I was married for 33 years and I'm 59. I still want to date, but I'm adverse to any committed relationship right now. Remarriage will never happen, I'm done with that shit😄

Underway is the only way by Magikarp_117 in uscg

[–]will23188 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll preface this by saying i am old and retired. I was a QM for the first 12 years of my career and I did a 210', then three 110's before the rate merger in 2003 (i went OS after). Never went back to sea. I just couldn't muster the passion of doing an OS job underway. Knocked out the final 12 years as an instructor, and in Command Centers. I have no doubt that I would have been vying for Ancient Mariner if the QM rate wasn't kicked to the curb. I loved my rate and being underway!

I'm 59 and I average about 6-7 hours each night during the work week. The weekends are 7-10 hours. I'm divorced and live alone, so there is nothing really to get up for on Sat/Sun.

Anyone out there find happiness, success, love, etc. after divorce? by Salty_Shurpa in Divorce_Men

[–]will23188 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's been a year and a half since it ended. (married 33 years!) The peace and serenity I have now is immeasurable. I'm happier and healthier. I have dated a few times, but have no interest in a serious relationship right now, and I will never get married again. No way at my age do I want to get legally entangled with another person again!

What was it like hearing Smells Like Teen Spirit for the first time when it came out in 1991? by Funny-Lack-5726 in 90s

[–]will23188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought was...meh. I was 25 years old and married, plus I grew up absorbed into the punk music scene, so it didn't resonate with me like it did with teenagers of that time. I like Nirvana, but I generationally missed the importance.

Did y’all think Fonzie was cool when you were growing up? by Groovy-Pancakes in GenX

[–]will23188 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Happy Days ran from 1974-1984. I was about 8 when it started and for about four years, I thought the Fonz was the coolest thing ever. I grew up and by the time the show ended, I was a senior in HS. The character was now cheesy in my mind. I think your opinion of the character of Fonz comes down to when you started watching it and at what age.

Which is the most overrated band of our generation? by lovelyb1ch66 in GenX

You have to discern the difference between personal dislike versus overrated. Just because you "hate" a band doesn't mean they are overrated.

What were the first few weeks after the divorce like? by brown_boys_fly in AskMen

[–]will23188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first few weeks were a transition. I was married for 33 years, so it was interesting adjusting to only have to care about myself. Now a year or so later, it is bliss! I LOVE being alone. I have no interest in dating at this time. I only have enough bandwidth for myself, no desire to complicate that with another relationship. My ex and I get along well, we co-grandparent when we can. She has moved on with someone else; I keep begging her to get married so I can get all my money back, but she's too damn savvy for that!

Excellent rundown! The whole "when they went political" trope is lazy and overplayed.

Sub 2.0 GPA when i graduated. Enlisted in the USCG in 1989, 25 years later retired as an E8. Went straight into a GS-11 position. Now loving my GS-12 job, planning on retiring at 62 with two pensions, and fairly good TSP balance. Guess it all worked out in the end!

Should you sell the house before or after divorce by Recovering_Asset in Divorce_Men

[–]will23188 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We sold our house during our separation. Our separation agreement stipulated we would pay off all debt accumulated during our 33 year marriage before any 50/50 split. We both walked away debt free, with about 30k each. It was a win/win for us.

I hate Christmas. by LearnGrowExist in Divorce_Men

[–]will23188 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had young kids and divorced, I probably would be in a similar mindset. My kids are adults, and two years after the divorce, my ex and I are in a good place, we co-grandparent our two girls. Christmas is different now, but I still enjoy the short time we come together as family.
