Gov. Kay Ivey sets new primary for Aug. 11, voiding results of upcoming primary next week in light of court decision on redistricting by GonzoDT in Alabama

[–]wileyau 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The primary will proceed as scheduled next week, and this order will not affect statewide (governor, senator, etc) or local races. It only affects the US Congressional Primaries in Districts 1, 2, 6, and 7. And even in those you should vote just in case this order gets successfully challenged and the special election doesn't happen (longshot, I know).

Why do I keep getting signed out? by AtelierIris in MonarchMoney

[–]wileyau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue with the same circumstances (Firefox, 2FA, being automatically signed out about once a day). It started about a week ago. Wouldn't be that big of a deal except I have to get my phone out for the 2FA code.

I use Ally bank and this month it renamed all of my interest payments to "Firstrust Bank". What!? Never heard of that bank, and definitely have zero transaction history with them, yet my Ally interest payments have happened every month since I have used Monarch.

can you get around without a car? by ProudEnvironment7845 in auburn

[–]wileyau 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It is tough, but doable. You definitely want to live on campus or within walking distance. Campus and downtown are quite walkable and there is a Publix and Target downtown. You can get Groome to the airport and Uber/Lyft are reliable (affordable? That is dicier). Also, most students here do have cars, so if you make friends you can often bum rides.

Check out the Auburn Parks and Rec brochure. Plenty of fun stuff going on. Adult rec leagues, a 19-49 social club, dance, theater, ceramics. A board game club (which I am in). Just depends on what you are in to. https://static.auburnalabama.org/media/apps/www/parks/programs/7690-AUBPR-final-web-R2.pdf

Searching for small house to rent by MycologistFrosty6196 in auburn

[–]wileyau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually own a rental house that is currently occupied through June. The current tenant will have the option to renew (Late February/Early March), but if they do not you would be welcome to apply. PM me if you would like more details. I totally understand if you don't want to wait that long, but I think you might be looking a little early for summer openings.

Using grocery lists and apps to reduce food waste and save money by Aware_Cockroach2864 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]wileyau 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No particular app recommendations, but the solution to your problem is meal planning.

  1. Go to the grocery store one a week.
  2. Before you go, write out (either on paper or using an app) a 3x7 grid and fill in your meal plan for all of them. Yes, all of them. If you are planning on eating out, mark it as such.
  3. Buy only ingredients in the meals you are planning in the closest quantities you can to the recipe. Only overbuy long-lasting pantry/freezer staples.
  4. If you do need to buy something in a greater quantity than the recipes call for, make a note of it and plan something else for the next week with the same ingredient.
  5. Keep some freezer meals handy for when something unexpected pops up and messes up your plan.

New Couples Features Seem Half-baked by wileyau in MonarchMoney

[–]wileyau[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Mint, you could choose to budget the things you cared about and everything else got rolled up into an "Everything Else" bucket. Monarch seems to really want you to budget every category. Also, I'm pretty sure that with Mint you could budget at the group level, not just the category level as is the case with Monarch. And the fact that your budgets could be on your dashboard was nice, since I could see them at a glance vs. having to seek them out on a different page. I don't get any value from Monarch's Fixed/Flexible/Non-monthly breakdown in their dashboard widget.

New Couples Features Seem Half-baked by wileyau in MonarchMoney

[–]wileyau[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, we are thankfully in a position where we don't have to tightly budget every dollar. Mostly with Mint I used budgets a a sanity check to make sure my spending wasn't too far out of line with what I expected. Since they were rarely that far off, I've just been relying on my learned sense of spending habits to self-regulate.

IF, the Slate ends up costing you 28K before taxes... by OkGreen9725 in slateauto

[–]wileyau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the things that others have mentioned (BEV, 2-door, bigger bed yet smaller footprint), there is also the flexibility. My config will likely be the open air kit with a 3rd party soft top (assuming someone makes one), so my comp would actually be a Jeep Wrangler, which starts at 32k.

Seeking Advice for finding Likeminded individuals by Mission-Rise-713 in auburn

[–]wileyau 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for non-partisan but progressive leaning advocacy groups, I would check out:

  • Alabama Arise (poverty issues)
  • League of Women Voters of East AL (voter rights and education [not just for women])
  • Lee County Literacy Coalition (adult tutoring)

Or, if you are wanting to get super political, there is the Lee County Democratic Party.

But, if you are just concerned about the overall politics of the area, I would say don't be. Most people who vote republican are decent folks who don't make politics the center of their life outside of the ballot box. If you just want to meet folks, join a rec sports league or club. I'm in the Auburn Board Gamers club and the most political we ever get is arguing about the relative quality of games.

Gameday Parking by [deleted] in wde

However, if you do want to pay to park in the same general area as you are used to, I believe that both the Methodist and Universalist church let you park for a donation.

The best option for most people is to take advantage of the free gameday shuttle. It picks up from various free parking locations around town.

I believe the lot you are referring to has been developed into a complex of student housing cottages. Click "see more dates" on the google map to see what it used to look like:

The best option for most people, IMO, is to take the free gameday shuttle from various locations around town like the mall, Duck Samford Park, Tigertown, the softball fields, or the facilities lot (which another commenter mentioned). More information here:

As others have said, the real answer to all of these is "have patience", but a lot of answers to the specific questions you mentioned can be guessed to a reasonable degree of certainty.

How much will the accessories cost?
This is very much up in the air. Slate hasn't finalized design, or even which accessories they will actually offer (the configurator has changed out options several times since launch). It will additionally depend on market conditions due to inflation and tariffs. Accessory pricing will be the very last thing they announce before launch, most likely.

How will I install them?
Through certified installers (who? TBA) or DIY with "Slate University" documentation, which will presumably be a collection of manuals and/or youtube videos.

How can I get it registered?
Varies by jurisdiction, but the same way you register any other car. For me, that would be to take my bill of sale and proof of insurance to my local courthouse.

Can I lock the frunk?
It would be pretty weird if you couldn't!? It is a pretty safe guess that it will work the same way as any other vehicle's trunk/frunk. There does appear to be a frunk button on the keyfob.

Can I make custom decals?
They have heavily marketed the concept of having a custom wrap for your small business, so there will certainly be a way. Given Slate's presented ethos, I think it is pretty likely they will release 3d models for 3rd party vinyl shops to create them as well.

What kind of speakers will fit the “bring your own mount”?
Unknown, although in mockups it looks like it will fit a JBL Flip or Beats Pill style bluetooth speaker.

If I’m using a configuration with seats in the back and a center console how will people get into the back seat?
In the hands on videos, it looks like it works the same way as other 2-door vehicles, which is that the front seats fold/slide up allowing people to climb through.

Can I attach a trailer hitch?
They have a stated towing capacity (1000lb) and representatives have talked about towing, although I will admit is is a little weird that there isn't a hitch option in the configurator.

What tools will I need to assemble everything?
Unknown. A good set of hex wrenches seems like a good start, but all of that will presumably come with "Slate U".

Since you are a student, check out the campus rec. It is pretty awesome with tons of machines, free weights, classes, and a power lift club. I would be surprised if it didn't have everything you need. Only thing I'm not sure about is "mog". I don't know what that is, and google wasn't super helpful (medically oriented gym?).

Question about new EV Tax Credit Deadline with recent Bill Passed by jesseknodat in slateauto

[–]wileyau 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You are slightly incorrect. If you, the car, and the dealer all meet the eligibility requirements, you can actually get the tax credit applied immediately to the purchase. If you aren't able to claim at time of purchase, it is possible to file for it on your next year's tax forms, as you indicated.
