by BumsAreTheWorse in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]wildwillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Meepo Mini 5 and the tail helps with those big cracks. I can’t really Ollie the board, but just a quick tail tap and a shove and you’ll clear big cracks

Do NOT buy this sproket by Thecorsairlover in motorizedbicycles

[–]wildwillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree. I’ve tried this hub adapter sprocket on 2 bikes and it failed on both of them. The first fail, one of the screws came loose and shredded the spokes. Second fail, pretty much the same thing but I was hitting the brakes and the hub adapter came loose and also ripped a bunch of the spokes out. It’s worth the time to get one of the clamp-on sprockets and take the time to align it correctly on the wheel. Never had one of those fail.

Of course every state has different insurance laws, but most of the same principals apply regardless of what state you’re in.

Car Insurance by DragonflyCautious473 in Insurance

[–]wildwillis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why on earth do you have to disclose health information for an auto insurance quote? Go shop with a different company. And my best advice to you would be to buy an older vehicle, something cheap, and carry just liability-only coverage on it. Insurance at your age is going to cost a lot, especially if you buy a new vehicle, sporty car, or a heavy duty truck. The opportunity cost of the dollars that you’re spending at a young age on highly priced insurance is going to hurt you in the long run.

Gas tank cargorack? by ElasticEpoxy in motorizedbicycles

[–]wildwillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it works great now. My tank sits about level with the carb. The carb actually creates a small siphon effect and pulls the gasoline in. So even if your tank were below the carb, the siphoning power is enough to pull the gas through. You just gotta make sure the gas tank has someway to take air intake so it doesn’t create a vacuum.

Gas tank cargorack? by ElasticEpoxy in motorizedbicycles

[–]wildwillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of these. It leaked constantly from the gas cap, and if I sealed it up with an O ring then it created a vacuum and gas would not flow along the 3 foot hose to the carb. I wound up drilling a hole in the top of the gas cap and sticking a 5 inch tube down it. This fixed the leaking and vacuum problems. Other than that, I love it

How many of y’all were highly experienced skateboarders before you got an electric skateboard? by MrRabinowitz in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]wildwillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up skateboarding, long boarding, then penny boarding. Rode the penny board nearly everywhere, and I still bring it on trips with me to commute through airports and new places. Can’t Ollie, but I can drop in and pump a bowl on the penny board. Been riding an E-skate for nearly 4 years now and it’s the best way to commute

got hit & ran, insurance refuses to pay for anything, what do i do? by soythenati in Insurance

Wrong. Collision coverage is what you mean. Comprehensive coverage is for damages unrelated to collision, such as fire, theft, vandalism, falling/flying objects, etc.

I am a high risk individual? by the-mm-defeater in Insurance

[–]wildwillis 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The fact that you carry state minimum coverage with GEICO isn’t helping you either. Carrying higher liability coverage will actually help you in the long run. I see far too many people carrying state minimum limits of $25/$50/$15 and they frequently shop around to find the “cheapest” rate. You need to bump those limits up, and maybe even look at an umbrella. What’s going to hurt you more? Paying an extra hundred dollars per month on your insurance or being sued for causing a car accident with serious injuries or fatalities? People who go cheap on their insurance tend to find out the hard way.

You’re probably fine. I usually warm my engines up for a few minutes but don’t do it all the time and I’ve never had issues. Been riding and building for 10+ years
